Clare, Ireland UPPER FLOOR PLAN Client: Michael Cusack Development Company 2006 LOWER FLOOR PLAN €1.2m @ Healy & Partners PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – COMPLETION The project involved the construction of an Information Centre and the restoration of the existing 200 year old thatched cottage. The development was to commemorate one of the GAA founder members, Michael Cusack and is situated on his homestead. It was vital that the new building did not overpower the existing cottage. The concept was to provide a lightweight structure, anchored to the site using limestone walls which reflect the existing field patterns of the locale. A glass box accommodating the exhibition area wraps around the limestone walls and is penetrated by a timber box which houses a reception & shop. A slimline inverted butterfly roof appears to float over the structure. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Michael Cusack Information Centre Carron, Co. Clare, Ireland Client: Michael Cusack Development Company 2006 €1.2m @ Healy & Partners PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – COMPLETION Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Kilkishen Cultural Centre, Extension & Refurbishment Kilkishen, Clare, Ireland Client: Kilkishen Cultural Centre 2013 Under Construction €0.5m PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING There are two elements to this development, consisting of the conservation and refurbishment of the existing 19th century stone church, together with the construction of a new extension. The single storey extension to the east elevation is contemporary in design, with a smooth cut limestone cladding to contrast against the rough stone of the existing building. A shallow mono-pitch roof allows the extension to sit neatly underneath the line of the existing gutter. A pre-patinated copper roof complements the natural slate of the existing church roof. Clare, Ireland GROUND FLOOR PLAN In collaboration with TS Design Consultants PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – COMPLETION The original building was a dark uninteresting Victorian bar with heavy bay windows which blocked the view of the Atlantic Ocean. The project transformed the unused bar into an up market café with lots of natural light penetrating the deep plan. Views of Kilkee Bay can now be enjoyed from all areas of the café and the client is happy to report that business is now flourishing, with a second phase of development due to begin in 2015. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Kilkee Marine Rescue Centre Kilkee, Co. Clare, Ireland PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – PLANNING PERMISSION GROUND FLOOR PLAN For the first time since its inception over 30 years ago, the new centre for Kilkee Marine Rescue Service will act as an inclusive building, where vital life saving vehicles and equipment will be housed and in house training and development can take place. This opens the centre up to the surrounding community allowing them to see first hand what stellar work this voluntary group carry out. This allows the general public to see what good work their donations can bring to the Loop Head Peninsula on the west coast of Ireland. As well as opening the centre to the public it can, at the touch of a button be shut down during life saving call outs, in order to give privacy to the people that it is there to save and recover. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Kilkee Marine Rescue Centre Kilkee, Co. Clare, Ireland PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – PLANNING PERMISSION Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Hostel, Galway PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING This project is a luxury hostel located on the largest of the Aran Islands, situated off the west coast of Ireland in the Atlantic Ocean. The layout and design has the look and feel of a village that has grown and extended from one original building. Materials will be local slate, stone and lime plaster. The clientele will be mixed so the units provide quiet bedrooms, where families can relax away from the noisy communal spaces and larger dorms which are designed to house both small and large groups. The design also allows for a phased development where the building can grow over time as needs change. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Events Centre PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING GROUND FLOOR PLAN FIRST FLOOR PLAN Currently in sketch design stage, this project is a 5* 400person (seated) Events Centre. Clients will include weddings and corporate events with the layout easily changeable between small 150 person events to large 1600 person (standing) music and comedy gigs. The design allows for multiple events to take place at once, without encroaching on each other. Currently in sketch design stage the project is due to go for planning in 2014 Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Tea Room & Private Dwelling PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – TENDER GROUND FLOOR PLAN FIRST FLOOR PLAN The project involved the restoration of a 200year old thatched cottage on the west coast of Ireland. The client required a Tea Room & Private Accommodation on the site. The concept was to restore the cottage, which would house the main part of the public area and to construct a 2 storey extension to the rear, reflecting the vernacular timber clad barns common in the area. