A word from the Headmistress…..
Greetings,
How often have you thought about the issues that face education today? Have you heard a
news report or read an article and wondered to yourself how are we going to handle the
education of our children? Education……it’s a battlefield of sorts. How do we decide what is
relevant and what is effective? When is it appropriate to keep with tradition and when is it
appropriate to be innovative? While there are certainly no easy answers, it is important that
we keep asking the right questions.
Athens Christian Preparatory Academy is a school that never stops asking questions. The
culture of our youth today makes it difficult for students to stay focused on their education.
ACPA is constantly looking for methods that inspire, motivate, discipline, and refine
students in their journey intellectually and spiritually. We are striving for transformation
not just information.
The high school years are important transitional years. Placing your student in the right
learning environment may be critical to their future. ACPA teaches to the whole
child….mind, body, and spirit. ACPA is not only college preparatory, but life preparatory as
well.
Consider taking the next step with us. Call us and visit. We welcome the opportunity to help
you make a sound and informed decision about your student’s education.
Warmest Regards,
Teresa J. DeMay-Headmistress
Athens Christian Preparatory Academy
Education that is college preparatory and life
preparatory!
Athens Christian Preparatory Academy is an independent private Christian school that
offers an exceptional course of study that balances academics with creativity. ACPA
understands that today’s student needs more than academics to really be prepared and
successful. We teach to the “whole” student……body-mind-and spirit.
The ICM Model Difference
INTEGRATED COLLEGIATE MAGNET MODEL OF EDUCATION
Imagine an education where knowledge endures with time and is not
forgotten after the test or grade has been taken.
The Four C’s
ACPA uses a four-tiered application of
academics:
1. CONCEPT
2. CONTEXT
3. CONNECTION
4. COMMUNITY

INTEGRATED
The progression of culture and knowledge is taught by identifying relationships between
subjects…..connections. This integration of ideas creates for the student a truer sense of
the relationship of ourselves to past, present, and future. It also establishes real
knowledge that endures with time and is not forgotten as soon as the grade is recorded.
Students develop the ability to critically analyze information because they have been
given a contextual framework within which to process information.
COLLEGIATE
At ACPA we are methodical about our
ACPA researched the issue of college preparedness by speaking directly to a wide range of
delivery of academic lessons. When

cultural context surrounding the

connection the topic has to the

measure studies by the time they graduate. These studies are carefully selected according
to a student’s determined area of aptitude and interest.
MAGNET
Magnet schools are typically known for their emphasis in a particular area of the arts. We
have a higher than state requirement in Fine Arts because we believe there is a
correlation between cultivating creativity through Fine Arts instruction and innovation in
other areas of academics.
ACPA desires to produce a well-rounded student by incorporating academics, the arts, and
creative opportunities for the application of knowledge.

Interdisciplinary Days
REMEMBER FUN??
ACPA understands that there are many
different learning styles. Interdisciplinary
Days are specially designed educational
days that allow all learning styles to be
utilized.
We average at least one interdisciplinary
day a week. One week a month is a
scheduled field trip.
The following are examples of past

COMMUNITY AT HEART
ACPA believes in instilling a “servant’s
heart” into each and every student.
Students are required to have a minimum
of 40 hours of community service a year.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
BIOTECH ENGINEERING
BioTech Engineering is a foundational engineering program that enables high school
students to get a jump start on their engineering degree. Courses count as dual-credit for
both college and high school graduation.
BUILDING THE INTELLECT
Building the Intellect is an individually designed program that helps any student
strengthen academic weaknesses or capitalize on strengths. Specialized testing is used to
measure a student’s intellectual abilities. Individualized training programs are then
written based on results. Training sessions can usually be accommodated within the
regular school day.
*NEWS* ACPA was invited in the Spring of 2010 to participate in a national experiment
involving the Building the Intellect precepts. Our participating students will be supplying
data from their Brain Building sessions to a national databank that will be studying the
results of this leading edge program.
CAREER INTERNSHIPS
Internships are programs for upperclassmen that allow students to “try-out” a career by
being placed alongside people in the marketplace.
DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES
The majority of ACPA students participate in our dual credit program. Dual credit can be
achieved by taking courses at Trinity Valley Community College, by AP examinations, or by

CLEP examinations. Earning at least some college credit while still in high school can be
very beneficial to students applying for college. Dual credit on a high school transcript is
an indication to colleges that a student is capable of college-level work. Every student is
assessed to determine the prudent level of participation in this program. Some students
may benefit more from an intensive internship program. ACPA does its best to
individualize opportunities for our students based upon their interests and aptitudes.

THE EXTRA MILE
In addition to Athletics and Fine arts, ACPA offers many alternatives for
school involvement.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council elections are held at the beginning of each school year. The Council
offers an excellent way for students to become involved in the leadership of the student
body.
STUDENT CLUBS

Fine Arts…….teaching creativity!
FINE ARTS…….NOT FORGOTTEN AT ACPA
At ACPA, we believe in a heavy dose of Fine Arts. We believe that the arts
contribute to a student's ability to think creatively and innovatively in all
areas of academics.
Each student is encouraged to be original. Whether it is a stage
production, a musical composition, or a piece of artwork....... we want our
students to know how to create......how to be unique.
Learning to create in groups creates friendships on a whole new level.
We encourage our students to appreciate each other's talents as well as
their own.
ACPA offers more fine arts options than any other private school in the
area. We are working continually to increase the variety of programs in
which our students can participate. Ask us about new programs for the
upcoming year.
