TROUBLESHOOTING BEFORE CALLING SERVICE Many apparent malfunctions are caused by slight misadjustments of the regular controls or some other equally simple cause. If any difficulty arises in the operation of your set, first check through this list of symptoms & corrections. Should the difficulty persist, unplug the set & contact your dealer or nearest ONIDA Service Centre. Lines or streaks in Picture Colour patch Symptoms Is the power cord plug disconnected? Is the main power button switched off? Is your antenna disconnected ? Is volume level on Zero? Check sound system Are the colour & brightness controls adjusted correctly? Could there be an interference from any electrical equipment, high tension wire, automobiles, etc. ? Could the direct signals from a TV broadcast station be affected by signals reflected from mountains or buildings etc.? Is the antenna wire cut or disconnected? Is your antenna turned in the wrong direction ? Is the antenna damaged? Are the batteries exhausted? Are the batteries placed in proper polarity ? Is there any obstacle between remote & sensor ? Could there be any interference from a Personal Computer, TV, Video Recorder, etc. Could there be external magnetic field in the vicinity of your TV, OR Earth’s magnetic field may have an effect on your television. 2. PRE-INSTALLATION 1. CONNECTING THE AERIAL / CABLE AND EXTERNAL DEVICE ANTENNA (300 OHMS) Corrections Insert the plug in an AC outlet. Then press the main power button ON. Check the antenna connections. Increase the volume. Select correct sound system. Adjust the colour & brightness controls. TO AV INPUT TERMINALS OF THE VCR/VCP/VCD/DVD FROM AV INPUT TERMINALS OF THE VCR/VCP/VCD/DVD Replace the antenna cables with a co-axial cable, which is less prone to interference. Move antenna away from the source of interference. Move antenna to a different position, height or direction. Replace with an antenna having good directivity. BALUN OUTPUT (S) INPUT VIDEO L/MONO R (AUDIO) REAR AV PANEL Fig. 2.1 Check antenna connection. Direct the antenna properly. Replace or repair the antenna. Replace the batteries. Reinstall the batteries correctly. Remove the obstacle. Move the device away until the interference is eliminated, change antenna position. Switch off TV by the main power button. Wait for 30 minutes before switching it on again. If the patch still appears consult the service centre. Place your TV on a flat surface, with atleast half a foot separating it from the nearest wall. Insert the ‘mains’ plug into the appropriate source. As shown above, connect the antenna cable to the socket(s) using a balun transformer attached to the cable end. You can connect a VCR / VCD / LD / DVD player to your TV as shown above. Note : • RF cord of video player can also be connected to socket(s). • Switch off TV before connecting the antenna input. • Before connecting any external inputs to your TV, switch off the TV. The company will provide service to the customer after the warranty period at a cost, for 7 years from the date of discontinuation of the model, subject to the availability of the spare parts. 18 3 3. REMOTE AND TV CONTROLS 11. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 1. INSERTING BATTERIES INTO THE REMOTE CONTROL • Insert two AA/R6/UM-3 dry cell batteries into the battery compartment at the back of the remote, observing the (+) and (-) polarities. • Do not use a combination of an old and a new battery or a pair of batteries, different by type. • If the remote control operates erratically, replace the batteries with a new set. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Unplug your TV set from the wall outlet before cleaning. 2. Do not use attachments not recommended by the company as they may cause fire or electric shock. 3. Slots & openings in the cabinet and at the back or bottom of the TV set are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the TV set and to protect it from overheating, these openings should not be blocked. 4. Do not allow anything to rest on the TV cord. 5. If an outside antenna is connected to the TV set, be sure that the antenna system is grounded. The antenna should not be located in the vicinity of overhead powerlines. 6. For added protection to the TV set during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended, not used for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet & disconnect the antenna. 7. Do not attempt to service the set yourself as opening or removing the cover may expose you to dangerous voltages or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel only. 8. The Service Adjustment Controls are factory aligned and are to be used exclusively by qualified service personnel. Do not tamper. 