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Nano Nagle Special School Listowel, Co. Kerry, Ireland Department of Education & Science 2009 €2.1m @ Healy & Partners PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – COMPLETION GROUND FLOOR PLAN The project is a flagship Special School for the Department of Education & Science and involved the extension and refurbishment of the existing Nano Nagle Special School in County Kerry. The design process was lengthy with much needed consultation with the School Principal and each of the School Therapists involved with different classes. It was vital that the school was kept open during construction . The client and her pupils are now thriving in the new environment where warmth, natural light and security all combine to create a building which assists in their development. Planning was tricky as the planner didn’t want us to build on this site. Timber cladding & a ‘Living Wall’ on the artist’s studio helps to camouflage the house into the landscape. Following 12 months of negotiation we achieved planning permission, with no alterations to the design. UPPER FLOOR PLAN Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Extension & Refurbishment, Limerick PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – COMPLETION This project involved the extension and refurbishment of the social areas to a 25year old home. The main concerns were natural light and the connection between the house and the mature garden. The new extension adds a breakfast room off the kitchen and a living room off the family room. The design incorporates a butterfly roof with roof lights to catch the sun as it moved around the front of the house. Each room is surrounded by glass allowing as much natural light in as possible and framing views out to the garden. The design now creates a seamless connection between inside and outside & enjoys the sun all day long. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Extension & Refurbishment, Clare PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN - COMPLETION In collaboration with TS Design Consultants The refurbishment and extension of a 10year old dormer house. The rear of the house faced south and overlooked the Shannon Estuary yet the only rooms to enjoy these were the utility, bathroom and a very dark dining room. We opened up the rear, bringing the light into the deep plan and giving back the views to the living and social areas of the house. Planning permission for 2 storey where previously the client had been denied. A large master bedroom also enjoys the southerly aspect with spectacular views. The hallway was opened up allowing the sun to flood the entrance. A double height lightwell floods the entire space with sunlight. The family now enjoy BBQs at the house with friends nearly every weekend. What the client says is every time she opens her front door she thinks “Wow!” Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Private Dwelling House, Clare PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – PLANNING PERMISSION The site is located in an area designated Special Scenic Beauty on the west coast of Ireland. At the first meeting with the planner on site we were informed that we would never get planning permission on this site. 8 months later we had full planning permission – and no alteration to the original design! The main issue was the views were facing south and the client wanted the social areas of the house overlooking the views, while taking full advantage of the sun throughout the course of the day. GROUND FLOOR PLAN Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Private Dwelling House, Galway PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING UPPER FLOOR PLAN This family home overlooks Galway Bay. Built into a steep hillside the main living areas take full advantage of the spectacular views and the orientation of the sun throughout the day. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Private House, Adare PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – PLANNING PERMISSION GROUND FLOOR PLAN Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Extension & Refurbishment PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING A tiny 50sqm cottage transformed into a family home consisting of 200sqm light open plan living with 3 double bedrooms and plenty of storage. Planning Permission will be tricky as the main concerns are reducing the impact of overshadowing on the adjoining property. This is achieved by stepping the new extension down thus reducing the overall height. GROUND FLOOR PLAN Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Extension & Refurbishment PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – PLANNING PERMISSION GROUND FLOOR PLAN The refurbishment and extension of a run down cottage in a sensitive area on the West Coast of Clare. Planning for a room upstairs was achieved where previous consultants had been refused. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Private Dwelling House PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING This summer home for a family of six is located overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The client’s request was for a house that would live and grow around their ever expanding and growing family. Currently in the developed design stage the plan allows for the house to be built in stages. Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI Extension & Refurbishment PROJECT ARCHITECT: SKETCH DESIGN – ONGOING GROUND FLOOR PLAN A protected structure consisting of small cottage which is to be refurbished and extended taking advantage of its southerly aspect and the views over the Shannon Estuary Annette Stanford BA(HONS) ARCH, PG Dip ARCH, MRIAI END ANNETTE STANFORD MRIAI ARCHITECT PROJECT MANAGER Address: Email: Tel: Skype: Sunnyside Heights, Kilkee, Co.
