Real Salt Production Process
Real Salt Production Process Flow Documentation The production of Real Salt starts deep within the Earth as the natural salt is extracted from an ancient sea bed located in Redmond, UT. Salt for crushing and screening Cutter in Operation Carbide Tipped Rotary Cutter The salt is then transported by truck to the food grade mill for crushing and screening into one of four granulation sizes. 2 The mill consists of a series of crushers and screens within which the salt passes until the salt is screened to the correct granulation size. (Course, Kosher, Granular, Powder) (The crushers and screens in the food grade mill are made of stainless steel. From this point forward the entire system is totally enclosed including the other two crushers. 3 Funnel cone that feeds the system. These are the bins from which the bulk bags of Real Salt are filled before being shipped to the packaging facility in Heber City. 5 Once crushed and screened, each granulation size of Real Salt is packaged in bulk bags and shipped to the Real Salt packaging facility in Heber City, UT where it is stored until ready for use. Heber Packaging Facility Bulk Salt Ready for Packaging Although there are a couple different packaging lines in the Heber City facility, because their functionalities and processes are similar we will only present one here. A super bag of a single granulation size of Real Salt is selected, its lot number recorded, and it is then placed in the bag-hanger connected to the production line which will be used. Bulk Bag of Salt (Granular) Magnetic Grate Cablevey that transports salt into packaging equipment. 6 As the bag is opened and the salt flows into the stainless steel production line it passes through a grate made of strong magnets to remove possible ferrous metals contained within the salt. The salt is then elevated above the packaging area. Tube on the left is transporting salt up, the tube on the right is returning empty for more salt. Metal Detector (see next page) Metal Detector Test Form Cablevey that transports salt into packaging equipment. 7 The salt then passes through a vertical, inline, metal detector which detects and removes ferrous and nonferrous metals. Possible contaminated salt is sent down a reject pipe, while the rest of the approved product continues on to the packaging equipment. Pictures of the metal detector above the packaging area.
