Art Through The Ages and Poetry Writing
Ages: 7-11 years old
Instructor: Leslie Sahaba- Marks
We will explore line, form and color through a variety of media.
This will include acrylics, sumi ink and calligraphy, modeling
clay, watercolors, oil, pastels, and crayon resist. Pictures of
art through the ages from around the world will be shared to
give a sense of the history of art and inspiration of their own
work. From cave paintings to Egyptian hieroglyphics and the
Phoenician alphabet, picture evolved into words. The children
will be supported in their own creative expression and in
developing different ways of ‘seeing’. This includes seeing near
and far (figure and background), as well as inner vision (dream
art and imagination). They will also be supported in writing
poems that go with their artwork. Ms. Marks has hundreds of
books for all ages to explore and inspire their own writing and/
or dictation. 4 days

Whether your child loves to build things
or destroy them, this week of camp
includes lots of both! The junior Mad
Science engineers will design and build
structures using simple tools and their
imaginations. Kids will even construct a geodesic dome big
enough for all of the campers to sit inside! Then the machine
madness starts. Children will discover how many different
machines, simple and complex, we use in our daily lives.
Campers will design simple machines using pulleys, wedges,
screws and levers and have fun learning how catapults work...
then we move on to fun with the Mad Science robots! Each
camper will build robots that they can keep, all while learning
the science of robotics. 1 week.
