Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 2007 VDJ79 1992 FZJ80 OZ Over 60 years of heritage 1991 HDJ80 JP 1988 FJ62 1986 FJ60 1977 FJ45 1970 FJ40 1957 FJ25 One summer day back in 1951, the first Land Cruiser, then called the BJ, started up the side of Mt. Fuji and accomplished a feat no other vehicle in history had managed to achieve. It climbed to Checkpoint No. 6, a spot so high up the mountainside it was thought to be unreachable by motor vehicle. The event signaled more than just the triumph of one vehicle over a formidable challenge. It marked the birth of a legend. Since its impressive debut, Land Cruiser has developed a loyal following unmatched by any other SUV in the world. From the rugged machine of those early days, to the model of refinement it is today, Land Cruiser continues to be a symbol of capability, innovation and quality. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices Many SUVs perform well either on the highway or on the dirt, but fail to do well on both. Armed with features like Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) and 4WD with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Land Cruiser delivers optimum performance on or off the pavement. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 5.7L V8 Dual Independent VVT-i With Land Cruiser’s power and torque at your disposal, even the most inhospitable terrain will not intimidate you. The 5.7-liter Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 32-valve V8 employs Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS). These advanced technologies help the engine produce 381 hp and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. Robust Towing Sooner or later in your travels you may need to pull something. And when that time arrives, you’ll be ready with the capable Land Cruiser. Its powerful V8, 6-speed automatic transmission and torque-enhancing gear ratios endow it with an incredible 8200-lb. towing capacity.[1] Trailer-Sway Control (TSC)[2] Stability is crucial to towing and Land Cruiser has you covered. It features a technology called Trailer-Sway Control (TSC), which helps counteract vehicle yaw caused by trailer oscillation, helping keep you in command at all times. 1. See footnote 2 in Disclosures section. 2. See footnote 28 in Disclosures section. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices Multi-Terrain Monitor [1] Multi-Terrain Select This remarkable feature gives you a look at the front, side and rear areas of the vehicle from the comfort of the driver’s seat while off-roading. Shown on the 8-in. navigation screen, the images help you double-check your blind spots and examine your immediate surroundings for potential trouble. Multi-terrain Select ensures that the driver has the maximum amount of traction possible for any off-road scenario. The driver chooses from five available modes — Mud & Sand, Rock, Rock & Dirt, Loose Rock and Mogul — to best match the terrain being negotiated. The system optimizes throttle and brake control, helping to limit wheelspin and wheel lockup. Multi-Terrain 4-Wheel ABS with EBD Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) ABS sensors detect wheel lockup during emergency braking situations, and the system helps compensate by “pulsing” individual wheel brakes. Land Cruiser’s ABS also features Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), which redistributes brake force to help keep the rear wheels from locking up during sudden braking situations. By adapting to off-road conditions such as sand, gravel or mud, this standard Multi-terrain 4-wheel ABS is ideally suited for adventure. When driving at speed in a straight line, you don’t want the vehicle to change direction with every slight movement of the steering wheel. In town, however, when negotiating tight turns and when parking, you want the steering to be responsive. VGRS is designed to keep Land Cruiser’s steering relaxed at speed, and progressively more responsive as your speed drops. Torsen®[2] Limited-Slip Differential The Torsen,® or torque-sensing, differential is engineered to automatically send more torque to the wheel or axle with more traction, helping provide greater grip and better turning on uncertain surfaces. 1. See footnote 15 in Disclosures section. 2. See footnote 31 in Disclosures section. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 4WD with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) The only thing better than the confidence of 4WD is 4WD with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and a Torsen®[1] locking center differential. By interpreting data from the ABS wheel-speed sensors, A-TRAC can tell if a drive wheel is turning faster than a nondrive wheel, which indicates loss of traction. The system can then automatically reduce engine power until the wheel that is slipping slows and regains traction. If reducing engine power isn’t enough, the braking system will gradually slow that wheel through pulsed brake action. 5-Speed Crawl Control (CRAWL)[2] Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) Go where few other vehicles can. Crawl Control (CRAWL) helps control the throttle and brake in tough terrain allowing the driver to focus on steering, and with Off-road Turn Assist (OTA), negotiation of tight corners and off-road drivability are enhanced. Many traditional suspension systems perform well on the highway, but fall short when it comes to off-road performance. KDSS automatically optimizes suspension performance both on and off the pavement. On the road, it helps suppress body roll to enhance cornering performance. Off-road, it relaxes sway control on rough terrain for increased wheel articulation. This helps tires maintain contact with the ground on uneven terrain and minimizes body tilt. 1. See footnote 31 in Disclosures section. 2. See footnote 32 in Disclosures section. