Nestled away in the coastal mountains is the hidden jewel of the Lower Mainland – Indian Arm. Just minutes away from the city, but miles away from city life, Indian Arm offers a total escape, a return to the splendor and serenity of nature. Camp Jubilee lies halfway up Indian Arm at Orlomah Beach, between Deep Cove and the Indian River. Please take a moment to read through the following Planning Guide. Guest Accommodations 2 Arrival/Departure Info 2 Sincerely, Dave Duckworth General Manager—Camp Jubilee Canoe Course Information 2 Camp Jubilee is situated on a 128 acre, oceanfront site of unspoiled evergreen forest at the base of Mt. Seymour. This unique facility, accessible only by boat, is just a short 30-minute ride from Deep Cove in North Vancouver. Food Services & Menu Information Guest Services Appendixes (Directions, Waivers, etc) ©Camp Jubilee Retreat & Conference Centre 3 3 4 –14 Guest Accommodations Camp Jubilee offers the following accommodations: Cabins There are 13 cedar cabins housing 10 guests per cabin. These heated cabins offer bunk-style beds complete with 2piece bathrooms and great views of the forest and camp property. The Wash House is a separate building located close to all cabins housing shower facilities for guests staying in cabins. Lodge Rooms There are 5 lodge rooms with sweeping views of Indian Arm or the forest. Each room offers 2 single beds. Shared bathroom and shower facilities are located at the end of the hall. Lodge rooms are based on double occupancy. Please be advised that Camp Jubilee does not provide bedding and all guest are responsible for bringing their own bedding (sleeping bag/blankets & pillow), towels and toiletries. Yurts There are 3 Yurts with beds to sleep 10 people. Yurts have bathrooms, heat and lighting. Arrival & Departure at Camp Jubilee Guests are asked to arrive at the Government Dock in Deep Cove (North Vancouver) at least 30 minutes prior to departure. FRIDAY MAY 1, 2015 Departure time from Deep Cove is 6:00pm SUNDAY MAY 3, 2015 Departure time from Camp Jubilee is 5:00pm Canoe Training Information Pullers Course Learn the paddle strokes that will help you move your canoe effectively, and gain the knowledge needed to progress in the art of canoeing. Course begins Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm and continues Sunday 9:00am to 12:00pm Skippers Course Continues Sunday 9:00am to 4:00pm Other Important Information Smoking Smoking is permitted by persons 18 years of age and older by law at the second campfire area only. Pets Due to the public nature of this site, pets are not allowed. Camp Safety Orientation Upon arrival at camp, a camp staff member will provide a 20 minute Camp Safety Orientation outlining out-of-bounds areas, safety policies and a site tour. Visitors For the safety and security of our guests and staff, Jubilee is a closed facility. Please advise us if you expect visitors during your stay. Alcohol Alcohol is not permitted at Camp Jubilee. Please refer to Appendix A: General Conditions of Use for more details. Illegal Substances Camp Jubilee strictly enforces a drug-free environment. Any persons participating in the use or distribution of illegal drugs or substances as defined by Canadian law will be asked to vacate the property immediately. Boat transportation will be provided at the expense of the group or responsible individual. Please be sure to review the packing list and canoe gear required on page . For more information on what is covered in the lessons, please visit www.ridgewilderness.com ©Camp Jubilee Retreat & Conference Centre 2 Food Services & Meals We pride ourselves on providing nutritious and delicious meals and snacks at exceptional quality. Your meals will start from Dinner on your day of arrival continuing through to Lunch on your day of departure. Each meal will offer a vegetarian option, however we ask that you provide us with a full list of any special dietary requirements at least 14 days prior to your stay. Refreshments between meals consist of coffee, tea, and seasonal fruit to keep all our guests well-nourished throughout their stay. There is also a Saturday evening snack included. Meal times are 8:30am for breakfast, 12:30pm for lunch and 5:30pm for dinner. Please note: No outdoor shoes are allowed in Jubilee Lodge or Dining Hall. We suggest guests bring a separate pair of indoor shoes for use inside the lodge, dining hall, and cabins. **All food and drinks must be consumed in the Dining Hall, Fordham Hall or other designated eating areas. No food or drinks are to be stored, cooked or consumed in any accommodation space so as not to attract any unwanted wildlife** Nut Policy DO NOT BRING NUTS! Camp Jubilee has been identified as a “nut managed” camp. We regularly encounter campers/guests who have life threatening allergies to nuts. In an effort to ensure their personal safety during their stay at Camp Jubilee, we prepare and serve meals which are free of nuts and nut products. We also request that all visitors and staff DO NOT bring nuts or products containing nuts to camp. Items