Propulsion Motor Bearings and Thrust Bearings for Naval Application
Innovative Power Transmission Propulsion Motor Bearings and Thrust Bearings for Naval Application (Submarines) Bearings for Naval Application Technical Features of RENK Bearings for Naval Application The development of RENK Hannover bearings for naval application goes back to 1950, when the first propeller shaft bearings were manufactured. Today, the range of RENK Hannover bearings for naval application is extensive and extremely varied. The classic propeller shaft bearings are complemented by free-standing marine propulsion thrust blocks; also thrust bearings for propulsion motors, generators, gearboxes and dredger pumps. Fig. 1 RENK bearings are characterized by key functional features such as: • compact design • self-lubricated • electrically insulated • low power loss • non-magnetic • operation in flooded conditions • shock proof factory tests under operating conditions. 1 Thrust bearing type LAZ 280 and drive engine bearing type LRZ 200/280 for location of the propeller shaft in class 212 submarine. The bearings themselves undergo extensive tests in the company's own test department. Fully equipped test rigs permit simulation of real operating conditions, as they are specified to occur when the vessel is in service. There is no doubt that the submarine bearing test rig is something special. Simulation of inclination angles up to 60 degrees is possible on this rig. The trim and list movements of a ship can be also simulated on another special test rig. The reliability of RENK bearings for naval applications 2 Fig. 3 Bearings for Naval Application under normal and extreme operational conditions can be proven efficiently and dependably. All tests are carried out under nominal load, taking into consideration the customer's specifications. All temperature and pressure values are electronically registered during the testing and therefore can be made available to the customer. Fig. 4 Fig. 6 Supported by efficient CAD and FEM programmes the design of the bearings can be enhanced to the extent where RENK bearings operate absolutely failure free. The reliability of RENK bearings even in borderline applications is unrivalled.
