SPEAKERS
Professor Lars Sennerby DDS, PhD
Lars graduated with a DDS-degree from the University of Gothenburg in 1986. He got his training in implant surgery in the
Brånemark Clinic, Gothenburg, where he worked part-time from 1989 to 2002. His PhD thesis “On the bone tissue responses
to titanium implants” was defended in 1991. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in “Clinical and
experimental oral implantology” at the Dept of Biomaterials, University of Gothenburg in 2000. Since 2001 he performs implant
surgery in private practice in Sweden, UK and in Clinica Feltre, Italy. Dr Sennerby is presently part-time professor at the Dept
of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has published extensively on dental implants,
Biomaterials and bone healing. Dr Sennerby is co-editor-in-chief for Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research.
Dr Kavit ShahBDS, MFDS.RCS, M.Clin.Dent, MRD.RCS
Kavit graduated from Guys’ and St Thomas’ School of Dentistry in 2002. In 2009 he completed a four year Masters and
Specialist Training Programme in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute, graduating
with distinction and is now a recognised specialist in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics by The General Dental Council. He
is a partner at The London Centre for Prosthodontics, a specialist referral practice in Cavendish Square. In addition to the time
spent at the practice, Kavit is a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow at The Eastman Dental Institute, where he lectures and
supervises graduate students in the treatment of implant and prosthodontics patients. His practice is limited to Prosthodontics,
providing treatment solutions for complex cases. The tenants through which he executes all treatment are longevity coupled
with minimal intervention wherever possible.
Dr Peter Russell BDSc MSC GCED FADI
Peter completed his undergraduate dental training at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry, then travelled over to
London to undertake his prosthodontic postgraduate education. On his return to Brisbane, Peter commenced work at the
University of Queensland School of Dentistry and the Brisbane Dental Hospital. After gaining considerable clinical experience
he commenced private practice. To this day, Peter continues to work at the Brisbane Dental Hospital and in private
practice. He still enjoys his teaching association with the University of Queensland and Griffith University.
Dr Chris Salierno D.D.S.
Dr. Chris Salierno is a general dentist from Long Island, New York. He graduated from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine
in 2005 and completed a GPR there in 2006 focusing on implant prosthetics. While in dental school, Dr. Salierno served as the
National President of the American Student Dental Association. He has also served as the Chair of the ADA New Dentist
Committee and is currently the President of the Suffolk County Dental Society. He lectures internationally on clinical dentistry,
practice management, and leadership development. His material can be viewed online on his blog, The Curious Dentist. In
2014, Dr. Salierno became the Editor of Dental Economics.
Dr Norbert Hassfurther M.D., D.D.S, Dr. med. (PhD)
Norbert Hassfurther qualified and was licensed to practice medicine in 1982 at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen,
Germany. In 1985 he completed his training and qualified to practice dentistry. He completed his Specialist degree in Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery in 1991 and was appointed as Senior Physician at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the
University of Giessen, Germany. In 1994 he established his own private practice in Wetttenberg, Germany where his main
focus is in the area of dental implantology and bone grafting. He has lectured throughout Europe on his bone grafting
techniques.
Dr Tasha Mackie BDS(Otago), Doctor of Clinical Dentistry(Perio), FRACDS(Perio)
Dr Tasha Mackie graduated as a dentist (BDS) from Otago University, in 2000. Tasha then worked in England until 2003,
followed by Hamilton (NZ) before returning to study as a Periodontist at Otago in 2005.Tasha graduated as a Periodontist in
2007 with Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology). Tasha’s thesis was a microbiological study titled: Influence of haem
availability on the viability of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia, following exposure to reactive oxygen
species.Tasha also gained a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons - FRACDS(Perio) in 2007 after
sitting the Part I examination in 2005 and the Part II examination in 2007. Tasha has been an external examiner (thesis) for the
University of Otago (Periodontology Department), previously taught undergraduate students and is currently Treasurer
for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZ Dental Association. Tasha and Andrew have two children.
