CEO
Welcome
C
.ex Group have been naming
rights sponsors of C.ex Coffs
International Stadium for 12
months now and I thought
it pertinent to disclose the use and
economic benefit to the City of Coffs
Harbour and surrounding region.
As we have just seen the National
Championship round of the Power
Boats in August and Round 10 of the
FIA World Rally Championship, which
was held in September, the economic
benefit to Coffs Harbour has been
enormous.
Some people may argue that they have
been inconvenienced by these events
but events bring enormous benefit to
our community as well as providing
worldwide media that showcases
Coffs Harbour.
Indent summary of the events that have
been held at C.ex Coffs International
Stadium are as follows:
Events – 1 August, 2013 – 31 July, 2014
• 90 days of sporting events including
eight national events, seven state. 19
regional events and 21 local events.
• A multitude of sports including AFL,
Athletics, Football (Soccer), Oz Tag,
Rugby Union, Rugby League and Touch
Football.
• Over 22,000 participants and 13,500
spectators have entered the Stadium
gates.
• An estimated economic benefit in
excess of $9 million to the City.
Events already booked in for the
second year of our naming rights
agreement are as follows:
• October 2014, the National Junior
Oztag Championships – a first for
the venue with an estimated 2100
competitors plus officials and families
• November 2014, the National Senior
Oztag Championships for the seventh
year with around 1800 competitors plus
officials and spectators.
• February, 2015, the Oztag Junior State
Cup will be played for the first time.
This will be a massive event with over
250 teams consisting of more than 4000
BY MARGHERITA STANDING – C.ex Coffs Camera Club
JOHN RAFFERTY
competitors alone.
• March 2015, the return of the National
Touch Football Titles with over
2500 competitors plus officials and
spectators.
• April 2015, the Touch Football World
Cup, which will host players from 30
different countries and it is expected
to bring over 3000 people to the Coffs
Coast as approximately 100 teams battle
for a World Title.
• The stadium will also play host to the
usual range of local, regional and state
sporting events over the next 12 months.
As the Christmas season draws
closer I urge people to book early with
our Events Team for their Christmas
functions at C.ex Coffs and especially
to consider booking your group onto
our new area, ‘The North Lawn’ which is
now available for outdoor functions and
events.
Kind Regards,
John Rafferty

The Silly Season
HELLO !!
Hello from the Events Team. Who is excited that we are off and
racing into Spring Carnival Season?
Ladies, we hope you have your frocks and hats ready for Melbourne
Cup and gentlemen, remember to match your female counterparts!
We have some fabulous events lined up for Melbourne Cup day,
which you will see in the upcoming pages. We would love to see
you there!
Did you know that World War I and World War II stopped most
major sporting events in Australia but never the Melbourne Cup? It
would be excellent to welcome everyone to C.ex Coffs dressed up in
their finest race attire, so perhaps pre-race drinks in our Legends or
Vista bars with your fellow race goers?
The C.ex Coffs Wedding Showcase
and Expo Day!
By now everybody knows that the Events office loves a wedding or
two … you could say we are obsessed with all things weddings!
We are super excited to announce the return of the C.ex Coffs
Wedding Showcase and Expo Day on Sunday 18 January 2015
from 10am to 2pm. The upcoming showcase will feature C.ex
Coffs’ Rainbow Room and Rendezvous Room with stunning
examples of theming, entertainment, wedding cakes and more,
setting the scene of real-life weddings. The Expo will be held in the
Auditorium, which is conveniently located on the same floor and in
perfect proximity to the showcased function rooms.
We will not only be showcasing our function rooms to their finest
potential but also bringing together Coffs Harbour’s most exclusive
suppliers. All guests will receive a welcome drink and delicious high
tea treats on arrival, ready to be led on a magical journey into the
world of Coffs Harbour weddings.
We cannot wait to meet the happy, sparkly brides who are already
engaged or will be proposed to over the summer season because –
ladies, listen intently now – statistics show that a third of wedding
proposals happen between Christmas and the New Year! So surely,
if we add the holiday frivolity, the warmth of summer and relief
of holidays, it would equate to over 50 per cent, right?! So bring
yourself, your groom and a bunch of bridesmaids and blind us with
your megawatt smiles and sparkly new jewels. We will bring the
champagne to celebrate.

