ITINERARY
• Day 1 − Welcome to Rio de Janeiro!
You are met upon arrival at the airport in Rio de Janeiro and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure
as you rest and re−energize from your long flight, and prepare for the exciting adventure that lies ahead.
• Day 2 − Full day tour of Corcovado Hill and Sugar Loaf Mountain
Depart the hotel this morning after breakfast for a full−day privately guided tour of the city’s most famous landmarks.
After a scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, arrive at the bottom of Corcovado Hill in the Tijuca Forest and
board a comfortable train which will climb the mountain where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is located (2,300 ft
above sea level). The statue is known as the “wonder of Rio†and was recently elected one of the seven winners
of the “New Wonders of the Worldâ€. Upon arrival at the top, continue to the foot of the statue, where you can enjoy
spectacular panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro, and discover why it is called the "Marvelous City".
Retreat down the mountain via the same route and head towards Rio’s other world famous landmark, the Sugar Loaf
Mountain. Each year, over a million tourists visit the world famous Sugar Loaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar), which has
become an iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay,
its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. The tour is done in
two steps by glass cable−cars to reach Sugar Loaf which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view
of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, the Corcovado and downtown Rio. Return to your hotel
later this afternoon after your adventure−filled day. (B, L)
• Day 3 − Scenic boat ride to the tropical islands
Your full−day tropical islands tour begins with a drive along the Santos River Highway, with its sinewy contours that span
the distance between the Atlantic Forest and the Atlantic Ocean. Arrive at the city of Itacuruca, 96 km from Rio de
Janeiro, and take a relaxing boat ride along the calm waters which are protected from the open sea by a sandbar of the
Marambaia Restinga and form the Sepetiba Bay. The Sepetiba Bay is home to dozens of islands which are true tropical
paradises and possess various inlets, beaches, restingas and flagstones covered with dense vegetation. During the tour,
make a stop for lunch as well as swimming and snorkeling by one of the islands. Return to your hotel for your last
overnight stay in Rio. (B)

• Day 4 − Morning visit to Petropolis, the Imperial city of Brazil
This morning after breakfast, you are picked up from the hotel and driven to Petropolis, located just one hour from Rio de
Janeiro in the forested hills of the Serra dos Orgaos. Your first stop is the Imperial Museum, which served as the summer
residence of the Imperial family during the 19th century. You may view various historical pieces such as the scepter and
crown of Emperor Don Pedro II, historical documents, and priceless jewelry and pieces of art that belonged to the
Imperial family. The tour also includes a visit to the Crystal Palace and the Sao Pedro de Alcantara Neolithic Cathedral.
Return to your hotel before lunchtime and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. (B)
• Day 5 − Fly to Iguazu Falls and enjoy a traditional folklore performance
Check out of the hotel this morning after breakfast and board your scheduled flight to Iguazu Falls. You are met upon
arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Spend some time at leisure this afternoon before you are taken to
dinner at an international restaurant. Following the meal, you are treated to a musical performance that mixes Broadway
with traditional folklore of the region. This theatrical performance showcases various traditional dances of Argentina
(Tango, Bloeaderas, Malambo, Milonga), Brazil (Samba, Chorinho, Bossa Nova), and Paraguay (Harpa, Botellas,
Guaranias). Return to your hotel after the show. (B, D)
• Day 6 − Explore Iguazu Falls and take a Macuco Safari
This morning, proceed to the Iguazu National Park, driving through the lush, subtropical vegetation of the park en route to
the famous Iguazu Falls. The Iguazu National Park along with its “sister†park in Argentina form the most
significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America which along with the waterfalls have been
declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. Stroll along the trail descending the canyon that offers a panoramic view
of the more than 240 spectacular falls. Take the glass elevator up the cliff face for an exquisite view from the upper deck.
Later this morning, embark on a Macuco Safari which begins within the National Park on the Brazilian side. Take a seat
in an open wagon and drive through the forest, where you are able to observe birds, animals and exotic vegetation all
while accompanied by a specialized guide. At the end of this 2 km ride, continue on foot to the margin of the Iguassu
River to take a specially prepared motor boat for an exciting and unforgettable trip. You are taken as close as possible to
the Iguazu Falls, where you can hear the thunderous roar of the walls of water and feel the mist of the falls. After your
Iguazu Falls adventure, return to the hotel to spend your afternoon at leisure and your final overnight stay in Brazil. (B)
• Day 7 − Day at leisure in Iguazu Falls
Today is yours at leisure to discover the area around Iguazu Falls on your own, or relax at your hotel, preparing for
tomorrow’s journey to Manaus. (B)
• Day 8 − Into the heart of the Amazon
Transfer to the airport this morning after breakfast and board your flight to Manaus. The next three nights’ itinerary is
dependent on the hotel class chosen (Deluxe or Luxury).
Deluxe: You are met at the airport and transferred to the Lodge, where a welcome reception with local juices awaits.
There is time to freshen up in your room before you are taken on a visit to the Monkey Jungle. Enjoy dinner at the Lodge
followed by an evening canoe ride where you have the chance to spot alligators. (B, D)

