Dear Friends:
The Donelson Fall Festival & BBQ was a huge success despite
the rain!! Stay tuned while we tally up the total raised.
This event would not be a success without all the support from the
members and community. While I can’t list everyone here, I want
to point out a few who went above and beyond. As always the
Davidson County Sheriff’s Office was amazing in getting the tents

First, a reminder that our Program Committee will meet at 11:30

our group to meet us in the auditorium on that date. I would love
to hear your ideas about future trips and events!
You will see our Stacked Box Project advertised this month. I
need members to get involved with this project on October 15 at 2
pm. It’s just pure fun, and all of the centers are participating. We
will unveil our finished product on October 29 at the Brentwood
Center. You do not need to have any artistic talent to do this!

This group will be meeting Monday,
October 12 and Monday, October
26 at 10 am. Anyone is welcome to
join! The “garden gatherers” have
done a fantastic job keeping the
grounds of FiftyForward beautifully
landscaped. Bring your ideas and
creative plans to share with the
group. Some of their upcoming
ideas include: a trip to the
Hermitage to see the gardens that
the Master Gardeners tend,
propagate Christmas Cactus and
finish up Christmas tree

Pet Community Center
The Pet community Center will be stationed in
FiftyForward’s parking lot on Thurs., Oct. 22
from 1 -5 pm. If you missed out last month,
this is your chance! No appointment is
necessary. Services include vaccinations,
heartworm testing, microchips, flea/tick
medication and more for $15 and under! All of
these services are important to the health of
your pet. Microchipping alone has resulted in
thousands of animals being reunited with their
family members. They also do spaying and
neutering at their facility starting at $37. Call

There will be two informational benefit presentations in October on Medicare’s open
enrollment. Join Ronda from HealthSpring on October 8 or October 22 at 9:45 am.
She will answer any questions you have about changing your existing plan and

Author Jean Roseman Presents “Dinah Shore”—Mon., Oct. 5 at 10 am. Remember Dinah
Shore? The exuberant, mid-century singing dynamo? The USO entertainer who sang to troops
on the battle field? The movie star who played with the greats of the era? The first woman
television personality with her own show? That Chevrolet song? That special kiss? Join Jean
Roseman in remembering that hometown girl, Dinah Shore. This is FREE!
“Mystery Lunch #1 and #2—Tues., Oct. 6 OR Wed., Oct. 7. Join us for an
undisclosed and tasty adventure as we embark to a “mystery” restaurant that
we hope satisfies your taste buds. Leave the center both days at 10:45 am. The
cost for the van is $6. Please write down the date you choose.
Brunch at Le Peep & Chaffin’s Barn “Arsenic & Old Lace” -Thurs., Oct. 8. Enjoy a delicious
crepe, snow white eggs or Peasant Potatoes at Le Peep before heading to see “Arsenic & Old
Lace” at Chaffin’s Barn. This dark comedy involves Mortimer Brewster who falls for the girl next
door, and they tie the knot on Halloween. When the newlyweds return home, they find a corpse
hidden in their window seat. With his eccentric aunts, homicidal brother and disturbed uncle,
Mortimer realizes his family is crazier than he thought. Leave the center at 9:30 am. Cost for the
van and ticket is $25.
Southern Festival of Books–Fri., Oct. 9. This is a FREE Festival which brings over 200 of
the nation’s most prominent authors, from legendary mystery writers to critically acclaimed debut
novelists, poets, biographers, chefs and children’s authors. Every author on the program takes
part in the session, either a solo reading or panel discussion. Leave the center at 10:45 am. Cost
for the van is $5 (you will leave the festival at 4 pm).
Bluebird cafe– Mon., Oct. 12. Join us at the legendary Bluebird café for a FREE concert
and FREE donuts and coffee sponsored by Hands on Nashville. The entertainment never
disappoints at the Bluebird. Cost for the van is $5. Leave the center at 9:15 am.
Amish Settlement Tour-Wed. Oct 14. Explore the Amish community
in a horse-drawn wagon! We will visit the largest “Old Order Amish
Settlement” located in Ethridge, TN. This includes a first-hand look at life
on the Amish Farms where you can purchase some of their hand-made
crafts. Enjoy lunch “Amish” style and visit with the “plain folks” who love
their “simple” lifestyle. Cost is $20 for the van, tour and wagon ride (this does not include lunch).
Leave the center at 8:15 am. (Make sure you are physically able to get in and out of the wagon).
Stacked Box Project– Thurs., Oct. 15. Meet in the Art Room at 2 pm and join us for a fun
day of painting to complete our Stacked Box Project. No art experience needed! Just show up
and have fun with others while we paint and listen to music! Our finished project will be displayed
October 29 at the FiftyForward in Brentwood. Sign up in the office or volunteer desk.
Keith Sargent at the Knowles Center “Singing Through the Decades” -Mon., Oct. 19. Keith
Sargent is a born entertainer. He has appeared on the Tonight Show, Dinah, Celebrity Review and
more! He features music from the 40’s through the 80’s including big band, country, classic rock,
show tunes and Gospel. Leave the center at 10 am. Cost for the van and performance is $6.

