Monthly withdrawal plans can be arranged when memberships are not paid in full upon joining. An administration fee applies. All monthly Pre Authorized Charging (PAC) fees include a $3.50 administrative fee and taxes. *Family definition: A family is composed of one or two lawfully related adults by marriage or common-law, and their children who are legal dependents residing at the same address. Available to children under 18 years of age or full-time students under age 24 and full time in school. Students must show student ID. ** Teen memberships (13-17 years) automatically upgrade to the adult membership rate upon turning 18 years of age. To obtain student status, student photo ID card is required 15 days prior to the continuous monthly payment date in the month of birth. ***Student: Must be full-time and provide valid student photo ID card or current timetable at time of joining and every year thereafter. 2 Y CONNECT This program is designed for all NEW members to assist in your success in reaching your health and fitness goals. One-on-one sessions with our certified training staff include an orientation to the facility, selected equipment, programs and classes. The program is available to new members within the first three months of joining. Membership Cards The Branch membership card must be presented and scanned in order to gain access into a YMCA facility. Please let us know if your card is lost or stolen. There is a fee to issue a replacement card. Program Cards: Non-Members Program members will be issued a card granting them YMCA access for their program. This card must be presented and scanned for access into the YMCA facility and/or a specific program. (Swim lessons and some swim teams). Membership Cancellation Cancellation of a membership requires a fifteen (15) day written notice prior to the monthly payment date. Membership Transfer Membership and program privileges are not transferable from one person to another. Membership Holds Members may put their membership on hold for up to 90 days. All membership privileges will be suspended while your membership is on hold. Payment Options & Information Membership dues must be up-to-date in order to use facility. Rates and schedules are subject to change. Membership may be paid in full by cash, debit, Visa, or MasterCard. Monthly payments are payable by credit card or pre-authorized withdrawal (supply a void cheque or bank form). If a cheque or a bank draft is returned for insufficient funds a service fee of $15.00 will be added to the payment amount. Your YMCA: a Charity in Action! Member etiquette applies to all age groups. Facility Swim Test The child must be able to swim comfortably 1 length of the pool (25m), at the Lifeguard’s discretion. A lifeguard may ask a child to put on a lifejacket at any time if he/she feels that the child is struggling. Guidelines Adult supervision must be provided by an individual 16 years or older Pool – pool, wading pool and pool deck – a shower is required prior to using the pool or hot tub Sauna and hot tub can be accessed by individuals 13 years and older – maximum time in the sauna and hot tub is 10 minutes – please see signage for usage details The wading pool is prioritized for children 0-5years Non-swim diapers prohibited in the pools AGE 0-5 yrs 6-9 yrs (Not Passed Swim Test) 6-9 yrs (Passed Swim Test) 10+ yrs (Not Passed Swim Test) 10+ yrs (Passed Swim Test) Standard Accompanied by an adult (16yrs or older) in the water, within arms reach at all times regardless of passing facility swim test Accompanied by an adult (16 yrs or older) in the water, within arms reach at all times. Child and Youth Access Policy The purpose of the Child and Youth Access Policy is to create a safe environment for our kids. This purpose is in line with our values at the YMCA of Brockville and Area. We take responsibility in providing an honest, respectful, and caring environment. Direct supervisor must be 16+ years of age. *Children ages 4 and over should not be in the opposite gender change room. Please use the Family change room when changing with children of the opposite gender ages 4 and up. * 6-9 yr. olds need parental supervision in the pool area at all times. 4 Updated Jan 2, 2014 Kids: Winter-Spring 2014 All programs are included with your membership, unless otherwise specified as drop in. Please register at Association Services to reserve your space. Certification Course Members Only Specialty AIM #1 ADOLESCENTS IN MOTION This class is geared for youth aged 10-12 years. Children less than 10 years of age (minimum of 9 years of age) with parent’s approval will be asked to do a physical assessment to allow them to take the course. This session will introduce the youth to the safe use of specific cardio equipment such as the stationary bike, the elliptical trainer and the treadmill. Following successful completion of this program, youth will be given an AIM Tag and permitted to use the AIM approved equipment during facility hours, in alignment with our access policy. Children and Youth in After School Programming at the Y are encouraged to participate in this course. Minimum of 5 registrants. AIM #2 ADOLESCENTS IN MOTION This class is intended to be a continuation of the knowledge gained in AIM 1 for children between the ages of 10-12 years. Children less than 10 years of age, with parent’s approval will be asked to do a physical assessment prior to taking the course. The course will focus on the safe execution of various strength training exercises on approved AIM equipment such as the Vertical Chest Press, the Seated Row and the Leg Press. Begin your path to lifelong wellness at the Y through the AIM program. Minimum 5 registrants