Dr Adrian Hoffman BDS(Syd), FDSRCS(Eng), MDSc(Qld), FRACDS(Perio)
Adrian is a specialist periodontist and the principle of “Pacific Periodontics & Implants” located at Tugun, Gold Coast and
Ballina, NSW. Adrian graduated in dentistry in 1994 from the University of Sydney where he was elected President of the
Dental Undergraduate Association. He attained experience in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Prosthodontics in UK from 19962000 and attained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed his specialist training program in
Periodontics at the University of Queensland in 2001- 2003. Adrian has a particular interest in mucogingival root-coverage
surgery of natural teeth and soft tissue aesthetics around dental implants.
Mr Lyndon Hays
Lyndon has been a qualified Dental Technician in Queensland for 29 years. Having completed his training in 1986 he continued
to work and train in his chosen area of expertise, crown and bridge. After working in several prominent Brisbane laboratories for
several years in 1992 he and a partner set up a specialist crown and bridge dental laboratory. With a passion for dental
implants Lyndon took up a position with a large Prosthodontic group in Brisbane (BOH Dental) to further his knowledge base.
After 5 years with BOH moving in to implant sales and technical advisor with Neoss Australia was a desired progression for
Lyndon. Now back working as a Dental Laboratory Manager at BOH Prosthodontics, Lyndon has a great passion to educate
and train and pass on the skills and techniques he has learnt throughout his career.
Dr Keith Doonan B.D.S (Lond) M.Clin. Dent (Pros), FRACDS
Keith received his BDS in 1993 from Royal London Hospital Dental School where he graduated as Dental Society President.
He later received his Masters in Prosthodontics from Kings College London and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of
Dental Surgeons and was a part-time visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland Dental School. In addition Keith
is a faculty member of DPL Educational Services accredited to deliver DPL workshops on communication and interpersonal
skills to dentists. He is also a qualified actor engaged in short films, stand up comedy and theatre. He currently lectures on
dental implants, Prosthodontics and communication skills and maintains a private practice in Brisbane City Centre and the
Sunshine Coast. Keith has mentored a number of dentists with regards to the practical hands on aspects of implant dentistry.

Dr Angus Colquhoun, MBChB, MDS (Otago) FRACDS (OMS)
Angus Colquhoun is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon from Hamilton, New Zealand. He is the clinical director and
supervisor of training for the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Waikato Hospital and also works in private
practice at Anglesea OMS. Angus is trained in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with prizes and distinctions from
both the University of Dundee and the University of Otago. He has several publications in peer-reviewed journals both in New
Zealand and internationally. Angus’ particular surgical interests include placement of dental implants, salivary gland Disorders,
head and neck cancer, and facial reconstruction. Angus is a member of the New Zealand Medical Association and the New
Zealand Dental Association. He is a Past President of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Branch of the New Zealand Dental
Association. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a
Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Angus is also a regional faculty member of the AO Foundation.
Dr Scott Froum DDS
Scott Froum is a board certified periodontist who received his BA from Amherst College in Amherst, MA with a major in biology.
He received his DDS from the State University of New York Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine where he graduated with
honors. He continued his dental training in the post graduate periodontal department at the State University of New York Stony
Brook School of Dental Medicine and received his periodontal certificate. He currently is a clinical assistant professor at New
York University in the Department of Periodontology and Implantology. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the SUNY
Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine in the Department of Periodontics. He is co-editor of the web site The SurgicalRestorative Resource. He has lectured on the national and international level on implant therapy and complications. He has a
private practice in New York City, NY.
Dr Thomas Zumstein Dr. med. dent. eidg. dipl. Dental Specialist for Oral Surgery for Oral Implantology.
Thomas Zumstein competed his Doctoral degree in dental medicine, Zurich (Switzerland) in 1981. From 1981 until 1983 he
was Assistant at the Department of Cranio-Mandibular Dysfunctions and Complete Prosthodontics, University of Zurich working
with Prof. Dr. S.Palla. In 1984 - 1985 he was Assistant at the Department of Oral Surgery, University of Zurich with Prof. Dr.
