As an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community (CSC), we need your help! All
you have to do is create a virtual flag in honor of loved ones, to raise money for
cancer advocacy organizations – like us! The three organizations with the most
flags raised by Sept. 1st will receive a charitable donation from Bristol-Myers
Squibb. If CSC wins, the funds will go toward a national marketing campaign –
helping each affiliate ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.
Participating is easy and free! Go to ReadyRaiseRise.com to start creating your
flag. Select “Cancer Support Community” from the list of organizations, and
submit your flag. Join the conversation on social media with #RaiseYourFlag and
tell us who your flag is for!

Noogie Days are a fun filled Saturday afternoon of arts and crafts.
Noogie Days are offered in partnership with the Junior League’s Connecting Kids to the Arts program.
What is Parenting through Cancer?
This networking group is held in conjunction with Kid Support and Kids Bereavement. This group is designed
to help parents who have cancer themselves, have a partner or child living with cancer, or are parenting
through the death of a loved one.
How do they work?
Each group is led by a licensed facilitator experienced in working with children, parents and families affected by
cancer. Kid Support and Kids Bereavement includes age-appropriate activities and provides a safe space for
youth to have conversations about their own or a loved one’s experience. The sessions build on the activities of the
prior week. Children coping with cancer in the family often experience emotions such as fear, isolation and loss of
control; the Kid Support and Kids Bereavement curriculum assists children in developing coping skills in the areas of
communication, relaxation and feelings identification
RSVP is Required
Kid Support and Kids Bereavement are held on ten (10) consecutive Saturdays. Contact Noogieland
Coordinator, Liz Sullivan, LCSW to register for a group at 312-464-9900 x32 or
lizsullivan@gildasclubchicago.org.
For each child attending Kid Support, Kids Bereavement, Teen Activities or Noogie Days a parent or guardian will be required to complete registration paperwork.

Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Join fellow members in celebrating Hispanic culture.
Entertainment will be provided. Please bring a dish to share with the community. We will also have festivities
for kids in Noogieland and a small partner resource fair for our families featuring representatives from Camp
Kesem Northwestern, 12 Oaks Foundation and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Don’t miss out! CANCER IN THE CLASSROOM
offers support for students and educators touched by cancer.
Our goal is to foster peer support through understanding of a cancer diagnosis and its impact on the
classroom. Classrooms will participate in activities that give students the ability to express their feelings
about cancer. Discussions focus on daily issues faced by students who have a loved one with cancer or
who are living with a cancer diagnosis themselves. Students work together to identify ways to help.
For those diagnosed, our program provides guidance for a smooth transition from treatment back to the
classroom — and can serve as an outlet for expressing feelings through conversation and art.
For more information please contact Noogieland Coordinator, Liz Sullivan, LCSW at

(limit: 12 people per series)
Mindful Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week intensive training in mindfulness meditation, based on
ancient healing practices which bring together mindfulness mediation and gentle yoga. Mindfulness involves
intentionally bringing awareness to present-moment experience with an attitude of openness and curiosity.
Mindfulness is paying attention
• to this moment
• in this place
• without judgment
Mindfulness practice is ideal for cultivating greater awareness of the unity of mind and body, as well as of the
ways the unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can undermine emotional, physical, and spiritual
health. Mindfulness promotes the idea that remaining available to the reality of the moment and releasing
judgment or the notion of control can actually support the processes of change.

NIGHT OF A THOUSAND NOOGIES
Tiffany first heard about Gilda’s Club Chicago at an Oak Lawn community event in 2013. She was already an
active volunteer at Advocate Christ Medical Center and was very excited to learn that Gilda’s Club would be
opening a new satellite location in the Outpatient Pavilion. She attended the first GCC Volunteer Orientation
prior to the official opening, and made sure to complete the first Customized Membership Plan (CMP) at the
ACMC Clubhouse.
From the very beginning, she knew that she wanted to help spread the word about Gilda’s Club Chicago in
the community, and signed up to do outreach right away. She is a self-proclaimed, “Networking Opportunist,”
who isn’t shy about talking to others about the GCC mission. She attends events and programs all throughout
the city.
“I wish more people would take advantage of what Gilda’s Club has to offer. We’re in this together,” said
Tiffany. She likes the relaxed atmosphere and interacting with the staff, volunteers and members both inside
and out of the Clubhouse.