required to run the courses. Children and Youth in After School Programming at the Y are encouraged to participate in this course. Minimum of 5 registrants, 4 week sessions. Tuesday 4-5pm Winter: Jan 7 - 28, Feb 4 - 25 Spring: Apr 8 - 29, May 6 - 27 Thursday 4-5pm Winter: Jan 9, - 30, Feb 6 - 27 Spring: Apr 3 - 24, May 8 - 29 AIM #3 ADOLESCENTS IN MOTION (12 to 15 years) This final AIM program will allow youth to safely use the free weights. Etiquette, introduction to training principles and safety will be stressed. Wed – 4 to 5 pm 3 week sessions Winter: Jan 8-22, Feb 5-19, Mar 5-19 Spring: Apr 9-23, Apr 30-May 14, June 4-18 BABYSITTER TRAINING (10 to 14 years) This course is for young caregivers. It provides training to ensure a confident, competent entrepreneur. Sun – 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Winter: Jan 19, Feb 9, Mar 9, Spring: Apr 13, May 11, Jun 15 Member: $12 / Non-Member: $50.00 BIKE CLUB (10 to 16 years) Assemble your own bike. Bike provided—to keep! $20 material fee. In partnership with the Brockville Bike Ministry. Offsite location—TBD. Tues and Thu— 3to 5 pm Spring: Apr 8– May 29 CRAFTY KIDS (6-9 years, 10-13) Stimulating and fun weekly workshops that help kids explore their creativity while tackling their developmental needs: building fine motor skills, coordination, sensory perception and analytical and strategic thinking. A $10 materials fee will be charged. Sat 9 to 10 am 6-9 years, Winter: Feb 22-Mar 29 (No Class Mar 15) Spring: May 24-Jun 21 10-13 years, Winter: Jan 11—Feb 8 Spring: Apr 5—May 10 (No Class Apr 19) IRON TOTS AND KIDS (3-5 & 6-12 years) This program introduces small children to the fun of physical activity via the sport of triathlon. We focus on building speed and endurance safely in swimming, running and cycling. Note: Kids (6-12) must be able to swim one length of the pool with no buoyant aids. Sat – 12 to 12:30 pm (3 to 5 years) Sat – 1:30 to 3 pm (6 to 12 years) Jan 11—Jun 14 (No Program Feb 15, Mar 15, Apr 19, May 17) KIDS CAN COOK (6-9 years, 10-13) Designed to help build the skills and confidence necessary to prepare healthy and delicious recipes emphasizing Canada’s Food Guide. Participants will have the opportunity to create a snack or meal each session and take home the recipes. A $10 materials fee will be charged. Sat 10:30 to Noon 6-9 years, Winter: Jan 11-Feb 8, Spring: Apr 5-May 10 (No Class Apr 19) 10-13 years, Winter: Feb 22-Mar 29 (No Class Mar 22), Spring: May 24-Jun 21 KARATE (6 to 13 years) This program will teach you the basics with gradual progressions. The main goal is to provide students with a common sense approach to self defense as well as the focus and discipline needed to excel in today’s world. 5-9 years Sat: 10 to 11 am Jan 11 - May 10 (No Class Feb 15, Mar 15,Apr 19) 10-12 years, Tue and Thu: 6:30 to 8:30 pm Jan 7 - Jun 12 (No Class Mar 11 & 13) BUSY BUDS (2 1/2 to 5 years) Fun crafts and activities with quiet and active play. Parents take kids for washroom and nutrition break from 10:15 to 10:30. Mon, Wed &Fri: 9:30—11:15 am Winter: Jan 6—Mar 28 (No Program Jan 31, Feb17, Mar 10-14) Spring: Mar 31—Jun 13 (No Class Apr 18, Apr 21, May 19, May 30) SQUASH (5 to 7 years) An introduction to squash with a focus on hand-eye coordination. Fun and exciting in a no pressure environment. One session per child per season. Bring your own racket or use ours at no charge during lesson. Tue - 5:30 - 6:00 pm 4 week sessions At the YMCA court. Jan 7 - 28, Feb 4 - 25 Mar 4 - 25, Apr 1 - 22 SQUASH (6 to 12 years) Beginners learn court rules, safety and racquet skills. Intermediate players will learn tactical and strategic skills and fine tune their court sense. Skills development for those 10+ years will focus on drills designed to enhance skills required for competition. Bring your own racket or use one of ours. No special shoes or clothing is necessary. Participants work towards a performance piece. 5-8 years, Sun – 10 to 11am 9-12 years, Sun – 11am to noon Winter: Jan 12—Mar 30 (No Class Feb 16, Mar 16) Designed especially for students grade 8 and up, TLT combines leadership training, teamwork, self-government, and volunteer placement to help build confidence and connections. TLT participants are also eligible to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Young Canadians Challenge Award. Open to the general public. We will take care of the planning and the mess while you relax and enjoy the party! This 2-hour Friday, Saturday or Sunday party includes a specially decorated room, fun activities, cake and one hour of pool, gym time, or Zumbatomic® (Saturday afternoons parent participation encouraged). PLAY CARE Child minding service available for members only - 2 hours maximum. Parents must be reachable at all times and may only be out of the building with a Y program. Note: For safety reasons Play Care has a room limit of 20 kids which are available on a first come, first served basis. CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (Newborn to 11 years) Children can attend on a full or part-time basis according to the needs of parents and spaces available. Our Early Childhood Educators are carefully chosen and specially trained to ensure quality care. We strive to create an atmosphere of positive reinforcement designed to provide children with a sense of belonging and fulfillment. For more information, please call extension 22. LICENSED HOME DAY CARE (Newborn to 12 years) This program has nurturing caregivers who provide full day, part day, evening, overnight and weekend care in a cozy home setting. We care for children from infancy through 12 years of age and we recognize the vital importance of caring for children as