McCullough`s Serving in Cambodia.
November 2012 McCullough’s Serving in Cambodia. Serving in Cambodia at Gateway! One thing that is missed from Canada are the fall leaves. Managers of Gateway, Matthew and Vanny Where has the time flown? It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost upon us. Christmas Outreaches and gatherings are in the process of being organized. November has been a month of trusting and seeking the Lord for the needs of Gateway Ministry and Gateway Café, with several leadership meetings and a Board meeting to seek wisdom on the next steps. We continue to be blessed by the Lord and everything He is doing through the staff and volunteers at Gateway. We have had another brother enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ this month as well as a couple desiring to go through the Believers Baptism course. Our daily joy to be in a place to “Discovery Bible Study” be used as well in a staff devotion has made place to grow personit through several books ally. Other Ministries at Gateway Connie, a young German lady, arrived a couple months ago to teach some English for a year at Gateway. While she has been here she has taught English to our Staff receiving English Lessons staff to help and improve their customer service from Connie. while speaking with the foreigners that come into Gateway. One of our cooks, before coming to Gateway, could not read or write Khmer let alone English, but thanks to Connie and other staff she is learning to read and to write. Please pray as we encourage and challenge all our staff and as we reach out to the students. English Classes are offered twice a day as well as a Christian University has rented out the top floor of Gateway to being another place where students can come and learn business as well learn more about Jesus Christ. Update on the Girls The girls have had a week off of school, for the Annual Khmer Water Festival, so we have been able to decorate the house and share some great Christmas preparation memo- ries. The girls know very well that the meaning of Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. They wanted to decorate to have everything ready for His party. The girls are doing very well in school. We are surprised every week when they need to read their books to us that they will be ready for the teacher. We are thankful for the support the teachers have given them. Even Rebekah is saying more and more understandable words. We are thankful that they have all been relatively healthy, the foot and mouth disease has been going around the missionary families in Phnom Penh Thmey but thankfully the girls have not gotten sick. Please pray for protection and good health over the next few months. The Reason for the Season—The reason we are here! Christmas—In Cambodia it has different meanings. Normally it is not a holiday in the general population, all schools still are going, except International Schools. Even some Christian schools work through Christmas (December 25th) The Christians celebrate Christmas from December 1st to January 1st with many church members going from church to church celebrating the Christmas Story-the birth of Christ. Celebrations are spread so that everyone can be a part of everyone’s celebration. As a westerner, we have kept the date of the 25th as Christmas, and we put up the Christmas tree with all the trimmings. Knowing that we celebrate Christmas because of the birth of Christ, gives us grateful spirits that desire to reach out to others. We travel away from our family and friends to be able to share the truth and the love of God to hear. May this Christmas, the love of Christ, fill the hearts of everyone we come in contact with. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as well. Praying that the interactions we have with the students and guests at Gateway as well as New Life and other places we are at will bring glory to God. As we continue to disciple and mentor, may we have the wisdom and grace as well as boldness to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ in a clear way with the people God brings across our paths. It is an honour and joy to be serving the Cambodian People. May the reason for the season become a light and an encouragement to the people of Cambodia during the holidays. Future Plans We are seeking the Lord over the next few months asking for Him to reveal His will for our future. We have just over 6 months left at Gateway Ministries before finishing up our third term with Pioneers Canada. It is hard to believe that this coming April we will have been 8 years with Pioneers. As of now, the future will be us returning to Canada on June 14th for our home assignment and then seeking the Lord for the next steps. There Page 2 are seve r a l options but we want to be led by the Lord. T h e First Day, First Term with m o s t Pioneers Canada in Ottawa i m p o r t a n t thing is for us to focus over the next 6 months on what the Lord has for us now, at Gateway Ministries and for us just to trust that He will lead and provide in His timing. We thank everyone for your prayers and support over the last 8 years and for some even the two years before that while we were with YWAM. The Lord has always been faithful to be there for us through it all.
