“Where the mountains meet the
prairie” is more than a charming
saying; it depicts Waterton perfectly.
This area is one of the only places in
the eastern slopes where native shortgrass prairie runs right up the side
of the Rocky Mountains. Join Alpine
stables on a 1.5-hour interpretive
guided ride out across the prairie
and into the forest for a unique and
intimate look at exactly what makes
this places so special!

Head into the Classroom
with the Calgary Zoo’s
Botanical Education Programs
Botanical Illustration
Over the past 20 years, Botanical Illustration has experienced
a remarkable renaissance as a widely accepted and collectible
art form. The need to conform to botanical accuracy in plant
portraiture remains a vital part of contemporary works.
The Calgary Zoo’s gardens, with the new classroom in
the ENMAX Conservatory offer a perfect venue for this
wonderful integration of science and art. For the more serious
student of art, these classes offer a chance to learn from an
expert. Margaret Best (www.bestbotanical.com) is renowned
for her very popular courses, and we’re thrilled to be able to
offer them in Calgary. Please see our website for upcoming
courses this summer and fall.
Perennial Trial Gardens - Talk and Tour
Looking to reduce the guesswork when choosing plants for
your garden? The zoo’s Dorothy Harvie Gardens are home

Join the zoo’s Perennial Trials Coordinator for a guided tour
through the plants in the trial gardens for this summer.
Date:
Thursday, August 26
Time:
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
