Give a man a fish; you
have fed him for today.
Teach a man to fish; and
you have fed him for a
lifetime.
This well known longterm approach to development supports dignity
and freedom. Gestures
of charity are replaced with an enduring strategy
of friendship and respect, which enables people to
support themselves.
This surely is also the best way to approach spirituality. Instead of feeding people beliefs and experiences, our job is to give people the tools and
strategies to manage their own spiritual journeys.
The short-term fix can be a life-saver and also
very gratifying for the donor’s ego, but in the longterm we all deserve independence and respect. It
was because of this that my parents were hostile
to religion and spirituality. They were committed to
social justice and human rights, and they thought
that religion and spirituality were just superstitious
and manipulative ways to stop people thinking and
acting for themselves. They were good humanists.
Like many children, however, I was having spiritual experiences from an early age, feeling the
wonder and magic of existence. I was also
empathic and could easily sense energies and
vibrations, occasionally having clear psychic experiences. But because of my parents’ scepticism I
could not talk to them about any of this.
They were so hostile to anything religious that
when I was twenty-five years old and took a twoyear spiritual retreat, my dad was certain that my
only motivation for leaving the country was to
dodge taxes. For him, tax-dodging was more
acceptable than spirituality.
My inner parents
For better or for worse – I think for the better – I
have had mum and dad in my psyche all through
my spiritual journey. They are part of an ongoing
internal dialogue in which I explain spiritual ideas
to a sceptic or cynic.
Sometimes I entertain myself with the idea that
my mum and dad finally understood spirituality
shortly after they had died and, astonished, found
they were still alive. In fact, I strongly experienced
my father coming back to me soon after his death
and saying warmly whoops sorry I like it here forgive me I love you.
So, partly because I am their son, I have a careful mind that always monitors my spiritual journey,
looking out for the usual daemons of delusion,
pomposity, elitism and ignorance. I especially
scan for any attitude that might undermine freedom and intelligent enquiry.
A new voice in my head
It therefore was not easy for me when twenty
years ago I suddenly heard a voice in my head
wanting to speak through me. Embarrassed and
confused, I told my wife, Sabrina, what I was
experiencing. She comes from a long line of healers and psychics and was very relaxed. ‘Let it
speak,’ she encouraged.
This voice then wrote a book through me. This
was a very strange experience and totally different
from writing my other books.
I feel uncomfortable about my role as a channel
or medium. My parents, my doctorate in psychology, the decades of watchful meditation, my disciplined training as an energy worker – all of this
makes me cautious around channelling and suspicious of someone (in this case, me) who doesn’t
think for himself, but just acts as a conduit.
Paradoxically of course I am very comfortable with
being an open vessel when it comes to healing or
surrendering to the flow of spirit.
So I decided to remain silent about this voice in
my head.

ORBS SPEAK
William Bloom
In 1987 William Bloom
began to experience a
voice in his head which
insisted on communicating the material he
subsequently presented in his book The
Christ Sparks. He
learned that the Christ
Sparks – a swarm of
consciousnesses from another system and
dimension – are answering the call for help
that has gone out into the universe as humanity experiences vast and difficult changes. They
help to anchor group consciousness on our
planet, giving people a new vision and experience of interdependence and holism.
Just a few months ago, in preparation for a
conference on Orbs, he received a further
communication that it was indeed Orbs who
had telepathically transmitted the book to him,
and he had a strong feeling that now is the
time to bring the information to our attention
once more. And so, with some clarification and
additions, the original book has evolved to
become Orbs Speak. Now you can discover
how Orbs provide a loving gateway for many
people into a mythic and multidimensional
world. This other world, says William, has a
validity and integrity of its own. In the realms of
consciousness all things are possible.

I put the manuscript away in a cupboard for ten
years, but then a friend found it and encouraged its
publication as The Christ Sparks. Still embarrassed,
I didn’t publicise the book at all and was grateful
when it did not sell well and went out of print.
Nevertheless I stayed in communication with the
voice and enjoyed its company. Often, when faced
with situations that I cannot understand, I ask for
its perspective and receive useful insights.
The Orbs
Then earlier this year, in a deep meditative
state, I was contemplating the Orbs phenomenon
and that voice popped up again. It said that it was
responsible for the Orbs phenomenon and that it
would be good to work again on the manuscript,
edit and add to it, and publish it anew.
I resisted and then agreed.
Of course, spheres of light and energy have
been around for millennia – usually, it seems, as
souls and angelic beings – but nowadays there is
this widespread phenomenon experienced by
many thousands. The information in Orbs Speak
is one way of explaining it.
Luckily, I like what the Orbs say. They say that
they are a swarm of friendly beings who have
come as friends to help and heal the human family. They explain how, because of ancient history,
human beings feel more trusting with plants,
nature and animals than with each other. They
say they can help heal this sad wound that divides
us. They talk about the way in which we form
groups with people we never see and how our
bodies are connected and interdependent. They
give many useful insights and their message is
hopeful. They also suggest many ideas and activities that we can explore for ourselves.
Nevertheless I can still hear echoes of my mother’s sceptical voice with her lilting New York
accent. ‘Really, wouldn’t you rather be lecturing at
Yale or Harvard!’ she once admonished when she
heard I was touring America giving lectures on
angels and meditation.
But she is on the other side now and probably
knows more about Orbs and angels than I do,
perhaps attending or even giving lectures in the
Great Halls of Learning. In that dimension, she
probably accepts all phenomena in the same way
that we enjoy a soft, warm summer rain.
All my love, William

BEYOND
PHOTOGRAPHY
Katie Hall
& John Pickering
As they photographed
the grounds of their
new house, Katie Hall
and John Pickering
found unusual images
on their prints: images
of orbs, angels and
mysterious light-forms.
They soon realised that their experience was
not unique. Orbs have been appearing all over
the world in recent years. Beyond
Photography is the unique tale of their personal encounter with the paranormal.
Documented with their amazing pictures of
these strange light phenomena, their journey
leads to some extraordinary conclusions. There
are realities running parallel to ours and we are
not the dominant life form on this planet. We
share this world with a super non-human intelligence which interacts with human consciousness. It is next to you, right now!

WHY IS GOD LAUGHING?
Deepak Chopra
In Why is God Laughing?, Deepak Chopra
uses a lighthearted yet profound parable to
show us a path to hope, joy and enlightenment, with a lot of laughter along the way.
After telling the story of fictional friends
Mickey and Francisco, Deepak explores the
lessons of the tale, namely his principles of
spiritual optimism, or ten reasons to be optimistic, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. Rich with humour and advice, Why is
God Laughing? shows that there is always a reason to be grateful,
and that every possibility holds the potential for abundance. This
refreshing take on spirituality shows us why laughter from the heart
is the healthiest response to life. We’re sure that Deepak Chopra
fans will love this book, and, if you haven’t read any of his books yet,
now is the ideal time to start.

ALREADY HOME
Gay Hendricks & Philip Johncock
Already Home presents teachings from sages
of the stream of wisdom called Advaita. Advaita,
a Sanskrit word that simply means ‘not two’,
refers to an experience of nondualism, of unity
between the experiencer and the object, when
all sense of separation dissolves. Already
Home shows how to welcome this practical
ancient way of wisdom into our lives, using meditation and contemplation. Through themes such as the potentials and pitfalls of the spiritual path, you will discover the empowering insight that pervades
Advaita: that we are in charge of our own enlightenment. As Ramana
Maharshi says: Your happiness is always with you. Your bliss is
always there. It cannot be anywhere else. There is always nowhere
to go. You are already home. You are always already home.

