TUESDAY 21 JULY
6.30 - 7.15PM / FREE
Curator Ann Elliott tours the
exhibition with Julian Wild to
reserve your place please email
visualart@canarywharf.com
In this exhibition Julian Wild shows recent
work in bronze and stainless steel, the surface
of both highly polished. In some pieces he
introduces vibrant colour as if stripping away
a layer of one substance to reveal another.
Most of these sculptures were created
since Wild has been spending more time
in the Sussex countryside surrounded by
managed woodland and the rural activities of
coppicing, harvesting and working wood. This
milieu has almost subliminally worked its way
into his sculpture, as reflected in the title he
gives this exhibition: Stripping the Willow.
In these new works Wild moves seamlessly
from geometric to organic form. His earlier use
of man-made materials such as glass, ceramics
and plastics may currently lie dormant; however
his inventiveness and the wide range of scale in
which he works remain ever present.

14 MAY – 7 JULY
PRITCHARD’S ROAD DAY CENTRE
7 JULY – 8 SEPTEMBER
BOW ARTS
This exhibition displays the work of
the Art Group at Pritchard’s Road Day
Centre in Bethnal Green, a multi-cultural
centre for adults with mental health
issues. The Art Group chose the theme
of Transportation for the simple reason
that all the members liked drawing real
or imagined modes of transport. They
realised that in a city like London there
are three different levels in operation at
any one time - underground, overground
and up in the air. They also felt it was
important to show these different levels
as it reflects and challenges common
preconceptions that they are often
judged by their mental health needs and
not by their artistic talents.
Bow Arts takes professional artists into
schools across East London to improve
the lives and learning of children and
young people. Ella Robinson and Sara
Heywood recently worked with six
schools on the Isle of Dogs to create
original works of art for each school.
Three schools created bold vinyl
artworks with Sara, inspired by everyday
objects, nature and local architecture.
Ella worked with Early Years children to
design and make playful and interactive
Higgledy-Piggledy Trees. The project
also included teaching training and
family workshops.
This display includes photos and models of
the artworks, children’s work that informed the
final designs, and photos of the workshops.

Bob works in a variety of media including

that love needs to combine with freedom.

Julian’s desire is to create images whose

different approaches to figuration.

KATE NOLAN
Kate produces stark, contemporary
embroideries for the 21st century: there is
nothing dainty or conventional about her
work. She uses industrial materials to bridge

are intriguingly fragile but also utilitarian,
and designed to be viewed as free-standing
decorative hangings.
