The numbers are staggering:
600,000 to 800,000 people – mostly women and children – are trafficked across national
boarders annually and is a $180 billion industry. 100,000 American children fall victim to
sex trafficking each year.
Maggie told us of several cases locally, mostly in rural areas, where this had
occurred, the perpetrators were caught and the victims provided assistance – which will
be needed for a significant length of time.

have teamed up to implement S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) into

Davenport Hotels. This program, aims to train hotel staff on indicators of sex trafficking
and what to do should they suspect trafficking in their hotel. Soap bars that have the
National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline on the wrappers are also provided
free of charge to the hotels as a resource for women and children trapped in
trafficking.

The President’s Message
Ok! Now it's really time to put your winter coats away. I was going by the Johnson
Almanac but old man winter got in the way and messed me up. I guess it is time for
spring cleaning that is if you’re up to it. Me; I just take one day at a time to get done.
Have you ever asked yourself this question? Why did I join the Exchange club
and what did I get out of joining Exchange? I am sure all of you have heard many
versions of why people join Exchange, so I am going to tell you my version. I never
had much of anything I could call my own. From the time I was two years old until I
was seven I lived in a DP Camp (Displaced Persons Camp) and slept in a Quonset
Hut somewhere in Germany. We sleep on cots that stood high off the ground to keep
us away from the rats. As I remember it, we eat one meal a day which mostly
consisted of some kind of gravy. Sometimes we got meat and milk with our meal, but that was not very often. I
finally came to the USA and as I grew older I found myself volunteering at the young age of 10 and it continued
on into my adulthood. In fact it got to a point where I had trouble saying no. Now here I am 30 something plus (ha,
ha) were I have gotten to a point in my life I had to say no. My life as a volunteer has been a good one with hard
work, lots of fun, and I have become more knowledgeable about the needs of others and much more. The
following is some of the areas I volunteered in: Junior Isaac Walton League 8 yrs., I formed a group called Teens
for Crippled Children 2 yrs., Knights of Columbus 4yrs., Davenport Moose Lodge 11yrs,. Davenport JC's 11yrs.,
WQPT 21yrs., John Deere Classic 31yrs., Election Judge 18 yrs., Habitat For Humanity Quad Cities 21yrs.,
National Exchange Club 20 yrs. and American Legion 12 yrs., Someone has cared about me when I was a child
so now it's my turn to give back to those who need it the most. So you see my friends that's why I joined
Exchange. So, for all the people you have helped don't ever forget those smiling faces, and the look of joy and
contentment in their eyes. That's reward enough for me. I thank God my wife and all the Exchangites who helped
me be the best that I could be.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month!
Lincolnland Convention
The Lincolnland District Convention will be June 2628, 2015 in Quincy, IL at the Stoney Creek Inn.
Hotel reservations should be received by May 25,
2015 and should be made as early as possible. The
room rates are $81 (plus applicable taxes) per night.
The convention kicks off on Thursday, June 25 at 1
p.m. when Spring Lake Country Club hosts a shot-gun
start golf tournament. Join members of the Quincy
Exchange Club for an afternoon of fun. Thursday
evening, they will recognize the golfers and have an
early-bird reception at the golf course.
Friday’s activities include a presentation by national
recognized
motivational speaker
Bobbe White and aan
old-fashioned hog
roast and
entertainment at
historic Villa Katherine.
You know, Quincy is just a little over 2.5 hour drive.

will be July 29-August 1, 2015 in
Columbus, OH.

Hobo Chili Photos
March 14, 2015 – a bad day in Port Byron - the original Hobo Chili Night date, but a water main break resulting in
no water (or toilets) caused us to cancel and reschedule for a week later – the 21st. I say “ we” because it was at
our house: Karl (Editor) & Mary Jean Adlon. Originally, 17 were coming but 12 made it to the replacement event.

It also happened to be
“someone’s” birthday, which
gave Mary Jean an excuse
to get an Old Towne Bakery
cake. Yum!
So where we originally had 8 people in the dining room and 4 in the sunroom, we squeezed all 12 of us in for cake.
This was doubly nice as we all got to talk as a group rather than being split up. I forget all the topics we talked
about, but I do remember that we all enjoyed each other’s company and had a fun time.
And we had functioning toilets!

of Golden Deeds to the Bunny
Hoppers.
They are a group of 4 sisters that
travels to nursing homes, one
dressed in a bunny outfit, who
presents a plush stuffed animal to
each resident.
To assist them in their work (is it
work or fun?), please bring one or
more stuffed animals to the May
21st meeting.