THE TEMPLARS: HISTORY & MYTH
Michael Haag
This is the first history of the Templars presented since the Vatican published its sensational records, clearing them of heresy. It
investigates the Templars’ history, legends and
mysteries, and the belief that their hand can
be seen in everything from the Cathar heresy
to Masonic conspiracies. An order of warrior
monks founded after the First Crusade to protect pilgrims to Jerusalem, the Templars developed into one of the wealthiest and most powerful bodies in the
medieval world. Two centuries later, accused of blasphemy and heresy,
the Knights’ order was abolished, and their leaders burnt at the stake.
The Templars explains the whole context of Templar history, from its
origins in the mysteries of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem through to
the nineteenth century development of the Freemasons.

FOR OUR FULL RANGE
MAKING TIME Steve Taylor
Why does time seem to drag when we’re bored or
in pain, or to go slowly when we’re in unfamiliar
environments? Why does it slow down dramatically in accidents and emergency situations, when
sportspeople are ‘in the zone’, or in higher states
of consciousness? Making Time explains why we
have these different perceptions of time. It puts
forward five basic ‘laws’ of psychological time and
uncovers the factors which cause them. It uses
evidence from modern physics and unusual
states of consciousness to suggest that our normal sense of time is an illusion, ‘created’ by our minds. On a practical
level, this book also shows us what we can do to control our sense of
time passing, to make it pass slowly or quickly in different situations. It
suggests that it is possible for us to live through more time in our lives,
and so effectively increase the amount of time for which we are alive.
Finally using insights from Buddhism to show how we can live fully in the
present moment, Steve Taylor’s brilliant book will astound all who read it.

IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS
David Hamilton
When pharmaceutical scientist Dr David Hamilton
observed the results of tests on new drugs he
noticed that patients receiving the control placebo
pills reported the same level of improvement as
people receiving the actual drug. Seeing this
result repeat itself time and time again he
became fascinated by the mind-body connection
and started to research the work of scientists,
mystics and healers working in this field. The
result is this exciting book, in which Dr Hamilton explains how the mind
and emotions can influence the wellbeing of our body and even the structure of our DNA. With a foreword by Louise Hay, this book includes
explorations of the physical impact of meditation on the body; why sending thoughts of healing to a person helps them to heal; how the power of
love impacts the growth of the cells in the body; and all the ways that our
thoughts affect us. This updated edition of It's the Thought that Counts
now includes twenty new scientific studies.

THE MOSES CODE FREQUENCY
MEDITATION CD James F Twyman
The Moses Code Frequency Meditation
CD applies an amazing discovery made by
author and sound-healing pioneer Jonathan
Goldman while working with James
Twyman. In combining Gematria – an
ancient form of Kabbalistic numerology –
with the name of God that was given to Moses at the burning bush –
I AM THAT I AM – they discovered sound frequencies that can unlock
the power of the Moses Code in profound ways. In these two musical
meditations, Tina Malia’s beautiful non-verbal song layers over the
tones produced by the tuning forks designed by Jonathan to correspond to the Gematria of the Holy Name. The first is for deep meditation, and the second, with guitar accompaniment, is for a more
‘active’ meditation. In addition, the CD includes seven of James
Twyman’s uplifting songs that featured in The Moses Code movie.

Supercoherence
Thrity Engineer
In a normal environment heat rises, so it is hotter nearer the ceiling of a room and colder lower
down. In 1978, American engineer Patrick
Richards designed a device to balance air temperatures and enable efficient distribution of
heat. This was the Luminator.
Unfortunately, by the time he had his device
designed and working, government energy-efficiency incentive programmes had ended and
there was no longer any advantage in having an
expensive piece of machinery to balance temperatures.
What Patrick found, however, was that when
the device was tested, unexpected health
changes happened to the people who were in its
vicinity, or field. Primarily they involved a reduction in stress, less eyestrain and the resolution
of gastrointestinal challenges. Because Patrick
had invested so much money in the device, he
thought, 'Let's change the direction from balancing temperatures and saving energy and take
advantage of the health improvements.'
A mystery and an enigma
Patrick's original intention was, however,
achieved: temperatures were balanced in the
field of the device when it was operating. More
unexpectedly, an altered magnetic field was also
created. A compass reading revealed a 30degree deviation in the field of the device.
The third and most important alteration in the
environment in the field of the Luminator was
not readily apparent until some time later. This
was that the light field of the room changed
from an incoherent to a coherent one – a 'null
field' or 'zero field'. The implications of this were
far-reaching.
While the invention of the Luminator was an
'accident' (if you believe in 'accidents'), when he
found the 'anomalous' effects of the device, he
had the insight, intelligence and curiosity to
explore them further. He started working with various health practitioners, including allopathic doctors, chiropractors and others, to find out what
was going on. One day when he was photographing clients, the flash of his simple Polaroid
camera failed. When he saw the resulting photograph, he could not believe his eyes – the image
was strange and fragmented. He was puzzled
and fortunately did not throw it away. Instead he
masked the flash with black tape and photographed the client again. The same thing happened. Something very strange was going on.
Though he did not know it, Patrick had inadvertently made visible a parallel universe. He
had discovered that one could photograph the
hidden reality of an individual.
Entering a parallel universe
In September 1995, my daughter and I were in
Grand Haven, Michigan, having flown in from
London. We were full of expectancy. I was really
excited at the prospect of seeing this extraordinary 'science-fiction-made-fact' device.
It is impossible to describe the impact of expe-
riencing the Luminator for the first time. Quite
simply, Patrick took some photos of my daughter
and me individually and together. Then we were
photographed – or 'imaged' – holding various
'Lumanetics', test tubes containing what looked
like water. To my amazement, the photos kept
changing. In fact, in some of them, it was difficult
to recognize myself.
Every notion of reality as I had known it was
completely overturned – 'life-changing experience' seems a very mild understatement. 'Magic'
was the word that came most to mind, yet
patently there was no trickery involved. I was
smart enough to know that I was witnessing
something that was extraordinary beyond measure. I could not get over the fact that two completely different realities existed, intertwined with
each other, and this remarkable device could
show it by means of a simple photograph.

SUPERCOHERENCE: THE 7TH
SENSE
Thrity Engineer
Do your thoughts create the total of your
reality, or is there
something more, a
major part of yourself
that is hidden from you? Many people have
sought a master key to access their full
potential and have glimpsed it through
prayer, meditation, visualisation, intuition,
affirmation, intention, positive thinking. This
‘seventh sense’ operates outside the boundaries of the rational mind, the intuition, emotions, the five-sensory reality and bypasses
the brain. It is the realm of total knowledge
and super function that exists in each human
on a separate, latent parallel track. Now, as a
result of an extraordinary breakthrough,
Thrity Engineer shows that the master code
of human super function has been decoded,
allowing radical new possibilities to emerge,
for the expansion of human consciousness
and an exponential enhancement of human
creativity. Supercoherence may be the keyword for success and happiness in this turbulent, complex yet wondrous 21st century.