brought to camp containing either of these will be confiscated and removed. Guest Services Staff Support A Camp Jubilee host or senior instructor will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. As well, staff members are available on site 24 hours a day to respond to any emergency needs. Emergency Phone Use An emergency phone is available for local calls only. Cell Phones Most cell phone networks have adequate reception coverage at the camp with best reception received from the dock area. In the event additional charges are incurred, payment is due prior to departure. Smoking – Smoking is only permitted by persons 18 years or older in the second campfire pit area. First Aid – Groups are required to supply their own basic First Aid kit. The group leader, or his/ her designate, is primarily responsible for providing first aid treatment. A Jubilee staff member is available to provide back-up assistance. Supervision – Supervision of youth at all times is the responsibility of group/organization. A minimum of 1 adult must accompany each activity rotation group (12 students) to provide supervision of youth. Swimming – A Camp Jubilee lifeguard (certified NLS) must be present for all swimming activities involving children under the age of 19. Food/Drinks – All food and drinks must be consumed and stored in the Adult only groups may swim without a lifeguard, at their own risk. Dining Hall, Fordham Hall or other designated eating areas. Take the first exit, Eastbound, off the bridge and onto the Dollarton Highway (if you end up on the Mount Seymour Parkway, don’t worry, it goes the same way). Continue East until Dollarton Highway becomes Deep Cove Road and finally turns into Gallant Ave. The Government Dock is right between Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak and Panorama Park. Day parking is available at Panorama Park. Please be aware of any posted parking signs. Pack clothes that are appropriate for all types of weather including rain, sun, or wind. Please bring water shoes (or old shoes that can get wet) if your group is participating in any swimming activities, as the swimming area is rocky. If possible, mark your name on all items as Camp Jubilee will not be responsible for lost items. Item Description Packed 4 Complete changes of clothing (1 set per day, plus extra as you may get wet!) 3 Pairs of shoes: [1] Closed-toe, outdoor shoes (i.e. running shoes) [2] Indoor shoes or slippers for use in the Dining Hall, Jubilee Lodge, and cabins [3] Water shoes/sandals/neoprene socks or old shoes that can be worn in the water Rain jacket / Rain Pants (Gore-Tex or ‘waterproof’ fabics) Warm jacket / pants (Fleece, Wool , NO COTTON!) Recommend a ‘wicking layer’ Warm hat and gloves Flashlight Personal toiletries (towel, cloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, brush, etc.) Sleeping bag (or blankets/quilt) and pillow Sun hat, swim suit, extra towel and sunscreen Water bottle 2 Large garbage bags (for wet and/or dirty clothes) Wet Suit or Dry Suit (wet suits for rent $10-$25) Paddles & PFD’s are supplied but bring your own if you have them Signed waiver forms (See Appendix D, E & F) There is always the possibility of rain or ‘splash’ in the canoes so please: Keep electronic equipment in a waterproof container (Ziploc Bag) Make sure that gear is in a waterproof container or bag. (Backpacks lined on the inside with plastic garbage bags will work.) ©Camp Jubilee Retreat & Conference Centre 6 APPENDIX D Waiver Form—Camp Jubilee Camp Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre Acknowledgment of Risks and Agreement to Hold Harmless To be completed by parent/guardian on behalf of dependent/camper or by individual (over 19 years of age) participating in activities. I, (/participant/parent/guardian) of (participant name), recognize that my dependent will be involved in outdoor activities at Camp Jubilee. Activities involved in this camp may include (but are not limited to) hiking, outtrips, orienteering, canoeing, rock climbing/rappelling, ropes courses, sports and games, swimming, archery, kayaking, row boating as well as various leadership activities and team building challenges and initiatives. I understand that outdoor activities present to the participant a wide variety of risks, hazards and conditions, not all of them easily foreseeable, which could result in any type of physical or emotional injury. These conditions may include, but are not limited to uneven terrain, changeable weather conditions, animal and plant life, and use of assorted vehicles, gear and equipment including various types of safety gear. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in this activity that are in my control. My child does not have to participate in the activities if they do not feel comfortable or confident in doing so. I certify that my child has no medical or physical conditions which could interfere with their safety, or else I am willing to assume – and bear the costs of – all risks that may be created, directly or indirectly, by any such condition. I understand that Camp Jubilee will approach this trip with both care and planning. While the trip is underway, they will endeavor to instruct, protect and care for the well being of my dependent as I would in their place, including making decisions regarding the medical care of my dependent. I also understand that, following all trip activities that they will continue to maintain professional standards of behavior regarding my dependent. I understand that my dependent will be expected to uphold standards of behavior. (S)he will be expected to listen to and honour any request, suggestion, advice or rule given by the staff or employees with the understanding that this is in the best interest of all participants. (S)he will be expected to act with responsibility and care for themselves, and for others on the trip. I am aware that there are risks involved in this program, and have decided that I am prepared to allow my dependent to participate in the program and all activities involved in the program. I am content to allow them to proceed on the trip as they wish. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge and agree to indemnify and hold harmless Camp Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre including the Children’s Jubilee Summer Camp Association and Indian Arm Management Services Ltd. from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, which are in anyway connected with my child’s participation in this activity or use of Camp Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre equipment or facilities. TO: Ridge Wilderness Adventures Ltd. and its directors, managers, officers, employees, volunteers, agents, representatives, contractors, subcontractors, the owner’s of facilities where Activities are held, successors and assigns (hereinafter collectively referred to as “THE RELEASEES”). DEFINITION – This agreement shall apply to all activities, events or services provided, arranged, organized, sponsored or authorized by the Releasees, including but not limited to: canoeing, camping, hiking, meals, swimming, instructional sessions, first aid training, activities and games, day tours, multi-day trips, transportation or travel by motorized boat, loading and unloading of boats, transportation or travel to and from locations used for the Activities; (hereinafter referred to as “the Activities”). ACKNOWLEDGEMENT – SAFETY I acknowledge that the risk of injury from the Activities is significant, including the potential for permanent paralysis and death, and while particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury and death does exist. I acknowledge that I have been advised to wear a personal flotation device at all times while in a canoe. ASSUMPTION OF RISKS – I am aware that participation in the Activities involves risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to: slips and falls while boarding or disembarking from the canoe or motorized boat; overturning of the canoe; hypothermia due to exposure to very cold water; drowning; variation in the water conditions, surfaces and currents, including high waves, tides and river currents; changing and inclement weather conditions including storms, high wind and lightening; collision with rocks, trees, logs, deadfall, boating equipment and other canoes, or motorized boats; equipment failure; accidents that occur while hiking and camping including steep slopes in their natural state that may contain many obstacles and hazards, and terrain that may not have been traveled on or climbed before and is not regularly patrolled or inspected; variation in the terrain including holes, depressions, loose gravel, rocks, mud, roots, seaweed, algae, barnacles, forest deadfall, rocks, or other natural or man-made objects on or adjacent to the trails; integrity of man-made structures including tent platforms, benches, tables, toilets; burns from fire, stove or hot liquid; minor injuries such as slivers, cuts and bruises; infection from open wounds; inability to obtain emergency medical assistance due to remoteness of locations; encounters with wild and domestic animals, becoming lost or separated from one’s guide/instructor, or party; failure to act safely or within one’s ability or to stay within designated areas; and negligence of other persons. I AM AWARE THAT ONE OF THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS OF THE ACTIVITIES IS NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES, INCLUDING THE FAILURE OF THE RELEASEES TO SAFEGUARD OR PROTECT ME FROM THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS OF THE ACTIVITIES, SOME OF WHICH ARE REFERRED TO ABOVE. This Agreement shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, assigns and representatives, in the event of my death or incapacity. 4. This Agreement and any rights, duties and obligations as between the parties to this agreement shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and no other jurisdiction. 