From the Directors Desk
I can’t begin to describe how I feel about the opportunity
to be a part of the Holston Habitat for Humanity family. It
feels like home already. I moved here from Alabama in
early May and am staying with friends in Gray, until my
wife, Donna is able to finish up her job and join me at the
end of this month. Like me, she is so happy to come back to
the East Tennessee area after a 20 year sojourn. We lived
here for seven years in the late 80’s and early 90’s and have
dreamed of coming back to this area over the years.
Art Pearce, Executive Director
All of the volunteers, Board of Directors and staff have
made me feel welcome. I want to especially thank Laura Swanson for an excellent orientation
to this affiliate and for her quality leadership in the affiliate over the years. She has made it
very easy for me to transition into my new role. This affiliate has a tremendous history of accomplishment in service
to so many families over the years. I look forward to being a part of the team and continuing the mission of
eliminating sub-standard housing in our area.
I am so impressed with the quality and commitment of the core volunteers
associated with HHFH. I am confident that we can all engage new volunteers
in providing hope and homes for families in need in our area. I look forward to
meeting many more of you in person and would like to ask you to continue to
support the efforts of our affiliate in making homeownership dreams come true
for needy families in our area. As we often say, we provide a “hand up, not a
hand out.”
Thank you for your involvement with HHFH and your commitment to
making significant change happen in the lives of many families in the
Tri-Cities area. We often talk about the impact that Habitat makes in the family
partners lives, but I believe we are changed significantly as we invest our lives in others. We are servant-leaders as
we walk in the footsteps of the Carpenter from Nazareth.

Meet Our Newest Homeowners
The Campbell Family - Brandon
and Jennifer Campbell of 114 Rex
Road in Bristol, Tennessee had their
Habitat home dedicated on June 8,
2014. The Campbells heard about
our program through another
Habitat homeowner. “Life was
hard,” said Jennifer. “My kids
seemed to stay sick and we really
struggled with putting money into a
home that wasn’t ours.” So after
researching more about Habitat online, Brandon and
Jennifer decided that applying would be in the best
interest of themselves and their four children. “I think
living in a better home will boost our children’s selfesteem and education,” Jennifer said.
The Campbells would like to thank the Bristol
Community volunteers for all of their hard work.
Jennifer stated that, “Working with the volunteers was an
amazing experience because of all of their hard work,
effort and love that went into building our home.”
and excited to have our own home,” said Louise. “And
I’m also excited to have a garden so that I can plant
tomatoes.”
The Hurt/Coleman house dedication is scheduled for
June 15, 2014 at 1644 G Street in Kingsport. Thanks to
the Kingsport Community volunteers, the Kingsport
Regulars, Tennessee Housing Development Agency
and Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee for making this
build possible.
The Story Family - Lisa Story is no
stranger to Habitat. She applied for
the program years ago and was
accepted, but after getting married,
she decided that other families were
more deserving and she withdrew.
Life however, changed for Lisa and
she decided to apply again. Her
family’s home, located at 1806 W.
Lakeview Drive in Johnson City, is
scheduled to be dedicated on June 21,
2014. “My overall experience with