VRIC (Visual Reference of Image Coherence)
imaging is the term for these unusual photos
taken in the field of the Luminator. The Luminator
is not connected to the camera in any way, it is
simply present in the room. It does not touch the
client or the practitioner-photographer and is several feet away from both, yet the VRIC phenomenon could not take place without its presence.
Power tools of the information realm
The Lumanetic system, the frequency toolkit of
Biolumanetics, is used to create coherence. It
contains the insights and knowledge of the disciplines of homoeopathy, acupuncture, crystal
healing, chelation therapy, colour therapy, the
Lumanetic emotional frequencies, flower remedies in Lumanetic form, the hormone frequencies – the list goes on and on. Lumanetic pads,
creams and liquids contain vibrations or energy
signatures, acting as frequency transceivers:
they deliver the required frequency-energy signature into the field of the person, and also bind
with toxins and neutralise them. Lumanetics are
not used to diagnose or even to address dysfunction, but to enhance the function of the
whole being and to enable the energy system to
metabolize light more effectively. In effect they
are light enhancers and coherence creators.
Images of power
VRIC images of ourselves can be shocking
and unbelievable because we have never seen
this aspect of ourselves in 'glorious Technicolor'.
They bypass the reasoning, linear mind and
speak directly and instantly to the part of us that
sees the truth – the non-linear, non-verbal
aspect of mind. You cannot explain them, nor
can they be denied. The message is simple,
direct and unequivocal.
Over the years I have seen people gasp with
shock and relief at making the acquaintance of a
side of themselves that they knew existed but
had never been able to see before. To see the
fragmented, suffering self in its simple truth and
then to have the relief and pleasure of seeing it
made whole again is an experience beyond
words. It is never to be forgotten.

life, to the future of our

simple Reality Code –
one that we can
change and upgrade by choice? Gregg
Braden proposes that our universe works
like a ‘Consciousness Computer', using a
language that we all have, yet are only just
beginning to understand: life's reality code is
based in the language of human emotion
and focused belief. So, in knowing that belief
is our reality-maker, the way we think of ourselves and our world is now more important
than ever! The Spontaneous Healing of
Belief shows us both the miracles that open
the door to a powerful new way of seeing
the world, and the science that tells us why
the miracles are possible. We are the architects of our experience: we can change the
world by changing ourselves.

The Calling
Thomas Moore
Mahud was a simple man who lived in a
small village and made his living by selling
vegetables at a busy market. He was comfortable enough and liked his work. But one
day the angel Khabir appeared to him and
told him to jump in the river. Without thinking
about it, Mahud leaped into the flowing water.
He was carried downstream until a man on
shore threw him a rope and pulled him out.
The man offered Mahud a job in his fishing
business and a small room where he could
live. Mahud appreciated the man’s kindness
and took the job and worked at it, rather happily, for three years. Then Khabir appeared to
him once more and told him to move on.
Mahud obeyed immediately and walked
from village to village until in one place a
man offered him a job in his fabric shop. This
was new to Mahud, but he took the job and
learned the trade and worked there relatively
happily until the angel appeared again and
sent him on. Mahud worked at odd jobs for
years in this manner, always moving along
when the angel instructed.
When Mahud was an old man, he had
gained the reputation of a holy man. People
began coming to him with their illnesses
and worries, begging him for cure and counsel. One day a visitor to his village asked
him, ‘Mahud, how did you get to where you
are now?’
Mahud thought for a moment and said, ‘It’s
difficult to say.’
Obedience to the call
It’s difficult to say because Mahud’s only
talent was his openness to the directives
coming from the angel whose name means
‘The All Aware’. Mahud had the precious ability to recognize the call to move on and the
openness of heart to follow it.
This is a story about calling and obedience
to the call. But let’s remember that at root
obedience means ‘listening’. To find your
way you have to pay close attention to the
signs about when to change your job, when
to get unstuck and re-enter the flow of life,
and when to retire to a life of healing and
teaching.
Unfortunately for us, perhaps, an angel isn’t
going to physically appear and tell us what to
do next. But the angel of the story does represent something that is real for all of us: a
sense of destiny, vocation, and direction. The
word vocation comes from the Latin word
vox, voice. A vocation is a call.
A calling is the sense that you are on this
earth for a reason, that you have a destiny,
no matter how great or small. Those who
look at life more soberly might question
whether such an attitude is warranted. It may
seem naive. But the sense of calling doesn’t
necessarily require belief in the supernatural
and it doesn’t have to be naive.
A calling is a sensation or intuition that life
wants something from you. It can give meaning to the smallest acts and helps create a
strong identity. If you have a reason for
being, you don’t feel entirely aimless. You
know who you are and what to do.

A LIFE AT WORK
Thomas Moore
The majority of us
will spend longer
each day in our
respective workplace than we will
at home. We all
want to enjoy our
professional lives,
but many people
feel dissatisfied at
work and ask ‘Why
am I doing what I'm doing?’ In A Life at
Work Thomas Moore blends spirituality
and psychology to address the strong
desire we have to feel fulfilled and satisfied by our work and careers. He explores
the obstacles and hardships of our own
making that we go through on our way to
discovering our deeper purpose. He also
shares the struggles of great thinkers and
artists who grappled with their own uncertainty before finding their calling, highlighting the timelessness of every individual's
quest to find happiness in their career. For
anyone who is questioning the professional path they have chosen, this poignant
and practical meditation will help them discover the answers.

it lacking in their own lives. Their problem
may be that they put too much wishfulness
into their belief, expecting life to serve them
their destiny in clear and concrete terms.
They may want specific direction without the
quest and search and sorting out that is also
part of the human condition.
Monks are forever talking about their vocation. They don’t talk about talents or wishes;
they speak of being called. Work that
requires complete dedication, like that of a
monk, is so vast in scope that a mere aptitude isn’t sufficient to explain a person’s
choice of profession. That could be true of a
doctor or politician who feels called to be of
service to humankind.
A sense of destiny
The story of Mahud suggests that any kind
of job is a calling, no matter how ordinary.
Maybe we elevate certain work, like that of
doctors and politicians, and refer to it as a
calling, overlooking the vocation to whatever
work is our destiny. Most of us live within relatively narrow perimeters and enjoy a small
life. There is beauty and satisfaction in that
smallness, partly because the least significant of lives can still have cosmic proportions
for the meaning and purpose they offer.
A person who shows special skill at a small
craft, such as making wooden bowls or simple jewellery, is engaged in universal values
of beauty and expressiveness. A bookkeeper
or an accountant plays a role in the financial
vitality of a community and even a nation.
Honesty and care are as important in small
things as they are in big things. A sense of
destiny gives profound significance
to the insignificant things we do.
It’s tempting to inflate the
notion of calling, to imagine it as
a great revelation on a mountaintop, a once-and-for-all pronouncement of
who we are and what we are to do. But
Mahud has several ‘callings’, which together
lead him to an unexpected ultimate life work:
healing, counselling, and holiness.
At the end, Mahud’s openness to his many
callings leads him to develop into a character
of extraordinary depth and power, so much
so that people come to him for help. He has
gathered together no coherent set of skills
from his work that would explain his effectiveness as a healer. Only his openness to
destiny has given him his ultimate life work,
and at that point it’s clear that the work he
has done has been not just simple labour,
but internal development of character. The
two are inseparable: the work that we do and
the opus of the soul.

THE LOST MAGIC OF CHRISTIANITY
Michael Poynder
The Lost Magic of Christianity is an intriguing study of the Ancient Wisdom Tradition,
and Essene and Celtic Christianity in Ireland
and the West. It unlocks the secrets of Stone
and Bronze Age metaphysics that influenced
the Gnostic practices of the early Christian
priesthood. These priests were seers, healers
and highly skilled astromathematicians,
expressing the oneness between human
beings, nature and the living spirit of the Christ principle. Michael
Poynder shows how this inner mythology and folk memory were subsequently taken from us by an unholy alliance between church and
state in order to gain greater control over the masses. With the help
of this book, much original wisdom is restored to us and we are able
to take personal responsibility for the expression of our divine self.

WALKING AN ANCIENT PATH:
REBIRTHING GODDESS ON PLANET
EARTH Karen Tate
The feminine face of god has been around for at
least thirty thousand years, long before the
human concept of a male god arose, yet the
Sacred Feminine has been obscured from our
cultures, religions and psyches for millennia.
Now we are starting to remember her roots and
origins, realising that she is the missing piece of
the spiritual, cultural and political puzzle that can
address human conditions of suffering and imbalance. Writing deep from the heart, Karen Tate’s enthusiasm, passion
for justice, and vision of love and enlightenment is personified in the
concepts of the Sacred Feminine. Thus she aids you, whether you are
new to or familiar with Goddess to travel around the world and across
history to reawaken this knowledge, to experience once again the nurturing arms of the Mother, and perhaps help humankind to save itself.