2. FUNCTION OF FRONT SIDE PANEL BUTTONS AND LAMPS E R V S C A M P The following are not caused by TV malfunctions : • When you touch the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Surface, you might feel slight charge of static electricity. This is because the CRT contains static electricity : it does not affect the human body. • Due to alteration of ambient temperature, a cracking sound might be heard from the TV set; there is no problem unless the picture, sound is abnormal. • When a still bright image (white dress, for example) appears on the screen, the image might be discoloured. This problem occurs in all CRTs. As the bright image disappears, such coloration also disappears. • Sometimes there could be a picture jump, noise in the picture and sound or some strange disturbance in picture and sound caused due to electrical appliances, tubelights, etc. This will normally be a temporary condition. Fig. 3.2 Frontal Sketch of the Television 4 17 SWAP Press Swap key at a certain channel number to toggle between the previously viewed channel and the present one. SLEEP TIMER Press the key repeatedly to set up the time in increments of 15 minutes up to a limit of 120 minutes. Setting it up puts the television into the stand by mode at the end of the time set up. MUTE Press the mute key to reduce the volume level to half the volume level. Pressing it again makes the sound inaudible. PICTURE MUTE The picture goes off with the press of this key, leaving the audio on. Alarm lamp on the front panel blinks to indicate that the feature is on. MAGIC EYE Press the key to activate this feature so that the screen automatically adjusts to an optimum picture setting according to the lighting conditions of your room. Note: Pressing the VSM key switches the digital eye off. 4. INSTALLATION 1. TURNING YOUR TV ON • Ensure that the set is plugged on and press the main power button on the TV to switch the TV ON. The power lamp on the front panel glows. • If no image appears on the screen after 20 secs., your TV is in stand by mode. Press the POWER button on the remote control or CHANNEL 5/6 (or CHANNEL +/-) keys or any of the numeric keys to switch the TV ON. • To switch the TV off, press the power button on the remote. The TV is switched to standby mode. To turn the TV's main power off, press the main power button on the TV. The power indicator lamp stops glowing to indicate power has been turned off. 2. SEARCHING FOR & STORING TV CHANNELS You must first store stations to channels in order to view a TV Program Press ‘MENU’ and press 4four times. CHILD TIMER You need not bother about TV viewing of your child when you are away/out of home. Just set Child Timer feature ON. Press Child Timer key. • Press4repeatedly (at the desired channel you wish your child should watch) to set the viewing time in increments of 5 minutes upto a limit of 120 minutes. • Press 6key and then 4key to change the VSM settings as desired. • Press 6key and then4key to set the maximum volume you want your child to hear the program at. • Press ‘Menu’ key to activate CHILD TIMER. Auto Tune You can automatically store all TV stations to channels on your TV by one simple operation. • After above mentioned operation, press 6 to select ‘AUTO TUNE’ (Fig 4.1) • Press 4key to start ‘AUTO TUNE’ • Changing channel numbers and frequency bar appear on screen to indicate the progress of tuning process. Once the set time has elapsed, you set will switch OFF automatically. When you switch ON the set it will ask you for password. Note: To stop Auto Tuning, press DISP key or MENU key on remote. Note: No keys on the remote except (Power and Volume) will work, when child timer is activated. Selective Auto Tune By selecting this option, tuning will start from the Program No displayed on your screen. SWAP TIMER To avoid viewing advertisements, press the Swap Timer key to get a screen indicating Timer Return. Press Swap Timer key to set the time in increments of 30 seconds. Having set the time, you may now move to any other channel. After the time lapses, the picture switches to the channel originally being viewed. Note: To stop Auto Tuning, press DISP key or MENU key on remote. Channel Search Set channel number by pressing 3/4repeatedly at PROGRAM NO. To search desired channel press3/4key repeatedly at channel search. Note : To come to the original channel prematurely, simply press the Swap Timer key once. Note: To stop Channel Search, press DISP key or MENU key on remote. 16 5 PROGRAM NO. 14 AUTO TUNE SELECTIVE AUTO TUNE CHANNEL SEARCH FINE TUNE AFT ON/OFF PASSWORD VHF Fig. 4.1 Fine Tune If the picture after CHANNEL SEARCH is not clear, use the 'FINE TUNE' function (Fig 4.1) • Press 5/6key to select 'FINE TUNE' • Press 3/4key to fine tune the TV station, so that the best image is displayed on screen. On doing so AFT will switch to OFF. Auto Fine Tune (AFT) When this option is set to ON, the set constantly fine tunes the channel to try and keep a steady picture and sound even when the signal has weakened or is disturbed. Password This option is used to change the password • Press 5/6key to select PASSWORD. • Enter the current password. • Enter the new password. • Press ‘Menu’ key. The new password will be effective. • Master password is 5963 10. FEATURES ON REMOTE COLOUR TONE Keep pressing this key to set the colour tone to NORMAL, COOL or