Luxury: You are met at the airport and transferred to the Hotel, where you are welcomed and shown to your room. Enjoy
a reconnaissance tour via motorized canoe to see the native houses, followed by dinner back at the Hotel. (B, D)
• Day 9 − Jungle adventures and more in Manaus
Deluxe: After breakfast at the Lodge, embark on a nature hike to learn more about the flora and fauna of the area.
Return to the Lodge for a regional lunch and after a short rest, visit the homes of several local Amazonians
(“caboclosâ€) with an opportunity for piranha fishing. Dinner and overnight are at the Lodge. (B, L, D)
Luxury: Enjoy a full day of Amazon adventures, including jungle hikes, piranha fishing and alligator spotting. Return to
the Hotel for your overnight stay. (B, L, D)
• Day 10 − Trip to Meeting of the Waters or to an Acajatuba Village
Deluxe: Breakfast is followed by a full−day tour to the Meeting of the Waters, where the dark and murky Rio Negro joins
the sandy Rio Solimoes to form the mighty Amazon. Due to differences in temperature, velocity and density, these two
rivers remain separate for over six miles, a truly awe−inspiring sight. Lunch is served during the tour. Later, you may take
an optional canoe ride with an opportunity for piranha fishing, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the Lodge. (B,

Luxury: Embark on a day tour via canoe into the heart of the Amazon for a visit to an Acajatuba Village. Return to the

• Day 11 − Depart the Amazon and fly to Salvador
Deluxe: Spend the morning at leisure enjoying the natural pools. Check out of the Lodge before 11:30 and return to
Manaus.
Luxury: Join your guide for a morning sunrise tour of the area. Check out of the Hotel and return to Manaus.
Board your flight to Salvador, where you are met with assistance upon arrival and transferred to your next hotel. Spend
the remainder of your day at leisure strolling around town or relaxing at the hotel. (B)
• Day 12 − Historical city tour of Salvador
Your morning is at leisure to enjoy the facilities available at the hotel. This afternoon, embark on a historical city tour,
beginning at Barra Lighthouse, the “geographic limit between All Saints Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.†Your tour
continues to Santo Antonio da Barra Church, Vitoria Square and Vitoria Church, Carlos Costa Pinto Museum, Dois de
Julho Square, Castro Alves Theater, Sao Pedro Fort, Aclamacao Palace, Merces Church and College, Piedade Square,
Castro Alves Square, D’Ajuda Street, Se Square, Terreiro de Jesus, Basilica Cathedral, and Ordem Terceira de Sao
Francisco Church. Continue onwards to Pelourinho Square and Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos Church before

DESTINATION INFORMATION
• Armação dos Búzios
Armação dos Búzios, often referred to as just Búzios, is a resort town and a municipality located in the state of
Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Its population was 24,500 (2007) and its area is 69 km². The peninsula of Buzios, 105 miles
(169km) northeast of Rio de Janeiro, is the haunt of the rich and famous of the world who flock to the city to enjoy the
24 or so beaches in the vicinity. The peninsula was popularized by legendary movie star Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s,
and her statue still sits along the main street of Buzios, the Rua das Pedras (Street of stones). The peninsula is a
beach resort with an active night life and restaurants. The west coast beaches offer calm, clear waters while the east

coast ones, facing the open sea, are quite wilder and draw the surfers and water sports enthusiasts.
• Foz do Iguaçu
Foz do Iguaçu is the 4th largest city in Paraná state, Brazil, with a population of 309,000 habitants. The city is one
of the most visited by tourists in Brazil. The main attractions include the Iguassu Falls, (with a flow capacity equal to
three Niagara Falls); Parque Nacional do Iguaçu (Iguazu National Park); Itaipu Dam; The Omar Ibn Al−Khattab
mosque, the largest mosque outside the Middle East; and The Bird Park (Parque das Aves), with a reasonably large
collection of wild birds.
• Iguazu Falls
Iguazu Falls, Iguassu Falls, or Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian
state of Paraná and the Argentine province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu.
The first European to find the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Ãlvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541. Iguazu
has often been compared to Victoria Falls which separates Zambia and Zimbabwe, however, Iguazu affords better
views and walkways and its shape allows for spectacular vistas. At one point a person can stand and be surrounded
by 260 degrees of waterfalls. The Devil's Throat has water pouring into it from three sides. Likewise, because Iguazu
is split into many relatively small falls, one can view these a portion at a time. Victoria does not allow this, as it is
essentially one waterfall that falls into a canyon and is too immense to appreciate at once (except from the air).
• Manaus
Manaus is a city in Brazil, the capital of the state of Amazonas. It is situated at the confluence of the Negro and
Solimões rivers. Currently, Manaus is the eighth largest city in Brazil, housing almost half the population of
Amazonas state. Manaus is also among the five cities which contribute at least 15.5% to the Gross Domestic Product
of Brazil. Manaus is a cosmopolitan city, and, because of its location next to the Amazon rain forest, it attracts a
substantial number of Brazilian and foreign tourists, who can take plenty of boat and land trips into the surrounding
jungle. A great diversity of wildlife can be found even in the surroundings of Manaus. It is also home to one of the
most endangered primates in Brazil, the Pied tamarin.

• Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil and South America, and the second largest metropolitan area in
South America; in both cases behind São Paulo. Commonly known as just Rio, the city is also nicknamed A Cidade
Maravilhosa, or "The Marvelous City". Rio de Janeiro is famous for its natural settings, its Carnival celebrations,
samba and other music, and hotel−lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema. Some of the most
famous landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Christ, known as Christ the Redeemer
('Cristo Redentor') atop Corcovado mountain, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf
mountain (Pão de Açúcar) with its cable car; the Sambódromo, a giant permanent parade stand used during
Carnival and Maracanã stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums.
• Salvador
Salvador is a city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia.
Salvador is also known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing population and countless popular outdoor
parties, including its street carnival. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the country and in
the New World; for a long time, it was also known as Bahia. Salvador is the third most populous Brazilian city, after
São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The city of Salvador is notable in Brazil for its cuisine, music and architecture, and its
metropolitan area is the wealthiest in the northeastern region of the country. The African influence in many cultural
aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro−Brazilian culture. The historical center of Salvador, frequently called the
Pelourinho, is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating from the 17th
through the 19th centuries and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

What are the passport and visa requirements for travel to Brazil?
A passport with six months validity beyond your departure date, and in some cases, a visa, is required for entry into Brazil.
Brazil has a reciprocal visa policy with all countries, meaning that whenever prices and restrictions are applied to Brazilian

visiting a country, Brazil adopts the same measures for that country's visitors. Please check with your local embassy or
consulate to determine if you require a visa.
What is the weather like in Brazil?
There are five climatic regions in Brazil: equatorial, tropical, semi−arid, highland tropical and subtropical. Cities such as
São Paulo and Brasilia, on the plateau, have a mild climate with temperatures averaging 66°F (19°C). Rio de
Janeiro, Recife, Natal and Salvador on the coast have warmer climates. Rio, for example, has an average temperature of
around 80°F (26°C).
In the southern part of Brazil, the climate is subtropical, with frosts occurring in the winter months (July to August) when
temperatures can fall below freezing. In the Amazon the temperature rarely rises above 90°F (32°C), and days are
generally warm, wet and humid. The region has two seasons: a rainy season (November to May) and not−so−rainy
season (June to October).
For the rest of the country, temperatures range from 70° to 90°F (20°−30°C), regardless of the season. The
summer months between December and February can be hot and humid, bringing temperatures to the high 30s. The
amount of rainfall depends greatly on where you are. Around the Amazon basin you can expect rain year round, while
coastal regions are generally hot and dry.
What clothing is recommended?
Please prepare your packing list based on local climatic conditions. Throughout the country, the dress code is informal,
and you will normally not need to bring a jacket and tie. Light cotton shirts, shorts, dresses and trousers are ideal for day
wear, while in the evening, long sleeved shirts and leather shoes are the norm. In the winter (June through September) it
is recommended that you bring a warm layer, as the temperatures can be quite cool in the south of the country.
What type of cuisine is served?
All meals at the hotels are buffet style, and feature international cuisine with a wide variety of salads, meat, pasta and
much more. In Rio de Janeiro you can find food to fit any craving. A good way to sample local cuisine is "comida a kilo,"
buffet style restaurants where you pay by the weight of the food on your plate. Don't miss Brazil's national dish, feijoada,
made with black beans and pork.
If I have a specific diet restriction or preference, will you be able to accommodate my request?
All efforts are made to accommodate reasonable diet preferences. We communicate the requests to the hotels where you
would be eating and your request should generally be honored and ready. However, it is always better to re−coordinate
the requirements with our escort / attendant who will be able to ensure the establishments know about your requirements.
We also request you to re−inform the establishment about your requirement at the time you go for meals to avoid any
confusion or misunderstanding.
Is the water safe to drink?
We recommend that you drink bottled water, which is provided for an additional charge at the hotels and restaurants.