THE 13TH STEP Jude Currivan
In 1998, scientist, healer and mystic Jude Currivan
heard an inner message – a call to undertake a
global quest to activate the healing energies of
twelve ancient Lemurian artefacts around the
Earth, to support the collective shift of awareness
prophesied for 2012. But an even deeper purpose
began to unfold. For the native elders of indigenous traditions around the world say that in these
momentous times ‘we are the ones we have been
waiting for’. As did the heroes of myth, we are now
able to undertake a spiritual journey to remember
the wholeness of who we really are. The twelve activations and the opening of a galactic portal were completed at the December solstice of 2003.
But in 2006, a further call heralded a thirteenth healing journey... As we
approach 2012 and experience the birth pangs of a new age, The 13th
Step shares an inspirational message of hope and reconciliation. It offers
an empowering call for every one of us to embody our own divinity and
fulfil our highest purpose as the heroes of this transformation.

ARE YOU A MASTER OF LIGHT?
Louise Hopkinson & Jane White
Are You A Master of Light? is about how to work
with new energies from higher dimensions. The
book began as a journey of two friends who
together explored mysterious spiritual messages
conveyed to them over a period of two years. Why
was Louise’s car continually flooded by violet light?
Why did Jane see a circle of luminescent aquamarine before meditation? In exploring these questions, the authors found answers to many more,
including: Why are two new strands of colour beginning to show in rainbows? Who are the ascended masters and what do they want from us?
How can we use the power of the violet flame? What new energies are
reaching the earth at this time, and how is our chakra system changing?
What are the merkabah and the light body? Helping us with affirmations,
decrees and invocations, the authors also explain how we can ‘remember’
that we are masters of light, and how we can connect with the ascended
masters so that we can live our own ascension now.

UNDERSTANDING THE FUTURE
Lyn Birkbeck
Hold on tight, because the next dozen years
are set to be the most momentous of our lives,
explains astrologer Lyn Birkbeck. As humanity
stands at the crossroads between a descent
into dark materialism and the spiritual path
back to the light, a great cosmic event is forcing this elemental choice upon us. Lyn reveals
that the present alignment of Uranus and Pluto
with the Earth has set in motion a powerful
Planet-Wave, which will peak from 2012 to
2014, heralding an amazing opportunity to forge our destinies. He
demonstrates how we can apply our mind-power to the very real
influences of this Planet-Wave, enabling us to make the ‘course corrections’ vital to our own well-being, and that of our world. This powerful manual – a treasure trove of astrological information – shows
how we can ride this wave into a future of true prosperity.

A Little Light on
Bees Diana Cooper
I have fond memories of
sitting on golden days in
sweet smelling summer
meadows full of wild flowers of every colour and
description. These
drowsy afternoons were
accompanied by the distinctive buzz of fat bumble bees in their yellow
and black coats. And there were always dozens
of small, dowdy but industrious honey bees busy
at their tasks.
Now the bees are quietly vanishing.
Recently, when I was in Findhorn, the great
spiritual ecological community founded by Eileen
Caddy, a bee keeper quoted Albert Einstein as
saying that when the bees left, human life must
cease within four years. We rely on bees for pollinating all our flowers, vegetable plants and trees
that make our existence possible. A few days
later I picked up my well thumbed copy of 21st
Century Smallholder by Paul Waddington for
guidance about my small vegetable garden. I
opened the book randomly and read that Albert
Einstein is supposed to have said that without
bees, there is no life. My attention was drawn to
the importance of bees twice in one week.
Bees originate from the Pleiades, one of the
first service creatures to incarnate in the golden
era of Atlantis. I talk about them and other creatures in Discover Atlantis. They came to Earth to
learn about the sweetness of life and to serve by
pollinating flowers. They teach us about aspects
of sacred geometry and offer an understanding of
ordered community life and harmonious industry.
Their soul purpose then, as now was to see if
they could take on a physical body and still maintain their divinity. In the early times of Golden
Atlantis, the fifteen hundred year period when the
frequency was the highest it has ever been, it
was easy to do this by loving all species and
themselves. Humans and animals honoured and
served each other and people were deeply grateful to the bees for providing them with occasional
treats of honey. Bees were wild and free and did
not need stings for they never needed to defend
themselves.
Now humans have drenched the land with toxin
chemicals and have commercialised the product
of these beautiful, hard working little beings. We
have consistently taken too much of their honey,
which they produce to keep themselves strong
and healthy over the winter months. This has
depleted their physical reserves, leaving them
prey to the varroa destructor mite, and diminished
their will to co-create life on Earth with us. As a
result many bees are simply withdrawing.
Colonies are just not returning to their hives in the
spring and the reason for this is often described
as a mystery.
Even in Findhorn where they garden organically
and love and respect the bees, leaving them with
most of their honey, the bees are succumbing. To
me this means that the stress is now deep in the
collective unconscious of the bees.
So what can we do?
As we all know the glue that makes us all part of
the Oneness is love. Your consciousness impacts
on and can profoundly affect the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies of all beings. If
all people of good intent on the planet took
responsibility for their thoughts and emotions, and
directed them towards perfect health and well
being for all, the consciousness of our world
would rise overnight. There would be dramatic
changes and our planet would become a congenial place for all, including bees, who would thrive.
You can make a difference. If you sat down for
a few minutes each day and envisioned the bees
happy, healthy and free, your vision would link
with all the other positive pictures and send a
message of hope and encouragement to all creatures of the world, not just the bees.

THE SHAMANIC
WAY OF THE BEE
Simon Buxton
Bee shaman Simon
Buxton recounts the
enthralling story of his
apprenticeship with
Bridge, a beekeeper
and master of the
Path of Pollen, whom
Buxton describes as
living ‘simultaneously
in the past, present, and the future, a bridge
across, through and outside the circles of
time’. In The Shamanic Way of the Bee, we
follow Buxton through an intense initiation that
opened him to the mysteries of the hive mind,
and through his experiences over the next thirteen years as he learned the practices, rituals
and tools of bee shamanism. What he has to

How spiritual connections help
Our physical third dimensional world is interpenetrated by beings of other dimensions, many of
whom look after us. Most of you know that a
guardian angel holds your divine blueprint and
watches over you. You also have an overlighting
Archangel who keeps an eye on you, to say nothing of many other angels, unicorns and beings of
light who are waiting to help. You can always ask
someone’s guardian angel to lighten their burden,
open doors or care for them in one of many
ways. Your prayer then acts as grace and raises
the frequency round the person in need, allowing
their angel to step closer to them.
Bees and their spiritual connections
All creatures receive spiritual guidance and
assistance. The bees work very closely with pixies, who are earth elementals. Pixies look after
the structure of soil and also help the bees to get
flowers pollinated. In turn imps, who are tiny little
1” or 2.5cm tall elementals of combined earth, air
and water, work with pixies. On a more cosmic
level Lady Gaia, is in charge of the earth of the
planet and her soul encapsulates Earth. She is
one of the highest of the angelic hierarchy and
she consults with the elemental masters and
gives commands to the elementals, including the
pixies. Kathy Crosswell and I briefly discuss the
tasks of each of the elementals in Enlightenment
Through Orbs and share how we can work with
them to change the current situation.
Every time you send love, encouragement,
thanks and kindness to the pixies they will be
able more effectively to help the wonderful, life
giving bees. Your gratitude and blessings will
touch their souls and help our world.
Gratitude prayer to the bees
Dear Bees,
Thank you so much for helping all the creatures
on Earth. I recognise how much you do to pollinate the plants and thus enable our world to survive and thrive. Thank you. May you be blessed
with love and health. So be it. It is done.
Visualisation
1. Light a candle.
2. Picture the bees, happy, respected, thriving
and swarming back to their hives.
3. Visualise people everywhere truly appreciating
them.
4. See the pixies laughing as they help the bees
to pollinate the plants throughout the world.
5. Imagine them all bathed in beautiful pink love.
6. Blow out the candle and send the light to the
bees and pixies.