WARM according to your preference. The tone changes from pink to blue; at Normal, it is restored to normal. ZOOM Press ZOOM key to set the picture to ZOOM, WIDE or NORMAL. The picture stretches vertically in the ZOOM mode. This feature is helpful in viewing the picture closely, especially when it is in cinemascope format. Note : In the zoom mode, the picture may get cut at the top and at the bottom. STANDBY/POWER When the set is in STANDBY mode, you may press the STANDBY/POWER key to put it on. To have it work the other way round and put the set back into the standby mode, press the STANDBY/POWER key once again. VIDEO STATUS MEMORY (PICTURE MODE) You can select one of the five picture adjustment modes by repeatedly pressing VSM key on the remote control. PERSONAL NEWS MUSIC SPORTS THEATRE Fig 10.1: Sequence for SSM CHANNEL SCAN Press the CH. SCAN key to automatically surf all the stored channels in a numerical order. Press the key again at the channel you want to view; the scanning stops. TV/AV Press TV/AV key to switch between television channels and Video mode. Note: In Video mode, user can access TV channels by pressing NUMERIC Keys. However CHANNEL +/- keys on the remote control and CHANNEL 5/6keys on TV front panel are not operational in Video mode. 6 15 GAME (Fig. 9.3) Your TV comes with one inbuilt Game. 1. PAIR • Press Menu key • Press4key 3 times • Press 6to come to Game • Press4 play pair game Level Score Fig. 9.3 PAIR In this game the player has to identify locations of pairs. Player is allowed to open two cards at a time. If they form a pair, the player gets points. If they do not, both the cards are closed. Player needs to remember the positions of cards which he has opened but which did not form a pair. The less the number of chances the user takes to identify all pairs, the more points he gets. When the player identifies all pairs, he moves up to the next level. • Press Menu key to open the card • Press 3/4and 5/6key to select a particular card • Press DISP key to end the game. PANEL LOCK Press menu key, then press 6three times to go to features, press 6key 7 times to go to panel lock. Press 3/4key to make panel lock on / off. When Panel Lock is on front panel keys are not active/disable. LANGUAGE Press menu key, then press 6three times to go to features, press 6key 8 times to go to language. Press 3/4key to select language of OSD to English/Arabic/Persian/Russian. 14 5. VIEWING A TELEVISION PROGRAM 1. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL Press POWER to turn your TV ON. You can select a channel by either CHANNEL + / _ keys or Direct selection. Channel + / _ selection Press CHANNEL + / _ key on your remote control to change channels. Direct Selection You can select a particular channel number (from 001 to 250) by pressing the numbers on the remote. Volume Control • Press VOLUME +/- keys to adjust the sound 2. USING THE FRONT PANEL BUTTONS ON THE TV Refer to Pg. 4. • Press CHANNEL 5/6 to select a channel • Press VOLUME + / - to increase/decrease the sound level • If your TV is in stand-by mode, press CHANNEL5/6to turn your TV on. 3. VIEWING IMAGE FROM AN EXTERNAL DEVICE You can view images from VCR’s or other external devices connected to your TV. Refer to Fig 2.1, Pg. 3, for external devices connections. • Press TV/AV key on the remote control unit to select the video mode. ‘AV’ mode should be selected for watching VCR/VCP/VCD/DVD player. To select ‘AV’ mode using the front control buttons on the TV repeat the following steps. • Press the ‘MENU’ key on the front control panel. • Select 'INPUT' by using CHANNEL 5/6 and change viewing modes by using VOLUME + / - keys. 7 FAVOURITE Press FAV key two times. Store the current programme of your choice in favourite list. Press FAV key and 3/4key to surf through favourite channel list. Press FAV key three times to cancel current favourite channel. 6. PICTURE MENU Press the Menu Key once to access the Picture Menu (Fig 6.1). Press 6 key. • When at brightness, you can use the 3/4key to decrease or increase the picture brightness. • When at contrast, you can use the 3/4 key to decrease or increase the picture contrast. • When at colour, you can use the 3/4 key to decrease or increase the picture colour. • When at sharpness, you can use the 3/4 key to decrease or increase the picture sharpness. • When at input, you can select the input source between TV / AV Note: Tint is displayed in the Picture Menu only when viewing images from an NTSC colour system in Video Mode. This is useful to change the hue of the picture. BRIGHTNESS CONTRAST COLOUR SHARPNESS • When at colour system, you can change picture colour system PAL & Auto colour system in T V mode. • Auto, PAL, NTSC3 58, NTSC 4.43 in video mode. TINT INPUT TV / AV COL - SYS PAL Fig. 6.1 CHANNEL MANAGER (Fig. 9.2) • Press 6key to select Channel Manager option. • Press 4keys to get into the sub-menu 56 CH MANAGER INSERT DELETE SKIP INSERT Fig. 9.2 By using this option, user can store a particular program on any channel number the user