We believe that lasting personal and social change
can only come about when we all work together to
invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
That’s why strengthening community is our cause.
Every day we work side by side with our neighbors
in 10,000 communities to ensure that everyone,
regardless of age, income or background has the
opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
When you join the Y you’re coming together with
men, women and children from your community who
are committed to youth development, healthy living
and social responsibility.
We know firsthand how difficult it can be to find
balance in life. That’s why we’re here with you every
day, making sure that you, your family and your
community have the resources and support needed to
learn, grow and thrive.
We do that by encouraging good health and fostering
connections with new and old friends through sports,
fun and shared interests.
The Y offers programs, services and initiatives
focused on youth development, healthy living and
social responsibility, according to the unique needs of
the communities it engages.
The Y is accessible to all people. Financial assistance
is offered to individuals and families who cannot
afford a membership.

Developmental Disabilities Swim Lessons
Whiting Family YMCA offers a special swim program that is designed to provide an educational and therapeutic environment
for children with special needs. The aquatic environment is excellent because water exercise has these benefits: Improves
flexibility, coordination and range of motion; strengthens and tones the muscles without hurting vulnerable joints; longer
exercise time because the body is working with buoyancy, not gravity as on land; increases the child's self-esteem because
he/she is able to forget about his/her limitations while learning new behaviors, skills and learning strategies in an environment that promotes success mixed with fun and play.
