YOUR BUSINESS,
CONTROL YOUR MESSAGE
I AM Modern is an unique magazine in so many ways. I AM is comprised
entirely of reader-generated articles that are specific to the interests and needs
of Metro D.C. residents. I AM utilizes a multimedia platform and has a vibrant
and involved women readership for both the print and online editions. We
produce the only publication that directly targets this valuable and expanding
demographic: suburban women and moms. I AM Modern helps businesses
minimize advertising costs and effectively streamlines their marketing efforts
to reach their most valued target markets. We provide print, online, mobile and
in-person marketing, and subscription based expert reviews to help get you
and your message directly to your target demographic without having to deal
with the middle people.

I AM Modern Magazine has been putting an invaluable demographic into the
palms of our advertiser’s hands with resounding success for over five years.
We’ve always been a strong ally to local businesses and now we’re helping you
control your message by putting you in the driver’s seat. With so many business
review websites out there, it has become ever harder to control your company’s
message and reputation. We want you to know that we are here for you. I AM
Modern will protect you from unfair customers, competitors with agendas, and
disgruntled former employees who may wish to tarnish what you have worked
so hard to build. I AM Modern Magazine now offers its platforms to help you
fight back against unfair and negative reviews.

WOLFTRAP NATIONAL PARK for the performing
arts plays host to a wide selection of artists
from all genres...
The complex, which includes indoor and outdoor venues,
sits atop a 130-acre lot in the heart of Vienna, and consists of
the Filene Center, named after Catherine Filene Shouse, who
donated the land to the government in 1966, The Barns at
Wolftrap and The Children’s Theater in the Woods. For nearly
five decades Wolftrap has been our nation’s first and only national park specifically designed for the performing arts, and is
a landmark location for local metro area residents.

The Filene Center is the main venue for touring bands and
other visiting acts. With seating for 7000, as well as a large lawn
section, the Filene Center is what comes to mind for most of
us when we think of Wolftrap. You’d be hard-pressed to find
a more tranquil and beautiful setting for a concert. It’s here
that over 90 summer shows are performed during the summer
months, with visitors either in the indoor and seated area or on
the lawn where many bring picnics whilst enjoying their shows.
The Barns at Wolftrap is indoor performance space that
seats nearly 400 guests. The land and funds were also donated
by Catherine Filene Shouse in 1981, and is where performers
such as The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and
Joyce Yang will perform in the coming months. With fantastic
RADIANCE
SALON & MEDI-SPA
I
IN A TIME where relaxation is getting harder and
hard to find, it’s comforting to know that during
those brief moments of “freedom,” places like
Radiance Salon and Medi-Spa exist to revitalize the
soul.
Made up of highly trained medical professionals, hair stylists and aestheticians, Radiance offers one-stop shopping for
all things relating to feeling pampered, refreshed and beautiful.
With locations in both Ashburn and Lansdowne, Radiance offers an assortment of services for both men and women.

BEST SALON FOR HIGHLIGHTS • BEST WAX
Radiance Salon and Medi-Spa was created by Dr. Philip
Chang, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon specializing in procedures with minimal scarring. He created Radiance Salon & Medi-Spa to bring the world of beauty and revitalization full-circle
by offering a full range of beauty and hair-related services as
well as nonsurgical and skin care services.
A visit to either Radiance Salon location promises the following: friendly professionalism, a brief consultation to ensure
the services you request are understood, well-trained staff and
a welcoming and peaceful environment. Beverages are also
offered as you wait, though the wait is never more than a few
minutes.
Their comprehensive list of services is divided into several categories: salon services, spa services, and medi-spa services. Salon services include haircuts, color, style, waves & relaxers, nails
(silk, gels, acrylics), Japanese hair straightening, and manicures
and pedicures. Spa services are services such as eyelash extensions, waxing, sunless spray tanning, faces, massage, body wraps
and professional make-up application. The salon also offers
bridal party specials that would be the perfect way to show your
bridal party how much you appreciate all that they do! Lastly,
the medi-spa services include the popular BOTOX, laser hair
removal, chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Additional
medi-spa services are Endermologie (non-invasive cellulite treatment), Restylane (instantaneous wrinkle and fold minimizer)
and Sclerotherapy, a spider vein eliminator.
The beauty of a visit to Radiance Salon is that you have the
option of getting several treatments together or space them out
and indulge yourself over several trips. Your consultant will
guide you in customizing a package that works best for you. The
consultation doesn’t end until a mutual understanding is established.
For the budget conscious, Radiance Salon strives to provide
services that are affordable for everyone by offering budget plans
and bundled discounts. Their Color and Cut Stimulus Plan is a
free service offered to individuals in need of a morale boost or
job. Spa service packages can be combined into one visit or used
over several visits. In need of make-up for your wedding? Consider the Bridal Package, a service package consisting of a Special
Occasion Hairstyle/Updo trial, classic manicure and pedicure
and, on the day of the big event, make-up application and your
selected Special Occasion Hairstyle/Updo.
If you’re leaning more towards a general relaxation package,
you might want to try the Sweet Escape package. Sweet Escape
promises two and a half hours of pampering to include a European Facial, a 50-minute Signature Massage, and a Signature
Manicure. Additional packages can be found on the Radiance
Salon and Medi-Spa website.
Radiance Salon successfully keeps in touch with clients by being socially interactive on both Facebook and Twitter, so it’s no
surprise that they’re a favorite among readers. Connecting with
them gives clients and potential clients opportunities to win gift
cards and discounts on salon and spa services. Their effort to
keep in touch is a clear sign that your interaction with Radiance
Salon doesn’t end when you walk out the door after a visit.