It might not seem it at the moment but Christmas is coming around
quickly with everyone remarking how hastily the year has gone.
Soon we are going to be entering the Silly Season and revelling in
festivities, all the while making the most of late night shopping and
frantically gift wrapping.
It is almost time to relax, eat, drink and be merry with family
and friends. And that is where we come in to help. Do you need
assistance organising a Christmas party to remember, long after the
bad dancing and awkward Christmas jokes? We have an exciting
array of just-released Christmas packages that will suit all tastes and
budgets. Choose your own adventure with our Build A Party, Just
The Way You Like It Package, or kick off your shoes with a relaxed
game of Barefoot Bowls. We can help take the stress out of getting
the crew together, so you can concentrate on celebrating in style.

Amanda Gibson
Saturday 18 October 8.00pm $Free
In the Vista Lounge
From a very young age Amanda Gibson has
enjoyed singing, making it a part of her life
that she now enjoys with her own children.
Native to the mid-north coast of NSW, Amanda has had an
affiliation with many styles of music and varied artists. She
felt the calling of country music, however, after discovering the
fabulous Loretta Lynn. She still feels very influenced by Loretta
Lynn, acknowledging her as one of the pioneers for women in
country music.
Amanda’s songs are from very real life experience and are
written from the heart. She does not believe in just writing
another song – she strives for her songs to have substance and
feeling so that her audience connects with her and her story.
Amanda has recently released her EP, Better Off Alone, and
the one thing that stands out is that the songs are a reflection
of who Amanda is today, demonstrating traits of strength and
determination to be successful both as a mother and a country
music artist.
Her ability to be unique and approachable is a crucial part
of Amanda’s personality that shines through her songs and
onstage performances that has led to Amanda gaining success
and a great fan base.
Gabriel and Cecilia
Saturday 25 October 8.00pm In the Vista Lounge $Free
Gabriel and Cecilia Brandolini are two wonderful young and
inspired singer/songwriters with a wealth of musical talent.
They have rocketed to ‘hottest duo in Australia’ status after their
recent appearances on The Voice. This creative and original
brother and sister duo from northern NSW started playing
music at six or seven years of age and are now proficient in a
colourful array of instruments, including piano, bass, ukulele,
guitar and viola.
Their original album Dirt On Our Shoes, which reached number
nine in the national iTunes album charts and number three on
singer/songwriter charts, is just the start for these two.
With shows booked around the country, lots of media attention,
a rapidly growing following of adoring fans and more albums
to come, Gabriel and Cecilia’s style is accessible to audiences
of all ages and their success looks likely to soar!

C.ex Woolgoolga Family Day
On Sunday 13 July C.ex Woolgoolga joined forces with
the C.ex Community Crew and hosted a Family Fun Day
Fundraiser. Dads in Distress were the worthy recipient of
the $1200 raised on the day. Since the humble beginnings
of Dads in Distress, on a verandah in Coffs Harbour in
1999, their volunteers have positively impacted
thousands of families across the nation, saved untold
men on the brink of suicide and seen many children
reunited with their fathers and extended families. Keep
up the good work Dads in Distress.
Jeans for Genes Day
During August the Coffs Coast Apex Toy Library received
a $3500 Club Grant from the C.ex Group. The grant will be
used to bring a new vision to the Coffs Coast Toy Library.
This will involve implementing a new business plan to
modernise, organise and provide the community with
access to a wide range of contemporary early childhood
educational toys. The toy library, located at the Bray Street
Shopping Complex, can be contacted on 6652 7986.
NAB Cycle Challenge
On Sunday 3 August a record 852 cyclists – young and old
– saddled up, clipped their feet into the pedals and pushed
and pulled their way over Coffs Coast hills and dales in aid
of Rotary charities. This year, in addition to the Community
Crew volunteering as traffic marshals, the C.ex Group put a
team together to compete.
On Friday 1 August our staff and members participated in Jeans
for Genes day. Together we raised more than $800. All donations
to the Children’s Medical Research Institute make a real and
immediate difference to finding causes and new treatments for
childhood genetic diseases. A huge thank you to all our members
and staff for taking part and donating to such a worthwhile cause.

