In just 12 days we: Hosted a dinner for 40 participants in a district Spiritual Growth seminar Shared in the meal prepared for us by the United Methodist Women Received tons of food for S.A.M. Pantry from the Rotary Food Drive Hosted a district wide dinner for the pastors to meet our new bishop, Frank Beard Opened our door to the community and welcomed 101 guests into our church to share a meal with us. many people who made it happen, a big thank you; for all who, through your gifts and offering, provide the resources, we are grateful; and for each member and friend of our congregation who lives out the call to welcome everyone in Jesus’ name, Amen! This month sees us celebrate Thanksgiving in our homes and church. It a harvest festival, giving thanks for God’s blessing. Even as we have opened our doors to welcome and share with our community and friends, let us open our hearts and lives to God, returning thanks to Him, and dedicating our harvest gifts to the kingdom. If ever there was the embodiment of serving and sharing, our congregation demonstrated it this last month. To all the Update on Sunday School Teachers Judy Evans is retiring from teaching Sunday school in the 3 & 4 year old class for 40+ years. Her last Sunday will be October 30 and her students are sure going to miss her. She has had such dedication and has loved sharing her faith and the love of Jesus with her students. Judy has been a faithful servant all these years and we wish her well in her retirement. Ingrid Minger and Johanna Steffens will begin co-teaching the 3 & 4 year old class on November 6. Ingrid’s daughter (Bronwyn) and Johanna’s daughter and son (Julianne and Jett) are students in this class so this will be a great way for them to be together on Sunday mornings. Thanks Ingrid and Johanna!! Nichole Mitchell has graciously offered to teach the Senior High Sunday school class through December. She will graduate in December and she and Jim may be relocating out of state. The students will enjoy spending time with her and getting to know her better. Thanks Nichole!! Harvest Gathering Sunday Exodus 23:14-6 describes the three festivals that God established for his people; Unleavened Bread, First Harvest, and Harvest Gathering. The Unleavened Bread festival is the great celebration of God delivering his people from slavery in Egypt and the other two celebrate the gathering of the harvest. We are sharing in the Harvest Gathering when we celebrate what God has given us by bringing in the tithe. We encourage you to bring 1/10 of one week’s income on Sunday, November 20th. No reservations are necessary, just go and learn how you can help women in need. Lunch will be provided. Maternal Health-The United States Maternal Health Care Crisis: Only 49 countries have lower maternal mortality ratios than the US; 34,000 women nearly die each year from pregnancy-related complications-one every 15 minutes; the risk of maternal death in high-poverty areas is twice that in low-poverty areas. For such an advanced nation, we are doing poorly to protect our women of childbearing age. Unnecessary C-sections, lack of prenatal education, family planning, cancer screening, equal pay for women, maternity leave, and healthy living for teens at risk are issues that UMW is concerned about. We put our faith, hope, and love into action to try to meet the needs of the most vulnerable women, so they can live healthy lives and have healthy children. PASS Update by Susan Hall Judy Evans is retiring from teaching the K-1st grade students at Pass for the last 8 years. She has done a wonderful job and she will be greatly missed!! 3 days a week. Worship Preview Sunday, November 6, 2016 (25th Sunday after Pentecost) The theme for the Journey of 10 x 10 this month is “Do 10 Random Acts of Kindness”. The fruits of the Spirit always refer to ‘kindness’. Do our lives reflect this fruit? Let us share the joy of Jesus by letting kindness be our way.
