BENEFITS OF HOLDTITE GASKETS Anaerobic liquid gasketing is designed primarily for close fitting (and small gap) rigid metal flanges. The anaerobic material remains liquid when exposed to air but cures when confined to mating flanges. Anaerobic liquid gasketing can fill gaps and alleviate the need for pre-formed gaskets. It is ideal for flanges that move in service and can be used as form in place gaskets. • Controlled tolerances, no need for re-torquing; • No shrinkage when cured; • Parts are easily dismantled even after extended service; • Resists high pressure when cured. Holdtite Australia’s range of form in place gasketing products are ideal for close fitting liquid metal flanges, particularly flanges that move in service. CA01 is versatile and will bond most plastics, rubbers and metals. Because of its viscosity CA01 allows additional bonding time prior to cure. Typical applications are ferrite cores, magnets, loud speaker cones, leather trims, metal badges, and electronic components; however will also bond cork, wood, ceramic, plastics etc. Only apply adhesive to one side. Apply pressure firmly for a few seconds until the bond forms. Allow to cure before putting into use. Bonds neoprene, natural rubbers, metals, copper, etc. Sure Set 60, when compared to other Low Viscosity Cyanoacrylates, outperforms most products for cure speed, final cured strength and simply the wide range of difficult plastics and elastomers it can bond. For example, Nitrile, Neoprene and natural rubbers, plastics such as ABS, soft PVC, Polyacetal, EPT and EVA can be bonded in 1-2 seconds and all the bonds are stronger than the material being bonded. Metals such as Steel, Aluminium, Copper and Brass all bond in under 5 seconds and the bond strengths are superior to other manufacturers low viscosity products. Slower cures of up to 12 seconds are found on Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), Bakelite, Polycarbonate and Viton™ rubber. Polyolefin’s can be treated with special preparations. HIGH VISCOSITY CA24 LOW VISCOSITY LOW VISCOSITY SURFACE INSENSITIVE Bonds elastomers, plastics, metals inc. electronic applications, etc. CA24 is Modified Ethyl superglue which was specially developed for fast bonding of materials such as EPDM and difficult to bond elastomers. It is low viscosity superglue of 20cps. Speed cure is fast, usually in 2-7 seconds, depending on the type of material being bonded. Applications vary, but mostly elastomer and plastics applications. Due to its rapid cure, CA24 is ideal for fast repetitive on line applications, such as in electronics, plastic components assembly and rubber to metal bonds. JET SET 41 ™ HYBRID SURFACE INSENSITIVE Bonds woods, paper cardboard, furniture, etc. Ideal for hobbyists. Jet SetTM 41 is a Hybrid quality Cyanoacrylates which is surface insensitive and bonds to a wide variety of materials including wood, paper, cardboard, leather, fabrics etc. Bond times vary according to the substrates but are generally faster than normal superglues. Typical applications include wood trim on furniture, balsa wood bonding for hobbyists, leather accessories on shoes, fabric bows on shoes and lampshade bonding. Other features include versatile bonding or most elastomers, metals and plastics. On elastomer bonding and some plastics, residues or release agents on surfaces should be removed by solvent wipe. GEL SET 44 SPECTAK 80 BLACK ™ ™ PASTE - NON DRIP Bonds leather, woods, metals, rubbers, plastics, etc Gel Set™ 44 is a thixotropic Gel or Paste-like superglue. It is a non-drip formulation and will not run on vertical surfaces. It is fast to set on difficult surfaces such as leather, acetic substrates and excellent for wood bonding, metals, rubbers, plastics etc. Where vertical surfaces with large gaps (up to 1mm with activator, 0.2mm with out) are being bonded, Gel Set™ 44 Stays in place. When a fast cure is needed, our A021 or the faster A113 Activators will help cure the thickness and speed cure the adhesive, however, a reduction in ultimate bond strength will be found. HIGH SHOCK AND PEEL RESISTANCE Bonds rubbers, metals, etc. Spectak™ 80 is a Black modified, tough Cyanoacrylate with higher peel and shock resistance to other grades. Variety of bonding applications including, bonding rubbers and metals, but also acting as a strain relief in tough demanding environments. Spectak™ 80 is designed for use with Activator A113 to cure through gaps and large deposits or drop such as bridging and tacking/strain relief of components. The cure mechanism is instigated by