Good Vibrations
Judy Hall
It is many years
since I first proposed the title
Good Vibrations for
a book on psychic
protection
because, to me, it
summed up something we all need.
Someone else was going to use the title but
the other book never materialised. So when
writing a new book that encompassed so
much more than psychic protection, I felt it
was time to bring good vibes into all our lives.
Personal and environmental energy
enhancement is, to my mind, the single most
important step you can take to keep yourself
healthy, happy and whole. All my teachings
come out of what I personally have had to
deal with or through supporting friends and
clients on their journey, an on-going process.
That’s why I returned to this subject to gain
deeper insights, create new techniques, polish
up some old ones, and introduce new tools:
crystals, flower essences and Crystal Tapping.
Psychic protection
I included tried and tested favourites as I
have not yet found anything to better them.
One of the first protection techniques I ever
learned, for instance, was to picture jumping
into a shiny new dustbin and pulling the lid
down whenever negativity was around. I still
use this image and see no reason to change
it. It’s fast, effective – and free. The same
applies to cord cutting which I’ve used for
over thirty five years and still feel is the best
tool for improving relationships or setting yourself free from one past its sell-by date.
Notwithstanding I now realise how important it
is to check for cords and hooks located in the
subtle bodies and higher chakras at a surprisingly high vibratory level so that technique has
been expanded to dissolve those cords too.
As you may know, all around us are unseen
vibrations, imperceptible emanations, subtle
and not so subtle energy fields – do you live
near a Tetra mast for instance? We are surrounded by thoughts and feelings, imprints
and impressions that subtly affect well being or
can feel like attack. Although it may seem fanciful to suppose that such things have a physical effect, we have only to remember that for
hundreds of years people have associated
their ears burning with being talked about and
today scientists can prove that thought has a
physiological effect on someone many miles
10 www.cygnus-books.co.uk
away, to know that this effect is real.
If you realise the above and yet are still
attracting negativity or experiencing toxicity in
your body, there is probably something at a
deeper level you’ve not yet sussed. So bless
and thank the person who has brought it to
your attention, let them go and turn your
attention – and intention – inwards towards
the source.
Look at your thoughts and beliefs. If you put
out fearful or needy vibes, you attract back
aggression or rejection, perpetuating a vicious
cycle of dependency and insecurity. If you
work with people who are needy or disturbed,
it is all too easy to absorb their dis-ease
because it resonates with your own. If you are
over-sensitive or if your energy field is ‘holey’,
there is no defence against invasive vibes.
Healing psychic mugging
This technique is so new it hasn’t made
its way into the book yet. It uses Tugtupite,
a heart protector from Greenland but Rose
Quartz or Rhodochrosite would be equally
effective. It was a first aid measure for
someone who was psychically mugged but
you can use it whenever anything slams
into your heart.
Hold a piece of cleansed Tugtupite* over
your higher heart chakra, in the centre of
your chest a hand’s breadth or so below
your collar bones. Ask the Tugtupite to dissolve the hurt and anything that may have
attached with the blow to your heart and to
replace it with unconditional loving energy.
Keep the stone in place until your heart
feels eased and then ask it to close the
auric hole before you remove the stone.
*Tugtupite is best cleansed with Petaltone
Clear Light www.petaltone.co.uk ,or other
crystal cleanser.
In extreme cases, these can make you ill, or
mentally or emotionally distressed. Disease
can, after all, be written dis-ease and, as we
know, many illnesses are actually energetic
disturbance.
Recognise that your emotions attract other
people's feelings. Your thoughts draw their
thoughts. Your expectations, beliefs and feelings create situations and experiences. If you
have positive expectations and good intention,
only the best can manifest. But if you are
angry, you are likely to get into a fight of one
sort or another, have an accident or injure
yourself. If you are depressed, people dump
their troubles on you making you feel worse. If
you have toxic thoughts they create a toxic
environment and your body becomes toxic too.
Living within serenity
Thoughts and emotions produce subconscious destructive reactions that can appear to
FOR OUR FULL RANGE OF MORE THAN 1200 TITLES
be an external attack. If you do not trust yourself at a deep level, people and events exacerbate your mistrust. If your energy field is scattered with no clear boundary, you become
enmeshed with other people. Stress is recognised as a creator of illness but disharmony
also arises from the way you manage your life,
including allowing other people to have undue
influence over you, and from your own negative thoughts and emotions.
But if you take control of your thoughts and
your energy field and remember to cleanse it
and the space you inhabit regularly, you radiate and live within serenity and inner peace.
When you are no longer toxic, the people and
situations you attract will not be toxic either.
After all, like attracts like. Intention is a powerful creative tool that anyone can use: it manifests the reality you wish to experience.
Combining good intention with energy
enhancement literally creates miracles.
Ultimately, the best enhancement of all is to
literally rise above it, making your vibrations
as bright and high as possible so that nothing
sticks, nothing negative touches you, you are
invincible – and when that happens, please
pass Good Vibrations on to others.

A TIME TO HEAL Beata Bishop
A Time to Heal is the inspiring and entertaining story of Beata Bishop’s triumphant passage through life-threatening disease – cancer
– to whole, lasting cure (not just remission),
via the remarkable alternative approach of
Gerson Therapy. Instead of concentrating on
eradicating the tumour by surgery, radio- or
chemotherapy, the Gerson regime regards the
tumour as the symptom of a deeper underlying
disease condition involving the entire being.
The therapy aims to heal by building up the
body’s immune system, so that it can restore itself. This aim is
achieved through a strict regime of organic raw fruit and vegetable
juices, vegetarian meals, non-toxic medication and powerful detoxification. In A Time to Heal, Beata shares every aspect of her experience – spiritual as well as physical and emotional – with a sensitivity

THE RECONNECTION Dr Eric Pearl
Why are prominent doctors and medical
researchers all over the world interested in the
extraordinary healings reported by the patients of
Dr Eric Pearl? What does it mean when these
patients report the sudden disappearance of
afflictions such as cancers, AIDS-related diseases, and cerebral palsy? And what does it

have to reconsider everything you’ve read until now about conventional
healing. The ‘new’ frequencies of healing described by Dr Pearl transcend ‘technique’ entirely and bring you to levels beyond those previously accessible to anyone. This book takes you on Eric Pearl’s journey