welcome in the spring with a
show that will blow you away –
literally and figuratively. Airline baggage
handlers around the country will likely
quit as a troupe of trumpets, trombones,
baritone horns, guitars, drums, percussion
and a man with an orchestra in his mouth
prepare to circumnavigate the country to
play shows in specially selected venues.
On the road with The Cat Empire is
Madre Monte, featuring hard hitting horns
funkin’ up 1950s-style ‘cumbia’ – with a
tight rhythm section dissecting AfroColombian progressions, skankin’ guitars
infusing reggae grooves, and a front man
recreating the ancient mythological stories
of Colombia, all intertwining to create a
unique nine-piece Latin Reggae outfit.
Don’t miss this show. Dancing shoes and a

Travel tales with Kerry Moss from Quadrant Travel and Journeys.
Canada
Whether it’s Niagara Falls or the breathtaking UNESCO World
Heritage Rocky Mountains, Canada is home to some of the
world’s most magnificent sights. Travellers are spoilt for choice
when it comes to sightseeing in Canada. After all, 16 millionplus visitors each year can’t be wrong.
Indent by the Rockies, the town of Banff and the village of Lake
Louise are the standouts of the west coast of Canada. The
pristine mountains are mirrored in the turquoise waters of the
lake where it’s not uncommon to see deer and bears in the
wild. It’s here where nature makes way for world-class skiing
and luxury resorts combined with natural beauty and the best
facilities. Rodeos don’t come much bigger than the greatest
outdoor show on earth: The Calgary Stampede. There are daily
shows featuring bull riding, steer wrestling and of course barrel
racing. And at night there’s a grandstand show with the thrills
and spills of the ever-popular chuck wagon races. Held annually
in July, it’s an amazing time to be in Calgary and an experience
that every cowboy-at-heart needs to have in their lifetime.

NSW Blues receive keys
to the city
An event was organised back on 2 July 2014 by the
Coffs Harbour City Council to acknowledge the
triumphant NSW Blues State of Origin NRL team.
A large crowd of enthusiastic supporters gathered at
the city centre to see the mayor present the keys to the
city to the players and coach.
As part of the event the C.ex Sports, Touring and
Classic Car Club was approached by council to provide
the team with transport from their Novotel training
base to the city centre.
The car club responded quickly by providing a
convoy of 28 specially selected club cars and drivers
to pick up the players at the Novotel. The cars then
travelled to the city centre venue under police escort
and returned the team to the Novotel following the
presentation.
The keys to the city were expertly made a few weeks
prior to the event at the Coffs Harbour Men’s Shed and
we thank them for their valuable contribution.
Many thanks also go to our club members for
providing the transport and to other members who
assisted with the logistics of what turned out to be a
very successful community event.

Don’t miss Art Auction Number 10 – quirky and fun! On 1
November, come along and discover C.ex Urunga, enjoy the
spectacular river views, the live music, the art exhibition and
the 10th annual Life Without Barriers Art Auction.
The artwork includes paintings under glass and on board,
ceramics, mosaics and papier-mâché. The paintings are
colourful, varied and quirky, with very interesting subjects.
The 3D sculptural works are usually fairly funky and bidding
can be very fierce. The auctioning is exciting and fun, led by
the delightfully entertaining auctioneer Guy Saddleton.
This will be the tenth year that Guy Saddelton has donated
his energies to this project and the eighth year supported
by C.ex Urunga. It is certainly something different to do on
a lazy Saturday afternoon and if you do come you will be
helping to support a worthwhile community program that

ello again to all the readers of the C.ex Group
Xcite magazine. We have had excellent
news concerning Anzac Day 2015, the 100th
anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli that
created the Anzac legend. We have been
fortunate enough to receive $24,500 towards the event.
A breakdown on what the money will be spent on includes:
• Hire for C.ex Coffs rooms in Vernon Street arcade for
approximately 27 school projects on WWI, with the C.ex
Group and the RSL Sub-branch both donating $5000 each in
prizes.
• Construction of scaffold seating around the cenotaph to
complement the council seating that we presently use and
doubling the capacity.
• A new WWI Honour Roll to match the existing WWII
Honour Roll.
• Also money for screening WWI images onto the outside
wall of C.ex Coffs from 23 to 25 April 2015.
In conjunction with these events, on Sunday 26 April C.ex
Coffs will host a fun family and information day, with the
presentation of project winners.
We have also been fortunate enough to obtain a $1750
grant from the DVA Best Grant Scheme, enabling our
