Investing in exceptional healthcare close
to home: The power of your philanthropy.
Your gift has made a meaningful difference.
A Message from Cindy McDonell, Chief Operating Officer
Every day I come to work at Georgetown Hospital I am reminded of how wonderful this
community has been to us and how privileged we are to serve you.
Your generosity of spirit, your philanthropic attitude, and the commitment you’ve made
to ensure we are able to fund exceptional healthcare close to home is not only inspiring,
but life-changing for so many of the patients we see each day.
Cindy McDonell
The funds raised by our capital campaign enabled us to buy a much-needed CT Scanner
and build a beautiful and extraordinarily efficient Emergency Department – improving
timely access to care and making the patient experience so much better.
These funds gave us the ability to plan every detail of our Emergency Department, ensuring
the utmost care was taken to consider the patient perspective and address their needs during
a time that is often fraught with discomfort and fear.
Thank you to all our donors, contributors, and volunteers. Our hospital wouldn’t be the excellent community resource
it is today without you.

“You never really know how valuable the
hospital is until you have to use it personally.”
RON STIEL, PATIENT
Faster diagnosis offers better quality
patient care right here at home.
Dr. Kelly Williams, Emergency Department Director
After 10 years at Georgetown Hospital, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing our hospital both
before and after the transformation of our Emergency and Diagnostic Imaging Departments.
It is unimaginable to me now that we used to transfer patients - who were often in pain or in
poor condition – to another hospital for a CT Scan in order to properly diagnose their problem.
Not only does our redeveloped and reimagined Emergency Department offer patients more
privacy and better quality of care through improved triage processes and facilities, but also
Dr. Kelly Williams
access to both an on-site CT Scanner and point-of-care Ultrasound, which have saved
innumerable lives, and have clearly made a phenomenal difference to the level and quality of patient care available right
here in our community.
We have reduced Emergency Department wait times, we have removed delays in diagnosis, we have eliminated the
trauma associated with transferring patients for diagnostic imaging, and we have allowed patients to remain here at
home with their families when they need their support the most.
There is no way to overstate the importance of the quality of patient care that your generosity has allowed.
From my heart, thank you.
The value of our new CT Scanner
cannot be underestimated.
Dr. Tim Durrant, Medical Director for
Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital
In today’s modern hospitals, the value of imaging technology such as our new CT Scanner,
cannot be underestimated.
Dr. Tim Durrant
Diagnostic imaging and specifically CT has resulted in a paradigm shift in diagnosis – from
external clinical assessment of internal body structures to direct visibility, and from diagnostic
surgery to directed surgical therapies. Because of this, the CT Scanner is critical to the
functioning of the Emergency Department.
The community’s understanding of the importance of access to quality healthcare and the vital
equipment needed to provide this care, is what led to such an inspiring commitment to the
hospital – and to each other – to raise the funds needed to make this a reality.
I want to thank you for your gift – each day I’m here I get to see what a tremendous difference
it has made.

Investing in Healthcare Close to Home:
Thank You
KC Carruthers.
The 2011 community kick off to the capital campaign highlighted that this was the
largest redevelopment in the hospital’s 50 year history. Not only were the physical
construction, infrastructure upgrades and reorganization massive, but the funding
needed was nothing like what had ever been raised – or been attempted – before.
It seemed unrealistic and unreachable to some, but for others it was simply a job
that had to get done.
As the Executive Director
of The Foundation before
and during this incredible
campaign, KC was
instrumental in creating
a vision in which the
Georgetown community
wanted to invest, and
in motivating both our
residents and corporate
partners to do so.
We couldn’t have done
it without you!
A look back at the capital campaign.
The project was going to cost the hospital $14.2 Million – but in unexpected acts
of support, both the province and the Town of Halton Hills provided funding for the
project – leaving The Foundation $6.75 Million to raise after hospital funding was
added to their generous gifts.
On July 30th, 2014 the hospital moved into its new Diagnostic Imaging Department,
the last phase of the hospital redevelopment project. In just three years, our
community raised $6.75 Million and made the expansion and CT Scanner a reality.
It was an incredible achievement for which we are all very grateful.
“This community cares a great deal
about keeping healthcare in our
community. The fact that we were
trying to raise funds at the same
time that two other major community
campaigns were underway, and the
fact that we achieved our funding
goals, demonstrates how important
this hospital is to Georgetown.”

