MICROZEST 25 Gardenia Blue MICROZEST 25 Gardenia Blue Plant pigment for cosmetics Blue colour MICROZEST 25 Gardenia Blue Microzest 25 Gardenia Blue is one of the additions to the Lessonia’s pallet of natural pigments made out of micronised plants. This natural pigment is extracted from the fruit of the Gardenia. Its blue colour is due to a natural compound found in the fruits. To increase the colouring power of the natural plant pigments, Lessonia uses a micronising technology based on a very high speed airflow. This technology works at cool temperature, does not heat the organic molecules and keep them in their original shape and structure. Its extremely fine particles size enables a dispersion or solubilisation in numerous formulations, bringing a deep and intense natural blue colour to the product. Gardenia flow er GARDENIA : THE PLANT Gardenia florida L. (or G.jasminoides Ellis) is known as Cape Jasmine. It is a perennial plant originated from Asia and belonging to the Rubiaceae family. It is a fragrant flowering evergreen tropical plant which is commonly grown in Vietnam, Southern China, Taiwan and Japan. Evidence of Gardenia jasminoides in cultivation in China dates to the Song Dinasty (960-1279 AD), where both wild and double-flowered forms have been depicted in paintings Meanwhile, was first propagated in England in August 1757 and sold well thereafter. BENEFITS Gardenias are widely used as exotic ornamental flowers in corsages, as houseplants, and in some regions, as outdoor plants. A yellow silk dye has been made for centuries from the chemical compound acrocetin extracted from the gardenia berry. The blue pigments are edible and are currently being used as a blue food colorant in East Asia. Chinese herbal medicine, however, makes the most extensive use of the gardenia. Its Chinese name is zhi zi. Numerous traditional medicinal actions have been attributed to gardenia. Gardenia fruits MICROZEST 25 Gardenia Blue GENEPIN MOLECULAR STRUCTURE The blue colour of the pigment extracted from the fruit of the gardenia is due to genipin, an aglycone discovered in 1960 which turns blue when combined with amino acids. Molecular formula : C11H14O5. Genepin m olecule COLOURING ACTION Lessonia micronises products to less than 25 microns thanks to an exlusive micronisation technology. It produces superfine materials by autogenous comminution. The centrifugal movement of particles in the chamber provides effective classification to control the homogeneity of the particles size. Thanks to its very fine particles, Microzest 25 Gardenia Blue has numerous applications in cosmetics products including loose and press powders, oily gels, emulsion and water-based gels. Microzest 25 Gardenia Blue is designed to present maximum stability. However, unlike synthetic dyes, they are made up of a complex group of natural molecules which may react differently according to the ingredients used in the finished products, the pH and the conditions for use (light, temperature,etc.).
