(AP) - The support arm of the New York State Archives is presenting a history award to documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, who will appear at the Empire State Plaza award ceremony. Burns and Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer will give a one-hour talk before the 8:45 award presentation Monday evening. The Empire State Archives and History Award is presented annually to nationally prominent individuals for their work in historic research or interpretation. Past winners include C-SPAN founder Brian Lamb, actors Sam Waterston and Richard Dreyfuss, and historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Henry Louis Gates. Burns was selected for his four-decade record of producing documentaries that help interpret American military, political and social history. (Copyright 2012 The Associated Press.
