This packet will contain directions to campus, information regarding your arrival and sign-in at the University, a schedule of events, and other important items about your stay at SU. Attending a Spring Reception is a great way to see what your SU experience will really be like. During this full-day event, you’ll visit your admitting college and learn about the academic program, tour a residence hall, and meet representatives from some of our many student organizations. And if you’re not able to attend the Spring Reception on April 19 as part of the Multicultural Spring Program, consider joining us at another reception on April 5, 9, 12, or 23. > A welcome from the dean of admissions > Lunch in the Carrier Dome > Meetings with academic deans and faculty members* > A residence hall open house > Campus Life Exposition, an informal opportunity to meet college representatives, current SU students, and admissions and financial aid staff. Those arriving by car will be shuttled to the Schine Student Center from the Lampe Athletic Complex Parking Lot (see directions below). If you or anyone in your party requires any disability-related accommodations, please call our office in advance at 800-388-1902. Spring Reception check-in takes place from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Schine Student Center. Southbound travelers turn RIGHT on Jamesville Road. Make a quick LEFT turn on Nottingham Road. At the intersection of Nottingham and Waring roads, bear LEFT and proceed to the first traffic light. At the traffic light, turn LEFT on East Colvin Street. At the second traffic light, turn RIGHT into the Lampe Athletic Complex. Please park in the lot near the practice fields. Staff members from the Office of Admissions will greet you at the bus shelter. Shuttle buses will take you to the Schine Student Center. We also invite you to join us for the Family Dinner on the opening night of the program. This dinner will allow you to interact with members of the University community in a relaxing, informal atmosphere. Although students will stay in a residence hall with a student ambassador, the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center on campus offers family members a special rate that is subject to availability (see “Accommodations”). This is a wonderfully exciting time for you. With all the decisions and life changes you are facing, your transition to Syracuse University will be easier if you simply PACE yourself. Pursuing Academic and Cultural Excellence (PACE) is a hallmark of the Multicultural Spring Program and Syracuse University. The April 18-20 Multicultural Spring Program is an extension of our April 19 Spring Reception (see information on Spring Receptions). If you choose to participate in the Multicultural Spring Program, you’ll be housed overnight with your host, a current Syracuse student. Overnight accommodations are for students only. In addition to experiencing the academic, residential, and social life on campus, you’ll attend a dinner with University deans, faculty, and students. The threeday program features the popular Cultural Show, a showcase of artistic expression featuring several of the student groups at SU. Registration There is a $25 fee to participate in the Multicultural Spring Program. Accommodations are limited, so please return the attached form by Monday, April 12. You must register to attend the program so we can make all necessary arrangements. You may also register online at admissions.syr.edu/rd/msp.html. If you register online, payment is due upon arrival and check-in at the University. If you miss the deadline, please contact our office at 800-388-1902. We will accept requests on a space-available basis. Chartered Bus Transportation We are pleased to offer round-trip bus service from New York City for students attending the Multicultural Spring Program for an additional cost of $25. If you are interested in this transportation option, please check the appropriate box on the attached form and include a check or money order for $50 (registration fee and transportation fee) payable to Syracuse University. If you have any questions regarding bus transportation, call the Office of Admissions at 800-388-1902 or e-mail bayee@syr.edu. The bus departure times will be sent to you with your registration confirmation. Seating on the buses is limited, and you must reserve a seat in advance. Accommodations If you need accommodations during a Spring Reception or the Multicultural Spring Program visit, reservations are required at area hotels. The Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center on campus offers special Spring Reception and Multicultural Spring Program room rates that are subject to availability. Please ask for the special campus visit rate when making reservations, and present this original invitation at check-in. Note: These rates are non-transferable and are applicable only for the 2010 Spring Receptions and Multicultural Spring Program. An adult must accompany students under 21 who are staying in the hotel. Hancock International Airport is only a few miles from campus and is served by taxis. Car rental from all of the major agencies is available at the airport. Dress comfortably We recommend casual dress and comfortable shoes for your visit to campus. Be prepared for all types of weather.