5. Any litigation involving the parties to this Agreement shall be brought solely within the Province of British Columbia and shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Province of British Columbia. I am responsible for all costs of rescue or medical attention rendered to me, or for my benefit, arising from the Activities and I indemnify and hold harmless the Releasees from any and all liability in respect of any and all such costs. 7. I acknowledge that while participating in the Activities the Releasees may capture my image through video or photography or any other technological means (the “Photo”). I agree to allow them to take my Photo and permit them to use it in any form and for any purpose and forever release and indemnify them from any liability for the use of such Photo. I acknowledge that they will own the copyright and right to reuse such photo without my right to examine or approve the products and publications that contain the Photo. MARINE LIABILITY ACT – The Marine Liability Act, S.C. 2001, c. 6, may limit the liability of the Releasees in the event of an accident resulting in injury or death. In entering into this Agreement, I am not relying on any oral or written representations or statements made by the Releasees with respect to the safety of the Activities, other than what is set forth in this Agreement. "Athletic Activities" includes but is not limited to contact and non-contact sports, fitness activities, personal training instruction and activities, use of facilities, and fitness programs and services provided to the Participant by the Organization. 2. I am aware that there are inherent and significant risks ("Risks") associated with the participation in Athletic Activities. I am aware the those Risks include but are not limited to the potential for serious personal injury caused by any event or any condition of the facility or equipment where Athletic Activities are provided by the Organization, and health risks such as transient light headedness, fainting, abnormal blood pressure, chest discomfort, muscle cramps or soreness, and nausea. I understand the Risks are relative to my own state of fitness and health (physical, mental and emotional), and to the awareness, care and skill with which I conduct myself while participating in Athletic Activities. 3. I freely accept and fully assume all responsibility for all Risks and possibilities of personal injury, death, property damage or loss resulting from my participation in Athletic Activities. I agree that although the Organization has taken steps to reduce the Risks and increase safety of the Athletic Activities, it is not possible for the Organization to make the Athletic Activities completely safe. I accept these Risks and agree to the terms of this waiver even if the Organization is found to be negligent or in breach of any duty of care or any obligation to me in my participation in Athletic Activities. 4. I acknowledge my obligation to immediately inform the nearest employee or others of the Organization if I feel any pain, discomfort, fatigue or other symptoms that I may suffer during and immediately after my participation in Athletic Activities. I understand that I may stop participation at any time, and I may be requested to stop by an employee or others of the Organization who observes any symptoms of distress or abnormal response. 5. I confirm that I have reached the age of majority in the province or territory in which I am participating in Athletic Activities. 6. In addition to consideration given to the Organization for my participation in Athletic Activities, I and my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and assigns, (collectively my "Legal Representatives"), agree: a. to waive all claims that I may have in the future against the Organization; b. to release and forever discharge the Organization from all liability for all personal injury, death, property damage, or loss resulting from my participation in the Fitness Activities due to any cause, including but not limited to negligence (failure to use such care as a reasonably prudent and careful person would use under similar circumstances), breach of any duty imposed by law, breach of contract or mistake or error of judgment o the Organization; and c. to be liable for and to hold harmless and indemnify the Organization from all actions, proceedings, claims, damages, costs de mands including court costs and costs on a solicitor and own client basis, and liabilities of whatsoever nature or kind arising out of or in any way connected with my participation in Athletic Activities. 7. I agree that this waiver and all terms contained within are governed exclusively by the laws of the Province or Territory of Canada in which the Athletics Activities are provided to me by the Organization. I hereby irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that Province or Territory. Any litigation to enforce this waiver must be instituted in the Province or Territory in which the Athletic Activities are provided by the Organization. 8. I confirm that I have had sufficient time to read and understand each term in this waiver in its entirety, and have agreed to the terms freely and voluntarily.
