Keynote speaker U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham will present the opening address with a dynamic focus on what’s happening in the Lowcountry and throughout the region. One of the community’s most popular events, over 750 business and community members attended last year to find out how area leaders are tackling the biggest issues shaping our regional economy. Following Graham’s keynote, featured speakers Hilton Head Island Mayor Drew Laughlin, Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka and Beaufort County Council Chairman Paul Sommerville will discuss their goals, challenges and the overall health of our community. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear our local leaders clarify important regional issues, and address concerns that impact business, tourism and our quality of life in the Lowcountry. Business News October Chamber Earns ReAccreditation from Destination Marketing Association International The chamber once again earned accreditation from Destination Marketing Accreditation International. (DMAI). The chamber is one of only 193 accredited DMO’s worldwide. Rigorous criteria for this designation includes 58 different standards for DMAI accreditation. In maintaining accreditation, DMOs communicate to their community and potential visitors that their organization has continued to demonstrate excellence in destination management and marketing. Chamber’s VCB Garners National Marketing Award Prestigious Gold Key Award Presented to Chamber’s VCB The Destinations Council Destiny Award, presented by the U.S. Travel Association, was recently awarded to the chamber’s VCB for its 2014 digital co-op marketing program. The popular television show offers incredible exposure for the destination, with an estimated ad value of $218,465 for the segment and a daily audience of 4.8 million viewers. The chamber hosted America’s Top Travel Journalist Peter Greenberg, in town shooting his new series “The Travel Detective.” The New York Times best-selling author will give an insider view of Hilton Head Island on his new series which debuts on PBS this month. Look for our Hilton Head Island segment later this season. USA Today’s “Taking Romance on the Road” September feature touts Hilton Head Island among its most romance worthy adventures with a special nod to the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa. The resort’s “romantic itineraries include private sunset cruises and candlelit dinners.” USA Today has a circulation of over 1.4 million daily readers. Williams and Controller Kim Burgess recently joined the elite group of community association managers to earn the Professional Community Association Manager credential from Community Associations Institute. They are among 2,500 managers worldwide to earn the industry’s highest level of recognition. Spartina 449 recently announced the company was named to Inc. magazine’s 5000 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies for its second consecutive year. The Daufuskie Island-based line opened its first retail location in Bluffton this year and its continued growth includes hundreds of new retail stores across the country. Beach Properties of Hilton Head announced the move of their reservation and administrative offices to their new 64 Arrow Road location. The firm also refurbished their 39 Bow Circle office which houses property management and maintenance departments. Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort announced its new userfriendly and device responsive website www.palmettodunes. com. The site allows users to sort nearly 150 vacation homes and rentals by date, location, view as well as reserve tee times, bikes, beach chairs and more. DayBreak Adult Care Services presented “Paint the Promenade Purple” pub crawl fundraiser to support research efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association in partnership with Hospice Care of America. Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club, a Heritage Golf Group property, announced the launch of FootGolf at the club. The fast-paced new sport combines the popular sports of soccer and golf. Hilton Head Health recently announced major renovations which include the new Indigo Spa with estimated completion winter 2014; a 30-room inn, scheduled to open late spring 2015 and its newly renovated True restaurant and lounge area offering an a la carte menu of food and wine. Mitchelville Preservation Project announced The National Park Service selected Mitchelville as the site for the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program in September. The conference was held at the historic Cherry Hill School. National Park Service representatives visited Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park earlier this year, after the site was designated part of the national project. Haig Point recently hosted the Seventh Annual Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational golf tournament. Sixty-three players representing 11 colleges from around the country competed in the tournament hosted by Kennesaw State University and UNC Wilmington. Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and Beaufort County recently dedicated a new public art piece, “Sail,” at the Hilton Head Island Airport. The piece, which was donated to the foundation’s Public Art Fund in 2013 by resident Christopher Guenther, is the fourth to be installed to the area’s permanent public art collection. Professional Tennis Registry recently announced a global partnership agreement with the International Tennis Performance Association. The new agreement will provide special educational opportunities for members of both organizations.