The Gift of Change
Marianne Williamson
The times in which we live are difficult, more
difficult than a lot of people seem willing to
admit. There is an abiding sense of collective
anxiety, understandable but not always easy
to talk about.
When things aren't going well for you in
your personal life, perhaps you call a friend
or family member or go to a therapist or
support group to process your pain. Yet
when your feelings of upset are based on
larger social realities, it's hard to know how
to talk about them, and to whom. When
you're afraid because you don't know where
your next pay cheque is going to come
from, it's easy to articulate; when you're
worried about whether the human race is
going to survive the next century, it feels
odd to mention it at lunch.
Collective depression
And so, I think, there is a collective depression among us, not so much dealt with as
glossed over and suppressed. Each of us, as
individual actors in a larger drama, carries an
imprint of a larger despair. We are coping
with intense amounts of chaos and fear, both
personally and together. We are all being
challenged, in one form or another, to recreate our lives.
On the level of everyday conversation, we
conspire with each other to pretend that
things are basically okay, not because we
think they are but because we have no way
of talking together about these deeper layers of experience. If I tell you what happened in my personal life today, I might also
mention how I am feeling about it, and both
are considered relevant. But when it comes
to our collective experience, public dialogue
allows for little discussion of events of
equally personal magnitude. ‘We accidentally bombed a school today, and fifty children
died.' How do we feel about that? Uh-oh,
we don’t go there...
So we continue to talk mainly about other
things, at a time when the news of the day is
as critical as at any time in the history of the
world. Not dealing with our internal depths,
we emphasize external superficialities.
Reports on the horrors of war appear intermittently between reports on box office
receipts for the latest blockbuster movie and
a Hollywood actress's vintage Valentino. I
see the same behaviour in myself, as I jump
from writing about things that demand I dig
deep to obsessively checking my e-mails for
12 www.cygnus-books.co.uk
something light and fun to distract me. It's
like avoidance behaviour in therapy – wanting to share the gossip but not wanting to
deal with the real, more painful issues. Of
course we want to avoid the pain. But by
doing so, we inevitably cause more of it.
That is where we are today. We are acting
out our anger and fear because we are not
facing the depth of our pain. And keeping the
conversation shallow seems a prerequisite
for keeping the pain at bay. Those who would
engage in a deeper conversation are systematically barred from the mainstream: from
newspapers and magazines, from TV, and
especially from political power.

THE GIFT OF
CHANGE
Marianne
Williamson
Honest and inspiring, The Gift of
Change is
Marianne
Williamson’s potent
answer to our most
burning question:
What must we do
to free our planet
from the chains of greed and exploitation?
Faced with such apparently gargantuan
forces, can our spiritual values really be of
any practical use? Marianne reminds us that
each one of us is on earth at this time precisely because we carry within us all the talents, all the wisdom, all the power we could
possibly need to bring our planet and ourselves through this difficult transition – and
out into the light of a New Day. So how do
we mobilize these hidden resources, now
that we need them so very much? Beautiful
and eloquent, Marianne Williamson’s book

‘I'm okay,’ I said. ‘But I feel like everybody
is freaking out on the inside these days;
we’re just not talking about it. I think the state
of the world has us more on edge than we're
admitting.’
‘I think that's true,’ he sighed. ‘Things would
get bad before, but you always had a sense
they would ultimately be okay. Now I don't
necessarily feel that way...’ His voice trailed
off, his sadness obvious. As unhappy as he
was with the state of the world, he seemed
FOR OUR FULL RANGE OF MORE THAN 1200 TITLES
grateful I had brought it up. The fact that we
go about our lives as though the survival of
the world is not at stake is not the sign of a
stiff upper lip. It is the sign, rather, of a society not yet able or willing to hold a conversation about its deepest pain.
Becoming the change
We are being challenged by world events,
by the tides of history, to develop a more
mature consciousness. Yet we cannot do that
without facing what hurts. Life is not a piece
of tragic fiction, in which at the end of the
reading we all get up and go out for drinks. All
of us are actors in a great unfolding drama,
and until we dig deep, there will be no great
performances. How each of us carries out our
role will affect the end of the play.
Who we ourselves become, how we grow
and change and face the challenges of our
own lives, is intimately and causally connected to how the world will change over
the next few years. For the world is a projection of our individual psyches, collected
on a global screen; it is hurt or healed by
every thought we think. To whatever extent I
refuse to face the deeper issues that hold
me back, to that extent the world will be
held back. And to whatever extent I find the
miraculous key to the transformation of my
own life, to that extent I will help change the
world. That is what my book, The Gift of
Change, is about: becoming the change that
will change the world.
Yet we seem to have great resistance to
looking at our lives, and our world, with emotional honesty. And I think we are avoiding
more than pain. We are avoiding the sense
of hopelessness we think we will feel when
confronted by the enormity of the forces that
obstruct us. Yet, in fact, it's when we face the
darkness squarely in the eye – in
ourselves and in the world –
that we begin at last to see the
light. And that is the alchemy of
personal transformation. In the midst of the
deepest, darkest night, when we feel most
humbled by life, the faint shadow of our
wings begins to appear. Only when we have
faced the limits of what we can do, does it
begin to dawn on us the limitlessness of
what God can do. It is the depth of the darkness now confronting our world that will
reveal to us the magic of who we truly are.
We are spirit, and thus we are more than the
world. When we remember that, the world
itself will bow to our remembrance.

Asking, loving
Pierre Pradervand
Soon I will be celebrating
the anniversary of a
rather important date in
my life – the time I dared
to start thinking for
myself. This, in turn, led
to the most profound
changes in my life. And
to ever more impertinent
questions initiating ever more fundamental
changes in a long chain that has yet to end...
For one who was brought up with the most
profound respect for all forms of authority, from
the local policeman to the gardener, from my
father to God, that was no mean thing. This
whole questioning thing started when I was
close to seventeen. Bedridden for some unremembered reason, I read a book pleading the
Christian case for pacifism.
Now, a good question is like a very efficient
drill. Once it has made a nice, clean, deep hole,
you tell yourself it can probably make another
one... and another one, and so on. The French
philosopher Blaise Pascal once wrote, ‘Woe
unto that man who, at least once in his life, has
not questioned everything.’
Over the years, I went through an accelerating – and sometimes excruciating – process of
challenging accepted views which left no altar
untouched, no stone unturned. It caused me to
leave my childhood church, my country, my values, radically alter my political beliefs, even my
profession. For, as I discovered in Africa, what
my sociology professors in Europe had taught
me as ‘scientific’ research methods, turned out
to be a pair of extremely narrow, Cartesian
coloured glasses offering a supremely shrivelled view of what my former professional tribe
terms ‘social reality’.
Freeing the ‘mind-cuffs’ of dogma
Yet, however rough the ride, I was slowly and
quite unbeknownst even to myself, developing
that uniquely precious privilege: the courage to
think for myself.
In a world where ideologies are gnawed by
the relentless worm of time; where almost
everything is changing, very rapidly and on a
worldwide level, in a world where, to quote a
leading scientist, ‘The scientific truth of today is
the error of tomorrow’ and in the world where
the multiplication and ever accelerating flow of
information transforms the very concept of
materially or scientifically established ‘facts’ into
tenuous, temporary hypotheses; it is useful and
most necessary to be able to think for oneself,
untrammelled by the ‘mind-cuffs’ of narrow
creed or hardened dogma.
No doubt you will often be alone on this initial-

ly steep path. Most people prefer the intellectually less arresting position of a hard-boiled egg
at the bottom of a picnic basket, content to
doze mentally in the shade. And you will but
rarely find the sister-soul to share your highest
visions – and so it should be. Nor should you
attempt to share the unbroken horizons of your
inner ocean with those who have dwelt a whole
lifetime at the bottom of a well.
An unwavering truth
During all my years of searching, strangely
enough, there was one belief system I did not
even think of challenging till much later on in
life, and that was the positivistic scientific belief
that we can only discover ‘reality’ via experiments that can be duplicated, based on information given to us by the senses.

JONATHAN
LIVINGSTON
SEAGULL
Richard Bach
‘You will begin to
touch heaven,
Jonathan, in the
moment that you
touch perfect speed.
And that isn’t flying a
thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying
at the speed of light. Because any number is
a limit, and perfection doesn’t have limits.
Perfect speed, my son, is being there.’
You probably already own a copy of this
book, but we thought you might like to give
one to a friend. Teenagers would like it, too.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a simple,
yet profoundly inspiring parable. The theme
is age-old, yet the story is unique. It’s about
a seagull who learns to fly – yes, really fly –
to soar above the herd-consciousness of his
fellow gulls and find true freedom. And it’s
about the impulse towards genuine love and
sharing, always inspired by any encounter
with what is truly REAL.

