Coastal Weavers Basket Makers Guild 10thAnnual Weave-In “Beach n’ Baskets” The Coastal Weavers Basket Makers Guild invites you to our 10th Annual WeaveIn, on Saturday, 18 July 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Western Carteret Community Center (on old Hwy 58 behind the BB&T) in Cape Carteret, NC. We are pleased to offer all day classes and half day classes for all skill levels. You may select 1 full day class or 2 half day classes. Please select the classes you want to take in order of preference and list them in that order on your registration form. We will strive to honor your priority selections if at all possible. Classes will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. We will notify you if there is a question or a concern regarding your selections. Individual Class fee checks will be made out to the individual teachers and will be due upon receipt of your class confirmation letter. Bring your standard basket-making tools, a hand towel and a water bucket with a large towel. If you need additional items for a specific class, the confirmation letter will indicate that. Breakfast items, light snacks and beverages will be available throughout the day courtesy of CWBG. Lunch will be provided from 12:00pm —1:00pm. Woven Wide Mouth Penny Stith Relax & enjoy weaving cane reed over a wide-mouth mason jar that also serves as your mold. The base & stakes will already be set-up so you can start weaving right away. Continuous weave to top. The lid is also woven w/simple over/under weave that is attached to the lid. When the band is screwed on it gives a nice finished look. Morning 8 am to 12 noon Intermediate 4 hours $55 Angel or Turtle Cut-out Bowl Lisa Finley and Kathy Garren Most 4 ½” x 5” high Learn to coil a pine needle rim with wax linen thread on a lovely hand thrown pottery bowl with cut-outs of your choice. Learn how to add glass beads between the rows of coils to embellish the rim. You will have the option of creating your own rim design and choice of thread color. (please contact us to order as soon as possible) Morning 8am to 12pm All Levels 4 hours $65 Grab N’ Go Tote Penny Burchfield Carolina Angel Basket Becki Newsome 10” x 13” x 19” h 11”x 4”X 7”h w/o Handles Woven on an oval slotted wood base this simply sweet tote is perfect for carrying minimal essentials. Weaving is pretty straight forward here, although, paying attention to shaping is important. You will be lashing your tote with fabric strips. Handmade handles in various colors will be available to choose from! Great basket to learn shaping and the ability to weave multiple rows at the time. Basket is woven of natural and smoked reed on a wooden base with handle attached. There will be a choice of grapevine angel embellishments with pip berries. You will design and make two necklace pendants, choosing from an assortment of pottery or glass button centers, beads, charms, and colored thread, to make it “uniquely yours”. Discover the unlimited basketry possibilities using pine needles. Scissors is the only tool needed. Morning or Afternoon classes All Levels 4 hours $36 Pine needle basketry and pottery come together to make this creative piece! Coil a lovely design around a hand-thrown pottery center piece and create a pot holder or a wall hanging piece. The basics of pine needle coiling and adding beads for embellishment will be taught. Scissors is the only tool needed. Morning or Afternoon classes All Levels 3 to 4 hours $25 Mother Earth Bowl Lisa Finley and Kathy Garren Coil a pine needle rim around a hand thrown pottery bowl that has three point curving sides. Learn how to add wooden beads to the rim to enhance the “earthy” design. In the center of the bowl is a maple leaf emblem. Other choices for center emblems will be offered and choose from a maple leaf, shell, bird house or garden watering can emblem. Morning or Afternoon classes All Levels 4 hours $50 Arrows Around the Square Wanda Harris 13”L x 13”W x 5 ½ “ tall A solid wood bottom basket made on a 9” X 9” square wood bottom with leather side handles to make a very sturdy basket. Start and stop weaving with an arrow design make this a very attractive basket. All Day All Levels 6 hours $45 Fall Gathering Basket Becki Newsome 14” x 18” x 10” Primitive Glory Penny Burchfield 8” dia. X 2 ½”h x 10”h. This candle basket sits with a round slotted wood base and is woven in a continuous weave pattern using reed and seagrass. You will be lashing with fabric strips on upper and lower rims, attaching rails to hold the back in place and finally decorating with a star, candle and, berries! This basket is woven over a low D handle using a solid woven base. The basket incorporates start/stop weaving, overlays and is embellished with your choice of fall foliage. The base is filled in using the chicken-foot method. Other customized center piece choices will be offered upon request (call as soon as possible). The basics of pine needle coiling will be taught. Scissors is the only tool needed. All Day All Levels 6 hours $70 Jessica's Picknick Basket Pam Milat 6” x 5” x 7.5” H w/handle A small 3-rod wale basket using 3 colors on a flat base, topped with a Gretchen rim. The handle is wrapped with like colors. The student will continually be stepping up with each row, and again with the rim. A variety of colors will be available or if the student would like specific colors let me know upon registration. All Day All Levels 6 hours $28 Hummingbird with Lid Bowl Lisa Finley and Kathy Garren Starting with a beautiful hand thrown pottery bowl, you will enjoy coiling a pine needle rim and lid. You will learn the wheat stitch and how to add an inside lip, so the lid will sit on the inside of the rim. The lid has a pottery center piece with a hummingbird stamp. This bowl will be a keepsake for years. All Day All Levels 6-8 hours $70 Nantucket Countertop Basket Charlene White H 7”xW 4.5” x L 9” Meme’s Work Tote Karen Herman 14” x 5” x 13”h w/o handles This tote woven with Navy and Royal Blue reed and Navy Blue leather handles, is the perfect size to handle all you need for a day at work. Students will learn to add an inside pocket to hold keys, phone or post-it notes. Baskets are stained in Driftwood stain, creating a unique look. All Day Intermediate 8 hours $70 The countertop basket is a very versatile basket for use to set on counter to either hold large oil and vinegar bottles or mail. It has cherry base, extra wide cherry rim, side bushel handles and hardwood staves. Bring small water vessel. Mold for class use. All Day All Levels 8 Hours $75 We look forward to weaving with you! Cedar Point Carrier Bill White L 15” x W 9” x H 6” This Nantucket basket is based on the classic market style basket. It has cherry handles with ears, base and rims with hardwood staves. It is named for one of our Coastal North Carolina communities. A great addition to your basket collection. Bring small water vessel. Mold for class use. All Day All Levels 8 hours $95 Skill levels: All Levels = suitable for everyone, including beginners Intermediate = you’ve made a basket or two in the past and ready to learn more Large Nantucket Sand Pail Jan Beyma 8 ½”H X 7 ½” W Students will learn how to set up a Nantucket basket, and learn how twill weave. You will use a cheater rim to finish the basket and the handle will be attached with bone knobs. Basket is woven over a plastic mold. Stakes and weavers will be cane. Base, cheater rim, handle and shovel are oak. All wood parts will be pre-finished. (mold is included in class) All Day Intermediate 8 hours $90