“I don't really connect with the

DR. PHILLIP CHANG
“...Surround yourself with people

Dr. Valerie Woo
Plastic Surgeon
What ignited the spark in you to start your business?
Aesthetica was established to be a comprehensive
cosmetic surgery center that offers the most
complete menu of services from facial surgery
and breast and body contouring procedures to
skin rejuvenation with the most technologically
advanced laser systems.
How would you define the top three skills needed
to be a successful entrepreneur?
One, surround yourself with people smarter than
you. Two, surround yourself with people willing
to work hard out of principle. And three, provide
a product and customer service second to none.
Dr. Valerie Woo & Dr. Courtney Ullrich
NOVA Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics
21785 Filigree Court | Suite 208
Ashburn, VA 20147 | 703.729.7005
www.MomsTouchDentistry.com
Where do you see yourself and your business in
5 to 10 years?
To be known as the premier cosmetic surgery
center in Northern Virginia.
How do you envision success?
Success is all about balance: Work, family, community. Achievement
involves professional success while still having the time and energy to
enjoy the fullness that family brings to life.
What three pieces of advice would you give to anyone who wants to
become an entrepreneur?
1. Don’t sweep problems under the rug!
2. Listen to people and their needs
3. Seek the help of trusted advisors
In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur
AWESOME!
How would you define the top three skills needed to be a successful
entrepreneur?
1. Awareness: Know the details
2. Creativity: Find a way around obstacles
3. Delegate: To the right people, so you don’t have to do everything!
Where do you see yourself and your business in 10 years?
Thriving and growing but not at the cost of quality. The way we care for
our patients is very important and will never change …It’s done with
a Mom’s Touch!
What sacrifices have you had to make to be a
successful entrepreneur?
How have your products/services changed over the past 5 years?
Initially my practice was exclusively a pediatric dental practice. As
our patient population grew, a natural progression was to expand
to include orthodontic care. In 2009 I doubled my space to create
a state-of-the-art orthodontic suite for our amazing orthodontist,
Dr. Courtney Ullrich.
The biggest sacrifices are often the liberties you
take with your family, like not being able to make
it to all of their soccer games. I have, however,
been fortunate enough to be able to arrange
my schedule and personnel to minimize these
situations as much as possible.
What did you learn about yourself during the start up process?
I will always have a soft spot for people in my life but I have learned
that I can be tough when it comes to caring for the health of my
practice.
What pressures did you face in the early stages of
your enterprise?
The biggest obstacle in recent years has been
the continual growth of the business despite the
sagging economy. But thankfully, despite the
circumstance, it has increased by 25% since last
year.
What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and
those who work for someone else?
Entrepreneurs are risk-takers and seek to make their independent
mark. Maybe we don’t like to ‘play by someone else’s rules’, or maybe
we feel we have a unique story to tell. It’s not as safe but for me it is a
very fulfilling adventure.
What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
I don’t really connect with the word sacrifice. I have made choices. I
chose to create my business from scratch. I am truly blessed. I love
what I do and I have a wonderful family who has always supported my
choices. After a busy day, I have a beautiful family to come home to. I
am always excited about what the future holds!
What has been your most satisfying moment in
business?
Once, when my children were little, they heard
one of my commercials on the radio and they
thought I was famous.
