Be Among the First to Explore
the new arch experience
Fifty years after completing the construction of the Gateway Arch, St. Louis is continuing the legacy of Eero Saarinen’s vision for our
National Park as an interactive gateway to history. His vision called for the celebration of, and education about, the city’s role as a hub
for early settlers pioneering westward into unchartered territory.
The Arch grounds and park areas will be transformed, creating a more accessible experience for groups. A new park over the highway
will allow visitors to traverse from the Old Courthouse to the Arch and all the way to the riverfront without encountering a single step
or curb. Your guests will be able to delve more deeply into the history, purpose and culture surrounding the Arch in enriched educational
and performance spaces.
Visiting the grounds will be made easier with newly designated bus drop-off and loading zones, as well as designated free parking
for buses. When the project is completed in 2017, experiencing the updated Gateway Arch grounds and attractions will be even more
enjoyable and memorable than ever before.

Journey together, with your group
Located mere footsteps from where Lewis and Clark completed their historic journey,
the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is a 90-acre park along the banks of the
Mississippi River, designated as a national historic site in 1935. Encompassing the
Gateway Arch, Old Courthouse, Luther Ely Square and surrounding grounds, the park is
dominated by the nation’s tallest monument— Eero Saarinen’s iconic Gateway Arch.
Bring history to life with a Gateway Arch Riverboat Cruise on the mighty Mississippi and
trial reenactments in St. Louis’ Old Courthouse. Educate, entertain and inspire
your group as they visit several points of interest, and absorb nature
as they stroll between each, no matter what time of year!

OLD COURTHOUSE
Explore one of St. Louis’ most prominent and
historical sites, the Old Courthouse. Built
between 1839 and 1862, this architectural
masterpiece served as the place where
Dred and Harriet Scott sued for their
freedom, and where Virginia Minor fought
for women’s right to vote. Additional
exhibits detailing St. Louis’ role in westward
expansion will open in March 2015. NOTE:
During construction, the Old Courthouse
will serve as a temporary ticketing and
visitor center.
GATEWAY ARCH
Ride a tram 630 feet up to the top of the
iconic Gateway Arch, where you’ll find a
30-mile, awe-inspiring view of both modern
and historic St. Louis— including Busch
Stadium, Ballpark Village and a transformed
park over the highway, as well as three
unique bridges and a train trestle connecting
to the east side of the Mississippi River.