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 1 Suspension Land Cruiser is equipped with an independent double-wishbone suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar up front, and a 4-link rear with coil springs stabilizer bar and semi-floating axle in the rear. Trustworthy? You bet. Land Cruiser’s reputation is riding on it. 3 Rigid Frame Land Cruiser boasts the strength of bodyon-frame construction. Using high-tensile steel, our engineers optimized the shape and thickness of the frame components to help increase joint strength and keep vehicle curb weight down. In addition, key suspension components have been optimized to enhance overall ride quality. 5 6-Speed Automatic Land Cruiser’s automatic transmission not only offers the smooth shifting of six speeds, but also incorporates advanced features such as Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) sequential shift mode and uphill/ downhill shift logic. 2 Skid Plates Land Cruiser’s underside is equipped with reinforced skid plates to help protect the front suspension, radiator, fuel tank and transfer case. 2 4 Stainless Steel Exhaust In addition to being corrosion resistant, Land Cruiser’s exhaust system has been designed for performance. To help reduce back pressure, two independent exhaust tubes have been used to transport exhaust from either side of the V8 engine to the main muffler. Plus, the edges on the outer muffler casing have been removed to enhance uneven-terrain driving performance. 6 1 5 3 Multi-Terrain 4-Wheel ABS ABS sensors detect wheel lockup during emergency braking situations, and the system helps compensate by “pulsing” individual wheel brakes. 2 4 6 Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 1 Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers Using a combination of LEDs that send out infrared rays and photo diodes that receive the rays, the sensor on Land Cruiser’s rainsensing windshield wiper system is designed to detect water on the windshield and adjust the wiper speed accordingly. The wipers are fully automatic, but also have a manual control for conventional operation. 2 Headlight Cleaners Concealed in the front bumper, Land Cruiser’s headlight cleaner system uses a high-pressure pump to lift sprayers from the bumper, and then rinses the headlights with windshield wiper fluid. The system employs a precise fan pattern to help keep fluid spray off the windshield and hood. 1 3 2 3 High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights (and LED Accent Lights) Capable of producing whiter, more brilliant light than a traditional halogen bulb of the same size, HID lightbulbs also use less electricity and last several times longer. HID lights are filled with pressurized xenon gas that is ignited by a pair of electrodes, effectively turning the gas into a white-hot filament. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices Front- and Second-Row Seat Comfort Both front seats offer the comfort of power adjustability, multi-stage heating and ventilation. The second-row seats offer heating for the passengers in back. Perforated Leather When adventuring in Land Cruiser, roughing it is relative. Its luxurious seats offer plush perforated leather trim. Leather-Trimmed Heated Steering Wheel No need to leave civility behind when you venture above the timberline. Land Cruiser’s steering wheel is not only leather-trimmed, but also heated. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices It’s true that Land Cruiser offers everything that’s needed for an expedition to the farthest corners of the globe. Five doors, seating for eight and a 40/20/40 split-fold second row that lets you transform seats into extra cargo space. But this versatile interior is also the picture of refinement. With features like a leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, wood-grain-style trim and ventilated front seats, Land Cruiser is that rare vehicle that lets you go forth in comfort. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices Color Multi-Information Display As the name suggests, the MultiInformation Display serves up valuable info on a variety of vehicle functions and systems, and does so in color. The driver is provided with data relating to fuel economy, trip and vehicle information. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) [1] This standard feature automatically adjusts vehicle speed to help you maintain a preset following distance between your vehicle and the vehicle traveling directly in front of you. Smart Key System [2] Better to search for adventure than for your keys. When you approach Land Cruiser with the Smart Key fob in your pocket or bag, the interior illuminates automatically, the doors unlock when you touch any door handle, the back hatch opens with the touch of its handle and the engine starts with the push of a button. 1. See footnote 17 in Disclosures section. 2. See footnote 19 in Disclosures section. Third-Row Versatility The third-row seats offer 50/50 split fold-down functionality, plus they fold away for maximum cargo capacity. Center Console Cooler Box Beneath the armrest on Land Cruiser’s center console, there’s an available cooler box that can accommodate as many as six 12-oz. water bottles. The next time you’re traversing the arid Sahara Desert in northern Africa, you’ll thank us. Second-Row Versatility The second-row seats are heated and offer 40/20/40 split and fold-down options. Plus, they slide, recline, tumble and feature comfortable armrests. Four-Zone Automatic Climate Control With Land Cruiser’s four-zone automatic climate control, the driver, front passenger and two secondrow passengers can each control their own individual environments. In fact, there are a total of 28 vents located throughout the cabin to further enhance everyone’s comfort. Standard Roof Rack Uncommonly remote expeditions may require that you carry some of your gear on the roof. The sturdy roof rack tops off Land Cruiser’s impressive list of standard features. Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof Make your next adventure an open-air experience. Land Cruiser’s available power moonroof does more than just tilt and slide — it inspires. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices Side-Impact Door Beams Crumple Zones Pre-Collision System (PCS)[1] 2 3 1 1. See footnote 27 in Disclosures section. Heritage Capability Interior Safety Choices 1 Pre-Collision System (PCS)[1] Using a radar unit located in the vehicle’s front grille, PCS monitors the position of the vehicle relative to other vehicles and certain objects in the road directly ahead. If PCS determines that a collision is imminent, the Brake Assist (BA)[2] system is placed in standby mode, a warning is displayed and a buzzer sounds. If PCS determines that a collision is unavoidable, the system will still alert the driver via a warning light, warning display and buzzer, apply the brakes and automatically retract the driver and front passenger seatbelts to help prepare for such a scenario. 2 Crumple Zones An important element of occupant protection, crumple zones are structurally engineered to absorb and dissipate the energy of a collision by a process known as controlled deformation. 3 Side-Impact Door Beams 4 Active Front Headrests[3] In certain lower-speed, rear-end collisions, a bracket and cable system in the lower region of the front seats trigger the upward movement of the headrests to help position them to the back of the occupants’ heads. 5 Ten Airbags[4] and More Land Cruiser comes with ten standard airbags that cover every row of seats and include driver and front passenger knee airbags. The front seats also incorporate active front headrests, which can help reduce the severity of whiplash injuries. 6 Safety Connect®[5] Via Toyota’s 24/7 call center, available Safety Connect® offers subscribers helpful features such as Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification. Safety Connect® also offers the reliability of embedded cellular and GPS technology. 7 Star Safety System™ The 2015 Land Cruiser, like every new Toyota, comes standard with the Star Safety System,™ a suite of six advanced safety features designed to help keep drivers out of harm’s way. On Land Cruiser, the system includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),[6] Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Multi-terrain 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology ® (SST).[7] 8 Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS)[8] Maintaining proper tire pressure is important. TPMS evaluates the pressure of the tires, provides a direct readout and issues a warning if the pressure becomes critically low. To help provide extra occupant protection when the vehicle is struck from the side, steel beams are located inside all doors and designed to absorb energy and reduce the chance of intrusion into the cabin. 1. Please see your Owner’s Manual for important instructions and cautions. 18. The Toyota Tire Pressure Monitor alerts the driver when tire pressure is critically low. For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge; do not rely solely on the monitor system. See your Owner’s Manual for details. 19. The Smart Key System may interfere with some pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators. If you have one of these medical devices, please talk to your doctor to see if you should deactivate this system. 20. HomeLink® is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls, Inc. 21. Available on select Toyota models. Contact with the Safety Connect® response center is dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability, navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, which can limit the ability to reach the response center or receive emergency service support. Enrollment and Telematics Subscription Service Agreement required. One-year trial subscription available only with new vehicle purchase of Safety Connect®equipped vehicles. Additional subscription terms available; charges vary by subscription term selected. 22. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 23. Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions. 24. Smart Stop Technology® operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and accelerator pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology® is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 25. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owner’s Manual for further information/warnings. 26. Active front headrests can help reduce the extent of whiplash in certain types of rear-end collisions. 27. The Pre-Collision System is designed to help reduce the crash speed and damage in certain frontal collisions only. It is not a collision-avoidance system and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as speed, driver input and road conditions. See your Owner’s Manual for further information. 28. Trailer-Sway Control (TSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether TSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 29. Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) is designed to help minimize backward rolling on steep ascents. It is not a substitute for safe driving judgment and practices. Factors including grade, surface conditions and driver input can all affect whether HAC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 30. The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or Smart Key fob matches the code in the vehicle’s immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or Smart Key fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or Smart Key fob, your Toyota dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org 31.