two factors: 1. The absence of oxygen 2. The presence of metal ions These two conditions mean that Anaerobics will cure when confined within the threads of assembled threaded components or between close fitting metal surfaces. The rate/speed at which the adhesive cures can be controlled to suit particular needs, either through the choice of a specific Anaerobic product or through the use of an activator. Heat will also speed up the cure time. Q: A: Why would I need an Activator? When using an Anaerobic on inactive metals (see below), or between metal and non-metallic substrate, an activator can be used to aid curing. Some Anaerobics however are specifically designed for use on an inactive surface such as stainless steel, without the use of an activator. (See technical data sheet on each material). Active Materials Iron, Mild Steel, Nickel, Copper, Manganese, Bronze, Commercial Aluminium, Brass Passive Materials Plated Parts, Anodised Aluminium, Titanium, Stainless Steel, Galvanised Steel, Zinc, Pure Aluminium, Cadmium, Magnesium, Magnetite Steel, Natural or Chemical Black Oxide. Use on plastics When bonding metal to plastic parts, an activator should be used. However, some Anaerobics will stress crack plastics so it is advisable to test before use or seek advice from our sales staff. Q: A: Why are the bottles not full? To prevent the Anaerobic adhesive from curing in the bottle, the bottle must contain a similar volume of air. Therefore 50ml of anaerobic will be filled into a 100ml bottle, giving it the appearance of being half full. Q: A: What do I use to remove an Anaerobic? Anaerobics can generally be removed by heat or organic solvents. However chlorinated solvents are the most widely used. Q: A: How do I disassemble bonded parts? Certain Anaerobic products are designed with the intention of disassembly, allowing conventional hand tools can be used. Whereas more permanent strength Anaerobics require the use of heat is to aid disassembly. Q: A: Do the colours used in Anaerobics mean anything? Yes. As Anaerobics can permanently lock a joint, it is important that the right anaerobic is chosen for a particular job, so colours are traditionally used to aid identification on the shop floor. Red indicates high strength (e.g. Studlock) Blue for medium strength (Nutlock), and Purple is used for low strength bonds (Screwlock). Orange is used to identify a removable product (Gasket Maker). Other colours are used to indicate a different function such as Green for Retainers. Some Retainers reach “Ultimate Strength” which is the highest strength band achievable with an Anaerobic. Q: A: What happens if Anaerobic gets inside my fluid system? Will it cure? Usually Anaerobics are designed with the ability to be flushed from a system without clogging valves or pathways. This is supported by the partially miscible towards many fluids that Anaerobics posses. Q: A: Are the Anaerobics stable within different engineering systems? The 900 series are created to be used particularly within the engineering sector. This means they are often designed to be resistant to a wide range of gases, fluids and environments. Q: A: Are Anaerobics toxic or harmful in use? Generally Anaerobics are not toxic. However, they do contain acids which can cause skin sensitivity in some instances. The Holdtite 900 series has been formulated with far lower acid levels to minimise this problem. Certain Anaerobics (see Holdtite 900 Series) are approved by THE WATER RESEARCH COUNCIL WRAS>NSF for use on potable drinking water, and can therefore be used in applications near food. (Basically when an anaerobic has solidified it is an inert plastic and does not impart taste or smell). Q: A: Where can I get further information about these products? Our Sales staff are highly trained and extremely well experienced, and over the years has come across all manner of different problems and scenarios. Please contact the sales department for answers to other more specific questions that do not appear on this sheet. Q: A: Are they flammable? No, as the products do not contain any solvent, in addition to the physical composition of the products, they are not regarded as flammable. Q: A: What is the shelf life? The self life is normally 12/24 months unless stated otherwise. Q: A: How should they be stored? In cool conditions out of direct sunlight. Q: A: What is the typical application of an anaerobic adhesive? The applications of Anaerobic vary a great deal, the general use of which consists of the assembly and securing of metallic components.
