2016 SICO NEW TALENT EXCELLENCE AWARD GRAND PRIZES
Among the finalists present during the grand finale in Montreal, one grand prize winner will be
chosen in each of the categories: interior decorating graduates and interior design graduates
(two grand prize winners in total).

An independent jury will select the grand prize winners on the basis of the project entries,
as well as a five-minute oral presentation (in French or English).
The jury will make their choices based on the following evaluation criteria:
• The creation of a project in which colour is a key element
• The appropriate use of Sico paint
• The artistic aspect of both the concept and the materials
• Creativity and innovation
• Quality of the oral presentation
Please note that the finalists are not allowed to count on the help of their teachers or colleagues
during their presentation.
A. STUDENT GRAND PRIZES

All submissions must contain the following:
Four elements, mounted on a 16 in. x 22 in. display panel for presentation during the grand finale in
Montreal (visual display must not extend beyond the edge of the panel):
• Project description in point form (4 to 6 points)
• Project layout (by hand or using computer)

PRESENTATION OF FINALISTS’ PROJECTS
During the grand finale in Montreal, Sico will allot a space to each school for their student’s
resentation, which is to include the four 16 in. x 22 in. panels.
Participating schools must install their material on Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 2016, to be ready
for the show’s opening on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. An installation schedule will be provided by
Sico to the finalists. Participating schools must pick up their material following the closing of the show
on Thursday, May 26 (after 8 p.m.).
The two student grand prize winners will each enjoy exposure on Index-Design’s website (September
2016), as well as an additional $1,000 bursary and four gallons of Sico paint. The aim of this last prize is to
encourage winners to use their talent to add COLOUR to their lives and the lives of those around them.
B. SCHOOL GRAND PRIZES
The student grand prize winners make their schools winners too, because each of the two schools
wins a grand prize consisting of $500 plus 20 gallons of Sico paint. These prizes are designed to
encourage each institution to develop, with the help of their design students, a “community” project
aimed at revitalizing a space or creating a special activity that adds COLOUR to the lives of design
students or others in the community.
The announcement of the grand prize winners and the awards presentation ceremony will take place in
Montreal on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m. An official announcement will also be done
during Index-Design’s Product Guide launch event at approximately 7 p.m.
MENTORING ACTIVITY
Following the students’ presentation, our finalists will get the chance to meet industry professionals
in a speed dating concept. During this activity, industry professionals will offer mentoring through
advice, as well as talk about the industry and possible career openings. This activity will take place on
Thursday, May 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