The day a profound and challenging book of
metaphysics made me question that belief –
well, all the precedent eruptions, intellectual
earthquakes and nightlong anguished searchings appeared in comparison like Sunday
School outings. Yet that questioning, once
weathered, was also the one that brought with
it lasting peace.
During all those years of questioning, doubting
and wandering, one truth stood out, unwavering,
unshaken (albeit at moments very dimmed) by
the relentless tornadoes of questions, doubts,
human mockery, death, hunger, famine and a
thousand other gaunt spectres. And that truth
was love. Love which I discovered to be the
only reality in the universe and is at the same

time its own cause, means and end.
For years, in Africa I saw children rummage in
my garbage can. The ‘why such injustice?’ very
quickly became, ‘Is my love deep and fervent
enough to dedicate my whole life to building a
world where the economy is motivated by service and cooperation rather than profit, greed
and competition?’
In a world which appears plagued by everincreasing uncertainty by the hollow chameleon
of consumerism, where both prophets of
despair and sanity speak of the world’s possible annihilation, in such a world, the highest
form of the courage to think for oneself may
well be the courage to love despite all appearances – to love more intelligently, more compassionately and finally – yes, more joyfully.

MONEY CAN HEAL Siegfried E Finser
Exploring the wonders of every kind of monetary transaction, Siegfried Finser reveals how
all transactions interact with the human psyche. Having evolved through the ages, money
is no longer an object so much as it has
become a ‘worldwind’ of circulation, moving at
various speeds and achieving a myriad of
results. Our human intentions give money its
qualities and determine its speed and its effect
on people everywhere. From object to pure
abstract movement, money is now poised to serve our highest goals.
As we have nurtured money in its evolution, we must now take
responsibility for directing its great potential in transforming social life,
thereby bringing healing to the world. Money Can Heal shows a way
beyond money as ‘a thing one acquires’ toward money as ‘movement’
among human souls. You’ll never see money the same way again.

THE FORGIVENESS FORMULA
Kathleen Griffin
If you’ve ever been deeply hurt by the actions of
others, you’ll know that letting go and forgiving
does not come easily, no matter how much you
may want to do it. That’s why we really like The
Forgiveness Formula, a practical and innovative approach to confronting and letting go of
the pain and anger caused by trauma and
betrayal in our lives. By showing us what happens when we don’t forgive and taking us stepby-step through the process, Kathleen Griffin
helps us re-map our world, finding a new freedom and lightness to
move on. She discusses the place of restitution and justice in forgiving,
the importance of forgiving and remembering, and, perhaps most
importantly, how we must learn to forgive ourselves. Written by someone who has actually experienced great trauma herself, The
Forgiveness Formula provides a workable framework for creating a
more fulfilling, liberated and empowered way to live our lives. However
much we have suffered, our past does not have to define our future.

AN UNLIKELY PROPHET
Alvin Schwartz
We've always felt there was an intensely
spiritual message behind the story of
Superman – the superhero who appears
weak yet is actually amazingly strong; who
seems ineffective but is in reality capable of
transforming the most dire situations into
happy ones. Isn't that how we all are, deep
down, if we did but know it? So imagine how
pleased we were to find out that Alvin
Schwartz, author of the earliest Superman
comics that came out back in the 1940s and 50s, actually intended the
Superman stories to convey this message. In this utterly enthralling
blend of personal memoir, allegory and spiritual wisdom, Schwartz
takes you through his lifelong journey of discovery about why the
Superman character he thought he was 'creating' actually seemed to
have a life of its own, and why it exerted such an extraordinary compulsion over him. To help his message unfold, he introduces the character
of a seven-foot Buddhist monk named Thongden. Thongden introduces
himself as a tulpa, a being who has been thought into existence by a
Tibetan mystic. Thongden becomes Schwartz's teacher and, by leading
him through a whole series of extraordinary experiences, finally reveals
to him the true nature of the Self, and also the true nature of
Superman. It's a brilliant book. You'll love it!

SIGNPOSTS Denise Linn
Whether we are conscious of it or not, the universe is communicating to us through signs,
says Denise Linn. Native peoples have always
known how to interpret these powerful messages, but with the development of technology
and so on, we in the West have largely forgotten how to use this aspect of our intuition.
Drawing upon her Cherokee Indian heritage
and her experience with the native tribes of
Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Denise
Linn helps us to reconnect with the magic of
our inner selves so that we may interpret these signs and use what we
learn to make the right decisions and choices in our lives.

Flying by the seat of
our pants towards
climate chaos
Maddy Harland
By the time you
read this
month’s column
I will have been
away on holiday
with my family
and friends,
perhaps one of
the most controversial activities someone
seeking to live
a simpler, lower carbon lifestyle could do!
I am reminded of a recent encounter whilst
shopping in my local Co-op when I met a
member of our local green group. This
group was set up to encourage our community to reduce its carbon footprint by simple
actions like putting better insulation into the
loft, turning down the heat and other easy
actions. The subtext behind the campaign is
to build community awareness and work
towards more far-reaching actions but it is
one step at a time for us. We aren’t too
funky in this part of Hampshire. Anyway, my
friend updated me on the latest news from
the group and then proceeded to tell me all
about his forthcoming holiday in Costa Rica.
It sounded wonderful, even enviable… but I
couldn’t help registering the irony of
installing low energy light bulbs to cut carbon and then flying off to Central America.
There are many compelling reasons for
not flying. Plane Stupid1, the campaign
organisation, can elaborate but here are just
a few. For the health conscious amongst
you, Heathrow airport is already breaching
UK and EU legal limits for the high levels of
nitrogen dioxide and therefore the present
growth in the number of flights is probably
unlawful.
Aviation’s contribution to climate change
But the most critical factor for me is that
aviation is the fastest growing cause of climate change. Despite myths propagated by
the airline industry, aviation already
accounts for 13% of the UK’s contribution to
climate change yet it is only the 26th
biggest industry in Britain. To make matters
worse, aviation is the UK's fastest-growing
source of greenhouse-gas emissions. We
could close every factory, lock away every
car and turn off every light in the country,
but it won't halt global warming if we carry
on taking planes as often as we do.
These are stark statistics but offer a
conservative estimate of the damage
contributed by aviation, since they only
count flights departing the UK – not those
returning!

WHAT ABOUT
CHINA?
Alastair Sawday
et al
This wonderful
book deserves
all the praise we
can heap on it,
and much more:
it could make
such an impression on you and
the way you live, indeed, the way we all
live. We are all guilty of making excuses
not to change our lifestyles, especially
when it comes to global warming and climate change – travel, recycling, food,
energy, waste and finance, too. That’s
why What About China? is such a valuable book: it flips the excuses on their
heads, giving cogent, informative and
entertaining answers to the questions we
must not hide behind. From the common
– Why should we reduce our use of plastic bags?, to the complex – What about
nuclear fusion? and the controversial –
What is the point of doing anything, when
China opens a new power station every
week? – the positive responses are sure
to motivate and inspire you to action. So,
not only does it dispel the myths that we
all try to use to justify the way we live
and to avoid change, it gives the encouragement that everyone needs in order to
make a difference.