A Hospital Built By The
Community, For The Community.
Laurent Thibault, Foundation Board Chair
2009 - 2013

The Georgetown Hospital was literally built by the
community, for the community, more than 50 years ago.
It was built in an effort to make healthcare available to
Georgetown residents and, over the years since, we’ve been
determined to ensure that this very important community
resource continues to be available.
When the hospital recognized that a CT Scanner was essential to keep our community
hospital modern and relevant. The Foundation made a commitment to raising whatever
funds were required to get this piece of vital equipment.
It turned out that housing the CT Scanner required the addition of a whole new
Emergency Department with a price tag of $14.2 Million. For the government to fund a
major capital investment in our hospital, we would have had to wait in line for 10 years.
Instead, The Foundation was tasked with raising the largest share – $6.75 Million.
With the hospital’s own internal funds and a big contribution from the municipality,
which in turn convinced the province to contribute something, I am so pleased to say
that our community pulled together and made it happen.
It’s a tribute to the original builders and to one another that we’re continuing this legacy
of caring and building together. I can’t say enough about the philanthropic leadership in
our community. I’m very proud of what we accomplished together and very grateful for
the tremendous gifts we received.
Our Community Hospital
Saved My Life.
Ron Stiel
Ron Stiel figures he’s lucky to be alive.
“I never imagined that I’d be a significant user of the
Georgetown Hospital,” says Ron, “But I guess you
never really know what’s going to happen.”
A Birthday
Gift for the
Georgetown
Hospital
Foundation.
Fred Helson kicks off
community fundraising
for the capital campaign
with a gift of $1 Million
to celebrate his 90th
birthday. His leadership
gift demonstrated the
importance of giving to
the rest of the Georgetown
community and paved the
way for other residents
to make gifts of their own.
Ron managed to walk into the Emergency Department
when he had his heart attack a couple of years ago.
He remembers being impressed with the professionalism of the staff, the expediency with
which he was triaged, diagnosed and treated, and the exceptional facilities that the new Emergency Department had
to offer. “If you could say that an emergency experience was excellent, then this definitely was excellent,” quips Ron.
Ron Stiel
But a year later Ron was in a much more desperate situation. Acute and almost complete kidney failure brought him
back to the Emergency Department, this time by ambulance. “I wasn’t going to make it if they didn’t treat me right then
and there in Georgetown,” Ron remembers. “They couldn’t send me anywhere else – I wouldn’t have survived the trip.”
Without a community hospital and exceptional healthcare close to home, Ron wouldn’t be with us today. “I’m willing
to do anything for this hospital,” says a grateful Ron. “I do whatever I can during fundraising events, I make donations,
and I encourage others to do the same.”
Doesn’t seem like just luck after all now, does it?

“The Georgetown Hospital is an incredible community resource.
As the President of the Volunteer Association, I can’t say enough about
the improved patient experience that comes directly from having these
tremendous facilities and equipment available. It’s the next level of care
for our community and the volunteers were very proud to have been a part
of The Foundation’s fundraising efforts. I see the difference that donations
make every day.”

