Bike riders and crossing rules
Riding bikes and scooters across pedestrian crossings is a dangerous practice and sets a bad example for other students at our
school. In order to keep all students safe whilst moving to and from our school we require everyone to walk bikes, scooters
and skateboards when in the school ground. When at the crossing obey the rules and walk all bikes, scooters and skateboards
across the road.
Staffing changes
From Term 2 Prue Campbell will take up the role of teaching the class of 1/2T. Paul Taylor will be our Physical Education teacher for the remainder of the year. Congratulations to Rachel Mauger who has become an ongoing staff member at our school.
We wish Mr L. all the very best for Term 2 as he takes Long Service Leave to travel overseas. Wonder where this might
be?????????????
Best wishes and thank you
We’d like to acknowledge the peacefulness of our students as they started another school year, the determination of our parents/carers in getting our students to school on time and prepared to learn, the excellence of our entire staff in focussing on
our students’ needs through such engaging and targeted programs, the integrity of the many support services that we access
that creates a rich environment for our students.
We wish everyone in our school community a restful holiday. We are looking forward to an exciting Term 2 when we return on
the Tuesday 22nd April. We also remind parents that there is a public holiday on Friday 25 th April to celebrate ANZAC Day.
Have a HAPPY and SAFE HOLIDAY!

Harmony Day was celebrated Australia wide on the 21st of March and is a day of cultural
respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to
those who have come from many countries around the world.
This year Pakenham Hills Primary School combined Harmony Day Celebrations with the National
Day of Action against Bullying and Violence called Bullying NO WAY Day.
This annual day provides a focus for all schools to say Bullying. No Way! and to strengthen
their existing everyday messages that bullying and violence at school are not okay at any time.
This year more than 2100 schools, with more than 960,000 students, across Australia
participated.
During the day students at PHPS participated in a range of activities promoting virtues such as
Harmony, Tolerance, Friendliness, Courtesy, Helpfulness, Love, and Peacefulness.
A huge thank you to the community and to Coles - Cardinia Lakes for supporting our school for
this event.
My favourite part about ‘Harmony Day’ and ‘Bullying No Way Day’ was all of the school being at
assembly and being able to all sing the ‘Be a Buddy not a Bully’ song. It was really good for
everyone to sing it together.
Georgia 5/6N
I really liked making the paper dolls. We got to work with lots of different younger students and
each make an individual doll with it’s own style. It’s really great to see all of the dolls up in the
office area. There are so many different designs!
Zali 5/6N
I enjoyed dressing up in orange. It was really cool to see everyone in the same colour. It was
great because it showed that everyone cared about Harmony Day.
Also when we were learning the ‘Be a Buddy not a Bully’ song we learnt a lot more about
bullying and realized that we could even be bullying our friends sometimes if we don’t include
them. This really helped me realize that people’s feelings can be hurt, so we need to be more
careful about what we do and what we say.
Charlee 3/4M
I did the paper dolls activity. It was fun because we got to be really creative. I also did the
freeze frame activity where we had to work in groups and make a message. My group’s
message was ‘Together 2014’. The other messages were ‘Take a stand’ and ‘Bullying No Way’.
That activity was fun because we were all working with lots of different people.

CHILDRENS CROSSING
1.
A children's crossing is a legal crossing when two flags are in place.
2.
Children and adults who are crossing at a children's crossing must comply with the
supervisors directions.
3.
You must always stand behind the yellow line until directed by a Supervisor to
cross.
4.
Never follow the children's supervisor out onto the crossing. A supervisor will
safely stop traffic, blow their whistle twice then pedestrians may commence
crossing the road.
5.
Do not ride bikes, scooters or skateboards across the crossing or bounce a ball.
Don’t fight, muck around or run. Please walk quietly and safely.
