Skill Level: Moderate Hip Beaded “Granny Square” Scarf Made with Clover’s Soft Touch Steel Crochet Hooks Supplies Clover Steel Crochet Hook No. 0/1.75mm Art No. 1020 3 balls DMC Perle Cotton # 8, 1 Clover Gold Eye Tapestry Needle Art No. 238 Beads, Embroidery Stitching Tool Needle Threader Art # 8810 Beadwork Preparation: Before crochet can begin the beads must be threaded onto the Perle Cotton. Using the needle threader scoop the beads onto the threader by gently pushing the threader into the beads. This gentle motion will force beads onto the threader. Place Perle Cotton in threader and slide beads onto thread. Repeat this process until your beads are all threaded onto the Perle Cotton. Granny Square Instruction Round 1: chain 6 , join to form ring Round 2: chain 3 (counts as a dc in this and all following rnds), 2 dc in ring; (ch 2, 3 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 2; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. Beadwork begins with rnd 3. Beads are added as follows: Double crochet – wrap thread around hook, insert hook into stitch, yarn over the hook, draw yarn through, which leaves 3 stitches on the hook. Slide a bead up close to the three loops, yarn over the hook, draw yarn through two stitches ( which holds the bead in place), yarn over the hook, draw yarn through remaining two stitches. Round 3: slip stitch in each dc to ch-2 sp; ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch2, 3dc): corner made; * ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-2 sp work ( 3 dc, ch2, 3dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3: slip st in each dc to ch-2 sp.