Having a CT
Scanner
Here Made
a Measurable
Difference.
Pam & Alec Cook
“Watching your child go
through the process of injury,
Alec Cook
diagnosis and treatment can be
very scary,” says Pam Cook, mother of Alec, 12. “We were
so relieved to have him assessed right away in Georgetown.
It made a huge difference to our sense of well-being.”
“The Foundation approached me to sit on their Board and
I felt it was a good opportunity to give something back to
the community that had been so generous with my CF
work,” says Shelley. “Plus I really believe in the importance
of supporting our local hospital and I felt that this was a
way I could make a difference.”
Alec, an avid hockey player in the OMHA (Ontario Minor
Hockey Association) had suffered his third concussion and
was told that it might mean an early end to his season – and
possibly playing the game he loved. Timely access to a CT
Scanner at Georgetown Hospital allowed Alec’s doctors to
quickly assess his injury and determine that he could, in
fact, finish his season.
She realized that the undertaking of the capital campaign
was going to be a significant uphill fundraising climb, but
after assessing the need, realizing what great community
connections she had, and surrounded by a dedicated
Board, she believed – when some others didn’t – that
it was actually achievable.
“Being able to find out right away what the situation was,
without waiting weeks for a scan, alleviated our and Alec’s
worry,” Pam continues, “It allowed us all to recover from
the shock and fear that concussion inspires, and quickly
refocus on Alec’s hockey season and the next steps in
treatment and prevention.”
“This is a generous community. We knew we’d find a way
to get it done. Plus we didn’t really have a choice,” a smiling
Shelley points out, “So we just did it.”
In fact, it allowed Alec to not only play the rest of his season,
but gave him the opportunity to become the only player in
the Erin-Hillsburgh Minor Hockey Association history to
win two championship OMHA cups. Now that sounds like
a win for everyone!
Thank you to all of our Corporate Campaign Donors.
Your leadership gifts allowed us to achieve our goals!
“We give to the hospital because it’s the right thing to do.
It’s the hospital my family and I use, and it’s the hospital
that serves my Georgetown clients. We jumped in when
The Foundation put out the call for help to raise the funds
required for the hospital redevelopment by making a
donation - but we also asked our clients to help us make it
even more meaningful. I honestly didn’t think that it would
amount to $30,000 – but that’s Georgetown. The spirit of
generosity is always alive and well.”
Trevor Buttle, CPA, CA, LPA, MBA, Owner of GBA LLP
“Georgetown Kiwanis is an active and ongoing supporter
of local initiatives that impact our children and our
community. The Hospital’s capital campaign was an obvious
fit for us and the Club has enjoyed working with the
Hospital to achieve their funding goals.”
Mike Francis, Kiwanis Club President, Georgetown Chapter
“Georgetown Hospital is here for my family, my employees
and our entire community. Because it plays such an
important role in healthcare for everyone I believe it
deserves our strongest possible support.”
Tomas Kase, Owner, Georgetown Canadian Tire

A Message from Foundation
Executive Director Mary McPherson
As a new member of The Foundation team, building this
Stewardship Report and getting to know people here at
the hospital and in our community has been a wonderful
journey. Clearly this is a community with the commitment
and ability to come together and create change where
and when it is needed most.
Mary McPherson
Looking ahead to the ongoing evolution of our hospital
and its subsequent needs, our goal is clear: to continue
funding the vital equipment and infrastructure that will
allow our hospital to grow and continue offering the
very best healthcare available.
I want to thank our generous donors – past and present. Your gifts have made
a measurable difference to every patient that Georgetown Hospital has served.
I would encourage you to spread your philanthropic spirit to your friends,
neighbours, colleagues, children and grandchildren. Georgetown Hospital’s position
as a community resource relies on the generosity and commitment of future givers.
I am in awe of the tradition of philanthropy here in our community. It is a privilege to
continue the tremendous work begun by our Foundation and Boards past and present,
and I hope you’ll join us on this journey as we continue to fund exceptional healthcare
close to home.
About the Georgetown Hospital Foundation
The Georgetown Hospital Foundation is the fundraising arm of Georgetown Hospital.
The Foundation plays a key role in partnering with the communities of Halton Hills to
ensure that Georgetown Hospital is equipped to provide the highest quality patient
care possible today and in the future.
Gifts made to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation will help ensure our caregivers have
the medical equipment they need to care for our patients. Since the government funds
virtually no clinical equipment, our hospital relies on the support of our entire community
to help acquire these vital items.