H. Obwegeser and Dr. E. Schmid. In 1985 until 1987 Thomas had a Private practice in Winterthur (Switzerland) with a focus on
prophylaxis and periodontology with Dres H. Ochsenbein and B. Lüscher. In 1987 he opened he has been in his own practice
with a focus on dental implantology and prosthodontics where he still practices today. He received his Specialisation in
Oral surgery in 2002 and from 2003- 2005 was an Instructor at the Department of Cranio-mandibular Dysfunctions and
Complete Prosthodontics, University of Zurich. In 2011 he received his Certificate SSO of continuing education in oral
implantology. He is a past president and an active member of numerous societies including the Swiss paradontology, the Swiss
reconstructive society, Swiss Implantology Association and the Swiss Oral Surgery and Stomatology society.
A/Prof Anthony Lynham BDSc BMED (Hons) FRACDS (OMS) FRCS.ED MP
Anthony is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon practicing in Brisbane. He commits to both private and public practice and is
directly involved with the selection and training of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Australia. He is a Senior Lecturer at the
University of Queensland and Director of an Educational and Surgical Foundation in Australia and New Zealand. In
implantology, his interest is the provision of a physiological and surgical base upon which subsequent implant placement is
problem free with an excellent functional and aesthetic outcome. He has been performing bone grafting procedures for a wide
number of implant practitioners. Where there is a deficiency of bone for implant placement, Dr Lynham provides appropriate
grafting surgery. Dr Lynham is happily married with four children at last count! His interests include all forms of sport, classic
cars and beef cattle breeding.
Dr Andrew Mackie BDS, MFGDP, DClinDent, MRACDSa
Andrew graduated in Otago (BDS) in 1999. After practicing and studying in Cambridgeshire, England for three years, Andrew
obtained a Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons, London (MFGDP). Following Membership examinations, he moved
back to New Zealand and worked in Hamilton before beginning postgraduate study towards a Clinical Doctorate in the discipline
of Prosthodontics (DClinDent). In 2008, Andrew was awarded a Membership to the Royal Australasian College of Dental
Surgeons (MRACDS) and started private specialist practice (Mackie Dental Specialists) with Periodontist Dr Tasha Mackie.
Andrew has been an external examiner for the Otago School of Dentistry and is past president of the Waikato Bay of Plenty
branch of the New Zealand Dental association. Andrew is current President of the New Zealand Association of Prosthodontists
and Restorative Dentists.
Dr Tony Strangio BDSC MSc (Oral Implantology)
Tony graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1993(BDSc). He first became involved in implant dentistry in 1996 at
the Branemark centre, Western Australia. He completed his primaries for the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons in
2006 and was awarded commendation. He completed his masters in oral implantology in. 2013. He currently operates a referral
based practice in the field of oral and implant surgery which he has maintained for the past 10 years. He has lectured
extensively in the field of implant dentistry and was involved as a lecturer at the Oral Health Centre Of Western Australia from
2002-2004 in the field of exodontia. Dr Strangio was the past federal president 2011- 2013 and currently serving as immediate
Past President of the Australian AOS society. He is also a member of the ADA, Australian Society of Perio, Australian Society of
Prosthodontics and cofounder of the ADIOR centre ( Academy Of Dental Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation). Dr Strangio has
been involved in several pre launch clinical trials and the development of angulated implantology SA. His research interests
include immediate implantology and simplification of implant techniques.
Dr Michael Howard BDSc (Hons)
Michael graduated from the University of Queensland in 1982 with Hons 1. Following 2 years Government Service before he
joined Medland Dental Group 1985, where he became a Senior Partner in 2000. Michael undertook his first dental implant
prosthetics in 1987 and then commenced implant training with Dr Jack Hahn in 1988. During the 1990’s he trained with Carl
Misch. He has been in private practice for 25 years focusing on Crown and Bridge Dental Implants. Michael has lectured widely
to study groups, private practices and university post-graduate programs. He is currently a member of the Australian Society of
Implant Dentistry, the Australasian Osseointegration Society (Qld) inc, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and
the Australian Dental Association. In 2006 he established the Brisbane Dental Implant Group where he has limited his practice
to dental implants. This group is an association of Implant Dentist, Oral & Maxillo Facial Surgeons, Prosthodontist, Orthodontist
and Cranio and Facial Physio Therapist.