desires. • Select the program you want to store on a different channel number. • Press Menu key • Press4three times • Press 6 till you come on Channel Manager option • Press4, enter the channel number (using numeric keys) where you want to store the program • Press3/4, the program will be inserted at the selected Channel number. DELETE • Press4while at CH MANAGER • Press 6once to select DELETE • Press3/4to delete the program The particular program is deleted from the channel number, and all programs after that channel number are shifted up by one channel number. SKIP By using this option, user can SKIP a channel no. • While at CH MANAGER Press4 • Press 6to come at SKIP option • Press3/4, user will be asked for a password. Enter the password • Skip will be turned ON. Next time when the user surfs the channels, the channel will be skipped. 8 13 7. SOUND MENU 9. FEATURE MENU Press ‘Menu’ key. Press 4 key thrice to select this option (Fig. 9.1) Press the 'MENU' key. Press 4 key once to view the SOUND MENU BLUE BACK If no signal is being received by the set, you can set the screen to display a pleasant blue colour background instead of the video noise by selecting ‘BLUE-BACK’. • In the ‘FEATURES’ submenu, use 6key to scroll down to ‘BLUE BACK’. • Pressing the 3/4keys will toggle ‘BLUE BACK’ ON or OFF. VOL-LOCK The sound volume can be fixed at a certain maximum level beyond which the level will not rise further. • Select 'VOL-LOCK' by pressing 3/4key. You will be asked for a password. • Enter the password. Volume Lock will be effective. AUTO OFF 5 6BLUE BACK In TV mode, if no signal is received by the set for 10 minutes, AUTO OFF you can set the TV to shut off automatically in the ‘AUTO HOTEL MODE OFF/ON’. DNR BLACK STRETCH • In the ‘FEATURES’ submenu, use 6key to scroll down to CH MANAGER ‘AUTO OFF’. GAME • Pressing3/4keys will toggle ‘AUTO OFF’ between ON PANEL LOCK and OFF. SOUND-SYS You can select the sound system by pressing 3/4key OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF LANGUAGE HOTEL MODE Fig. 9.1 This mode helps is freezing the volume at its present value. Tuning control also turns inaccessible. • Press 6key to select HOTEL MODE • Press4key. You will be asked for a password. On entering the password, ‘HOTEL MODE’ will be activated. BG, SUB-BG, I, DK/K1 • You can change low frequency response of audio by varying Bass control by using 3/4key. • You can change high frequency response of audio by varying TREBLE control by using 3/4key. • You can change Balance between the two speakers by varying BALANCE control by using 3/4key. OFF SOUND-SYS BG BASS TREBLE BALANCE Fig. 7.1 DNR (DIGITAL NOISE REDUCTION) This feature reduces the picture noise • Press 6key to select this option • Press4key to select 'ON' or 'OFF' ON: Activates DNR - should be selected when viewing a noisy picture OFF: Deactivates the DNR Note: It is a performance feature and not demonstrable. BLACK STRETCH While at this option Press 3/4key to set it to ON. This enhances the contrast and picture details of the TV. 12 VOL-LOCK 9 8. CHANNEL SCHEDULER Press the ‘MENU KEY’. Press4key twice to arrive at CHANNEL SCHEDULER (Fig. 8.1) CLOCK This feature helps you set the time of the clock operating in the TV system • After above operation, press 6 key to select ‘CLOCK’ CLOCK option. OFF TIMER • By pressing 3/4key, it will help you shift between ON TIMER AM/PM. ON POS • By pressing numeric keys time can be input. ALARM • By pressing DISP key clock will be displayed on the TV CALENDAR screen. By pressing DISP once more, clock will disappear. Fig. 8.1 • If Main Power is switched off, the clock will stop. Note: It is normal if the clock drifts by a few minutes over a period. It does not mean that the clock is malfunctioning. OFF TIMER (To access this option, CLOCK has to be set) This feature helps you to switch off the TV at desired times • Press 6key to select OFF TIMER • By pressing 4, AM/PM can be selected. • By pressing numeric keys, off time can be set. • Half a minute before switching off, a GOOD BYE message with remaining seconds countdown will appear on your screen. • By pressing key on ALARM, alarm can be made ON/ENABLE. • By pressing numeric keys, on time can be input • By pressing 6key, ON ALARM , Alarm can be made on/enabled. ON POS This option helps you set channel at which you want your TV to switch ON at the set time [ON TIMER] • Press 6 key to select ON POS option • Press numeric keys to set the channel at which you want your TV to switch ON at set time [ON TIMER] • Press 6 key on ALARM, Alarm can be made on/enabled. ALARM You have to switch on the ALARM in order for the above timers to be effective • Press 6 key to select ALARM option • Press4key to switch it ON Note: ALARM option can be selected only after the ON TIMER / OFF TIMER is set CALENDAR This option helps you access CALENDAR from year 1900-2099 While at Channel Scheduler option • Press 6 key to select CALENDAR option • Press4key to view CALENDAR • Press 5/6 key to select month/year • Press 3/4 key to surf through month/year.
