Learning new music with
Portland based singer-songwriter and GALA featured
artist Matt Alber. Matt’s
energy and enthusiasm are a
great fit with our youth, and
we are thrilled to be working
with him!
Together we share our love
of music. And we learn that
at least as important is how
much we experience a kind
and supportive community
with one another.

Bridging Voices is one of a handful of choruses of its kind in the nation. Before the
formation of our chorus, Portland had very few arts opportunities specifically aimed
at engaging, building confidence, and creating community among queer youth.
Bridging Voices offers hope. We are building a community where youth meet others
like themselves, as well as allies who accept and appreciate them for who they are.
We continue to grow as a chorus and as an organization. Rehearsals this year began
with seven singers, and now at 28 the room on stage is crowded and we continue to
grow. The chorus is traveling to the GALA Festival in Denver in July where 190 North
American LGBTQ choruses comprised of over 6,000 singers come together for their
summer convention (galachoruses.org). We’ve recently incorporated as a 501c3
non-profit charity and had a very busy and fabulous year, as we look to the future.
Lastly, we need your support! You can help financially, volunteer and help spread
the word to let youth and adults alike know we are a welcoming community.

Thank you very much for joining us for today’s edition of Bridging Voices’ ROAD
SHOW! Road shows are one of the oldest traditions in live performance. In modern
times, the term has often been co-opted by the corporate world, but whether the
goal is to educate, market, or entertain, the road show form has remained remarkably consistent. Find something you love, package it for travel, and take it to the
masses. Our ROAD SHOW is all of these things at once , and 2016 is the year Bridging
Voices takes its Show on the Road!
In early March we took portions of our Connections show down to Eugene, where
we sang with Soromundi on their concert “Be The Future Now,” a wonderful
experience for all 21 youth who made the trip. A huge thank you to the parents who
showed up at 6:30 in the morning to join our caravan, especially to Mark Feuerborn
and family for ensuring that everyone had a great breakfast to start the day off right!
A successful endeavor begets confidence! You may have heard that we are going
to Denver for GALA Festival 2016. It’s true! In addition to the collaborations and
sessions of the Youth Festival, our full chorus is slated to sing on three mainstage
concerts, and we will have members participating in two others—including a
featured soloist! We are also thrilled by our new collaborative relationship with
Matt Alber, a Portland based singer-songwriter, who has been adopted by our youth
as one of their own. Matt is a featured artist at GALA Festival, and has invited us to
join him on stage in Denver at the opening concerts to sing his song “Monarch,” a
testimony to the strength and resilience that our singers share with us every single
week and, today, with you! Welcome to Bridging Voices.