part of the family. With personalized attention and emphasis on your child’s unique development, we welcome each child into a healthy, small group-learning environment. ADULT SWIM LESSONS The YMCA helps adults develop valuable skills and a lifetime love of the water, while instilling responsibility and safety instruction. For more information on Lifesaving Society courses please see their website at www.lifesavingsociety.com I) BRONZE MEDALLION (13+ years) Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education – judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Includes certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR B. National Lifeguard is Canada’s only nationally recognized lifeguard certification program. It is a legal certification for lifeguarding throughout the country. Manual fee is additional $50. Members $150 and Non-Members $200 NATIONAL LIFEGUARD SERVICE Recertification National Lifeguard Service certification is current for 2 years and is recertified by completing the NLS recertification exam. Winter: Sunday, Mar 2: noon –3 pm Spring: Sunday, May 4: noon –3 pm Members and Non-Members $90 LIFESAVING SOCIETY SWIM INSTRUCTORS AND LIFESAVING SOCIETY INSTRUCTORS COURSE Prerequisite: Bronze Cross proof must be presented prior to course start. This course will allow you to deliver LSS swim lessons as well as Bronze Medallion and Cross courses. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Class Descriptions CARDIO CYCLE FIT AND ADVANCED CYCLE A cardiovascular and aerobic workout on a stationary bike, which gives you the benefit of outdoor cycling, in an indoor atmosphere. First come, first served at the Association Services Desk. STEP A traditional cardio-based choreographed fitness class for all levels. Using a portable platform of variable heights. ZUMBA® Zumba is a dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music with easy to follow steps, creating a dynamic, energizing, and effective workout. No prior dance experience is necessary. CARDIO/STRENGTH CARDIO CIRCUIT This class incorporates the use of many different exercises creating a well rounded workout that everyone can do. Get a strength training workout as well as an exceptional cardio workout with this class. GENTLE TOTAL BODY (GTB) Low-impact cardio and a total body workout for all major muscle groups. Exercise modifications are given to accommodate varying fitness abilities. The workout could include free weights, body bar, exercise balls. SIT FIT Movement, stretches and resistant exercises performed in a seated position designed to increase strength and promote flexibility. Wheelchairs welcome. LOW IMPACT A traditional cardio-based choreographed fitness class for all levels that offers low impact variations. HEALTH & WELLNESS PILATES Have you tried all kinds of abdominal exercises only to find that you simply cannot get rid of your “paunch” area? Join us for Pilates; a form of core training that focuses on the strength and endurance of the transverse abdominis and the pelvic floor muscles. Great for everyone, especially athletes, individuals with low back pain and mum’s with little ones. Flexibility and relaxation will also be a component of every class. Appropriate for beginners, intermediate and advanced. CARDIO CORE A class which bundles core (back and abs) strength using mat, ball and bosu combined with cycling for a complete workout session. FOAM ROLLER STRETCH This class is designed to incorporate the foam roller myofascial release technique to enhance your flexibility and movement patterns. BOOT CAMP This class is designed to increase cardiovascular fitness. Come out and try this non-stop, high intensity class for all ages! GENTLE STRETCH This class is for those who haven’t taken the step to Yoga, yet are looking for some improved flexibility. General total body stretching will be done with some focus on specific muscle groups as requested. STRENGTH COR-LATES A stretch and core class with most movements done from floor level. Although it is not a true pilates class, similar structured actions will be introduced and utilized. POWER CIRCUIT A circuit-style class suitable for all levels of fitness. Enjoy cardio, resistance, sports drills – and more, at your own pace. This class has something for everyone. TABATA Developed by Dr. Izumi Tabata for the Japanese Olympic team, this form of High Intensity Interval Training works 20 seconds of ultra intense functional exercise with 10 seconds of rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 cycles). Individuals will benefit from strength and aerobic gains, as well as an elevation to resting metabolic rate. Intermediate or advanced fitness levels only. TOTAL BODY A class that focuses on muscular strength and endurance for all the major muscle groups. This class may incorporate the use of body bars, dumbbells, bosu, stability balls, and/or steps. Make sure you’ve had enough to eat and drink before exercising to prevent dizziness or light-headedness. If you are experiencing dizziness, pain or discomfort at any time, stop the exercise and ask staff for help. Help us keep the Y clean. Wipe off equipment after each use. Return all equipment when you finished with it. Take your personal items with you. Remove the plates from lifting bars when you’re done. Don’t bring food, open containers or coffee cups into the center. Give others a turn. The equipment is here for everyone to use. Please respect the 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment if others are waiting, and follow any posted sign-up procedures. Store your stuff. Lockers in the center are only meant for your personal items while you are in the Y. Items may not be left overnight. 9.