The UK’s top climatologists predict that
aviation’s emissions alone are predicted to
exceed the government’s target for the
country’s entire output of greenhouse gases
in 2050 by around 134%. (Tyndall Centre
for Climate Change Research)
Lastly, aviation is often unnecessary. 45%
of air journeys in Europe are less than
FREE POSTAGE on orders of £40 or more!
500km – about the distance from London to
the Scottish border. These journeys are to
destinations easily reachable by train and
bus, which are both around ten times less
polluting. The trouble is, it’s a money thing.
It costs hundreds of pounds to travel by
train abroad and comparatively nothing by
budget airline. Yet I learn that it’s the affluent who are really benefiting from the artificially low prices of air travel. The average
income of people using Stansted Airport is
£47,000 per year.
Let’s put this in context: according to the
Green New Deal group (whose members
include former Friends of the Earth UK
director Tony Juniper, Green MEP Caroline
Lucas and Andrew Simms, policy director of
the New Economics Foundation) we only
have 100 months to prevent dangerous
global warming. They say a ‘Green New
Deal’ is needed to solve current problems of
climate change, energy and finance. The
group’s proposals include major investment
in renewable energy and the creation of
thousands of new ‘green collar’ jobs.
Communion with our island
So things are getting very serious.
Meanwhile, most of us work far harder and
for longer hours than many in previous generations and we need holidays. This is very
difficult territory for all of us. I love warm
seas and good weather but I also cannot
reconcile my conscience with flying for
pleasure. I also love train journeys and our
wild places in Britain. My current holidays
consist of camping in those wild places in
Britain, escaping mobile phone signals, TVs
and computer technology and putting on a
wetsuit to brave the cool waters of the
Atlantic. If we get sunny days it is
a wonderful bonus but mainly I
just pray for not too much rain.
My future plans include train
journeys to Europe to explore art
and architecture or ferry rides to islands on
the Celtic fringes of our country. It is not as
exotic as Costa Rica but there is something
very meditative and spiritually refreshing
about walking in our native landscapes,
exploring our more ancient sites and communing with underlying culture of our beautiful island. I am not exemplary but I just
can’t justify flying on holiday anymore.
Much love, Maddy

Adventures of the Soul
Are You Willing to Explore?
I know that somewhere on the brink of vision
In the unreality where earth meets sky
All knowledge is.
I know that in the depths of the oceans
Or in a starry night sky
Is a doorway to all that is.
A new perspective, the next dimension,
That can almost be touched.
It is here, now. The door is open.
Are you willing to explore?
future darkness walked into.
The threshold is taken. I walk under the archway,
past the goddess, past her illumination,
and feel the poppy-given weight of sleep.
Sleep of the initiate; of the dead; of the chrysalis,
awaiting a change, a transformation,
a rebirth to rise from butterfly wings.
Years fall past. I emerge white-clothed, dark-eyed
– lost, following the silver thread
that spins and falls from its own distaff
through the labyrinth of searching.
There is the tree! Virgin, belonging to no man.
In its branches the moon, Mother of the Sky, sits
weaving her silver cloth amongst weft of wood.

Bless Our Indomitable Souls
If we come to earth consciously from heavenly
realms then we’re either fundamentally insane, or,
we’ve inescapably adventurous souls, because
we all dare enter a place full of danger and
unknown outcomes.
My soul’s latest adventure started when thrown
into incognizance from the warm, nurturing nest of
home, landing defiantly on this harsh planet –
fearful, bewildered and desperately homesick. My
offenders relayed to me with compassion that this
was necessary for the interests of my soul’s
purpose; that they couldn’t intervene, only watch
empathetically the intense unhappiness I
experienced in the first episodes of life.
How can the soul enjoy adventuring in a
soulless, dehumanising environment such as I
found myself in, where to breathe is a crime, to
exist a punishable offence?.... It cannot; instead,
from necessity, compulsory searching in the dark
night of the soul befalls. Innate spirit activates
deep critical examination of the inner and outer
world as it appears in all its madness, attempting
to crystallise an escape route for survival.
Without normalcy to compare with and nothing
perceivable to lose, the soul is game for anything;
exploring boldly, indiscriminately, any experience
that might shed light on personal peace and
meaning. Hence, from that black hole evolved a
cornucopia of extreme, incongruous, adventures,
encompassing sexuality, drugs, crime, and being
almost murdered. A crash course in abundant
unpleasantness!
.... A clever strategy indeed, because only
complete saturation of the unrewarding enabled
my inquisitive, indomitable soul to piece together
what I like and deserve, and to recognise my gifts,
true qualities, and potential.

Homeward bound
‘Go towards the Light. You are safe. You are
very much loved. It is okay, just go towards the
Light.’ Those were the last words I spoke to my
Mum. Only she was not there. She had passed
away alone sometime in the early hours of that
Wednesday.
Now, as midnight drew near, I was called to be
witness to a sacred moment. Calling my partner to
help investigate why music was coming from a
guest room not frequently used, we semi-joked
that it was my Mum saying hello! The tune was
Magical Atmosphere!
Within a few minutes I knew the real reason. As
we listened, the cd started to skip wildly. My
partner’s face was like stone and he was about as
warm. He was whimpering and as I held him, he
started to sob uncontrollably. Then, in a voice not
his own, came the plea, ‘I am so afraid, help me!’
which echoed my mother’s words latterly.
Holding him as he rocked, groaned, yelled and
called out I could only reassure and guide what I
sensed to be the passing of her soul towards
waiting comfort and peace. The music finally
returning to normal, 45 minutes later, so did he as
he went limp in my arms and puzzled why I was
holding him so tightly.
Anna-Louise ‘Krisayah’ Haigh
Pilgrim’s Progress
At the midnight hour they brought me
To a bleak crossways,
where I chose the desolate road
Though I knew it was hard. The forest was dark
Cawing with rook and raven under a pallid sky
Beyond the woods I came to an arid desert
Where only crooked trees
Broke the selvedge between heaven and earth
No sustenance, no comfort
Only a faint memory of the rod and the staff
Of my mentors hidden in their cloak of destiny
I looked for signposts constantly,
For angelic fingers pointing my direction home
Until the dust of broken parchments
Hardly visible, skirted my feet, chanted
An ancient tune, scarcely audible
And gathered my senses into a storm.
The wind took me like a matchstick
Lifted me to a mountain top
And showed me a trail
Of golden letters shining like sequins
Under the sun, leading me on
Across the seemingly endless sand
Until, at last I came to my house
With its garden of sweet roses
And I surrendered my dusty garments
And curled myself into the angel’s hand.
Theolyn Cortens
The Perfect Shell
The sun beat down from the azure sky. Even in
the early morning, its power made itself known to
all that felt its rays. The soft surf gently lapped at
my feet as I nonchalantly paddled in the frothy
surge beneath me. Above me the Frigate bird,
wings outstretched, languidly floated on the
thermal that caressed its flight. As the palms
waved their salutations, I had to remind myself
that this was no fantastical dream that I would be
slow to relinquish to the dawn of a cold English
morning. I was actually here, marvelling at the
scene before me. This tropical wonder that
stormed my senses, with a sensory overload of
joy, pervaded my being.
I began to observe the myriad of shells that
crunched beneath my feet and tickled my toes in
the shifting sand. I commenced searching
aimlessly at first and then with more deliberation
for just the right souvenir to capture the splendour
of the Island and my brief sojourn in Paradise. I
stooped to examine each one that caught my
attention, only to discard for a crack, or some lack
of brilliance. This abalone was just a shard of
pearlescent light. This little clam had a broken
edge. This pattern was not quite uniform enough.
Enough! Who was I to judge nature’s perfect
imperfections? Who was I to condemn with all my
perceived frailties? Like the glorious island
sunrise, it dawned on me that I was but a tiny
shell on life’s shoreline, to be loved for all my
imperfections. Not judged or graded, but to be
celebrated, cherished, honoured and revered as
should every living organism on this beautiful
planet. If we but ditch our disdain, jettison our
judgmentalism, curb our condemnations, free our
spirit, and release our souls, accepting our
magnificence, in the glory of creation.
