The time schedule Participants and countries Level brackets The Raffle Public Transport Bike-‐ and walking tour Meeting of representatives European countries The situation These last weeks were very hectic. We had a lot of unexpected surprises like people that can’t come because of injuries, family matters or because they had forgotten that they filled in a registration form some months ago! Let’s hope that everybody who is on the list now can and will come to Amsterdam! Due to these cancellations, we have still some spots available. But…. deadline for registration is the 5th of May! The best pickleballplayers of Europe, Asia and the USA We’re so proud that 140 pickleballplayers from 12 different countries will come to our tournament in Amsterdam. This will be the most international pickleball tournament ever! We have people from: Belgium Czech Republic England Finland France India Netherlands Scotland Spain Ukraine USA Wales It would be nice if one person of each country can bring their flag! We’re more than happy with 5 US Open medal winners coming to Amsterdam. They’ll tell us their secrets! Our youngest participant is 16 years and the oldest is 84! And because it’s a skill level event, they may play against each other. You can find a list of all participants at the end of this newsletter. Raffle for the Dutch Pickleball Association April 24th the foundation of the Dutch Pickleball Association took place. We’re very proud that we can work on the growth of pickleball on a national level now. We also became a member of the international Federation of Pickleball. The next thing we need as association is equipment and money. And that’s why we’ll organize a raffle. Starting Friday night you can buy lottery tickets. On Saturday night the raffle draw will be and all the lottery winners will be announced. You can help us in three ways: 1. bring gifts for the lottery 2. bring equipment for the Dutch Pickleball Association 3. buy lottery tickets Brackets We have 3 categories: women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. And we’ll play at three different levels: 4.0 and up, 3.5 and 2.0-‐3.0. So all couples with at least one 4.0 and up player, will compete in the top group. You’ll play in a Round Robin system and after that semi-‐finals, finals and a losers round or another Round Robin (depending on the amount of people). We assure you that you’ll play 5 games at least. The round robin games will be played 1 game till 15. The finals and probably also semi-‐finals will be a full game (2 out of 3 games till 11) Because most European pickleballplayers do not know their ranking, all couples with 3.5 and below will start in one group. They will play some games in a round robin system and the results rank the couples in the advanced or the starters pool. There you’ll play more Round Robin and after that for the medals. There’ll be a trophy for the 1st place and a silver and bronze medal for the 2nd and 3rd place. We’ll do our best to give you the best tournament experience possible. And although we aren’t professionals, our goal is to take care of a smooth organization and give you all the opportunity to play pickleball at your level, meet old friends, making new ones and have fun! Sunday morning, May 29th, we have our first European meeting in Sporthal de Pijp. David Conover from Pickleball Ukraine is the initiator of this meeting and we’ll hope that every European country where pickleball is played can be represented in this meeting. We start at 8.30 and finish at 9.45. The competition committee will take care that the representatives won’t play before 10 am.