What type of vehicle transport is utilized?
All vehicles are new and air−conditioned, and the type of vehicle depends on the number of passengers in your group.
For up to three passengers, an executive car is used, and for four or more passengers, a van or a microbus is utilized.
Are there opportunities for shopping on the tour?
During your “at leisure†times, you may choose to partake in the abundance of shopping opportunities. Rio de
Janeiro is home to street markets and huge, American−style shopping malls alike. Great bargains can be had on
Brazilian−made clothing, as well as some European imports. Tourists often encounter markups of up to 20 percent, so be
sure to haggle to get a better deal.
What is the recommended gratuity?
Gratuities are left solely to your discretion, and should be awarded based upon your enjoyment of the tour and the quality
of service received. As a general guideline, it is customary to tip the tour guide between $3 to $5 per person, per day, and
the driver of your car/coach between $2 to $3.
What types of electric outlets are there?
Electricity is 110 to 120V, 60 Hz, non−standardized.
What languages are spoken?
Brazilian Portuguese is the official language, followed by Spanish, English and French. Brazilian Portuguese is a group of
dialects of Portuguese written and spoken by virtually all the 184 million inhabitants of Brazil and by a couple of million
Brazilian emigrants, mainly in the United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, Canada, Japan, and Paraguay.
What is the recommended currency?
Brazilian currency is the Real, divided into centavos; 100 centavos = 1 real. The US dollar is the best foreign currency to
take to Brazil as dollars can be exchanged everywhere. The most widely accepted travelers checks are American
Express. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, Visa the most widely.
There are many ATMs; check with your bank prior to your departure to make sure your cards will work.
What are the health recommendations for travel to Brazil?
You should consult your doctor for up−to−date medical travel information well before your departure. We recommend that
you carry a First Aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements. An International Certificate of Vaccination against
yellow fever is required for tourists who have been in transit over the past three months, or who are coming from certain
countries − Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea
Bissau, French Guiana, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leon, Sudan, Venezuela and
Zaire. Receiving a yellow fever vaccine is recommended for all tourists who intend to visit these Brazilian states: Acre,
Amazonas, Amapá, Federal District, Goiás, Maranháo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondánia, Roraima and
Tocantins.
Are there any recommendations with regards to safety?

If possible, leave valuables and documents in your hotel safety deposit box and keep a copy of these documents retained
separately. Do not wear valuable jewelry or a visible wristwatch. Keep your camera in your pocket or bag. Cash kept on
your person should be kept to a minimum. Don't leave belongings unattended at any time, especially on the beach, and
do not stroll along the beach after dark. Riptides, large waves and sudden drop−offs can make swimming treacherous.
Don't go out too far, and keep an eye on children.

From Princeton area:
Our office is located on the north side of Route 206 in Princeton, New Jersey. We are in the Research Park office
complex, directly opposite from the Princeton Airport.
From points North:
Via Route 1: Take Route 1 South towards Trenton. After you pass Forrestal Village Campus, you will begin to see signs
for “Downtown Princeton & Shoppingâ€. Turn right on Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for
approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn right on Stockton Street (Route 206 North) & follow
for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Wall Street.
Via Route 287: Take Route 287 South towards Somerville. Take exit 17 for Route 206 South (Somerville). You will pass
through a traffic circle – follow signs for Route 206 South. Follow Route 206 South for approximately 12 miles. Turn left
onto Wall Street.
From points South:
Via the Garden State Parkway: Take the Parkway North/South to exit 98 for Route 138 West toward Trenton. Route 138
West becomes Route 195 West. Follow 195 West for approximately 17 miles. Merge onto Route 295 North toward
Trenton. Follow directions below.
Via Route 95/ 295: Take Route 95 North until it becomes Route 295 North toward Trenton. Take exit 67A and merge
onto Route 1 North. Follow Route 1 North for approximately 5 miles. Take the exit for Washington Road. Turn right on
Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn
right on Stockton Street (Route 206 North) & follow for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Wall Street.
By train:
Princeton Junction is the main train station along the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Visitors can
take a cab from here to Princeton or transfer to a one−car train to Princeton called the "Dinky". The train ride takes about
5 minutes, and drops you at University Place across from McCarter Theatre. If you choose this option, be sure to
purchase a rail ticket to “Princeton†for presentation upon boarding the Dinky.
Our office is a 10−minute cab ride from Princeton station (approx. 4.5 miles).

By bus:
Several buses arrive and depart daily from Princeton Research Park (i.e., New Jersey Transit’s 605 Montgomery
Line). From the bus station, walk into the Research Park office complex. We are located at #20 Wall Street.