Diabetes Education Session-Tues., Oct. 20 at 10 am. You are invited to a FREE education
session on diabetes management from Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE’s). You will learn what
diabetes is, the importance of checking blood sugar levels, A1C and how it affects blood sugar,
meal planning and exercise, medical tests and types of medication that helps manage blood
sugar. Sign up in the front office.
Lunchbunch to Gerst Haus-Tues., Oct. 20. Since 1955 the Gerst Haus has been a Nashville
favorite, providing the best in German food in an authentic beer hall atmosphere. The menu
includes recipes handed down from old German and Swiss families. Enjoy German sausages, hot
potato salad, Reuben's and so much more! Cost for the van is $5. Leave the center at 10:45 am.
Tour and Lunch at Shadowbrook Mansion-Wed., Oct. 21. Tour this beautiful English Tudor
mansion nestled in the hills of middle TN. Shadowbrook was built in 1929 from native stone and
massive hand-hewn virgin timbers. The mansion was patterned after the beautiful castles in
Scotland. The ivy around the estate was actually transplanted from Edinburgh Castle. Enjoy an
elegant dining experience after the tour. Cost for the van, lunch and tour is $30. Leave the center
at 10:30 am.
Pet Community Center-Thurs., Oct. 22 from 1pm-5pm. Be sure to take
advantage of the Pet Community Center’s services for $15 and less including
vaccinations, microchips, flea and tick medication and heartworm testing. No
appointment necessary. Just show up! They will be parked in the FiftyForward
Donelson Station parking lot.
Consignment Shopping-Fri., Oct. 23. Shop a Donelson favorite, Treasures Consignment,
where you will find all kinds of “treasures” from furniture, knick-knacks to jewelry and more! Next,
the Sugar Pea in Mt. Juliet, a classy boutique with beautiful clothes. Lunch will be at Hadley’s
Southern Kitchen in Hermitage. Cost for the van is $6. Leave the center at 10 am.
Supper 1 & 2-Tues. Oct 27 & Thurs., Oct 29. We are staying local this month! Join us at
Hermitage Steak House for their delicious salad bar, steak & lobster, jumbo shrimp and so much
more! Cost is $4 for the van. Leave the center at 5 pm.
McKays Used Bookstore-Wed., Oct. 28. McKay’s has a wonderful selection of used books,
cd’s, games and more for a very low price. Lunch will be at Newks Eatery. They serve salads,
sandwiches and items from the treasured “Newks” family recipes. Leave the center at 9:45 am.
Cost for the van is $6.
Stacked Box Reveal and Lunch-Thurs., Oct. 29. We will unveil our Stacked Box Project
with the other FiftyForward Centers and enjoy lunch on the beautiful patio at the Martin Center in
Brentwood. Meet new friends and enjoy a catered lunch. The cost is $6 for lunch and the van.
Leave the center at 10 am.
Halloween Center Lunch-Fri., Oct 30 at 11 am. It’s time to get creative and come
dressed in your Halloween costumes! There will be a prize for the winner of the best
costume contest. Spooky music, games, surprises and a delicious lunch prepared by
The Palm Tree Café. Cost is $7.

“Lifestyle
Changes” will meet Tuesday, October 13 and 27 at 9:45 am. Debbie Reilly,
LSW, will help you set goals leading to a healthier lifestyle (physically and mentally).
Join Sit and Stitch on Fridays at 10 am! We have two volunteers who will be happy to help
you with your crochet project! This is a time to talk, relax and make something pretty!
Sing-Along Choir meets Fridays at 11 am. This group has a lot of fun! They even
take their “show in the road” to assisted living centers in the area. Just show up!
Ballroom Dancing starts back October 5 at 6:45 pm. The cost is $8 per class (paid
directly to the instructor). No need to sign up!
Line Dancing is FREE and great exercise Wednesdays at 9:30 am. No experience
necessary!
Tai Chi is FREE! This class is great if you have balance issues. Tuesdays at 1:30 pm.
Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? The Grief and Loss Group meets Sunday,
October 4 at 2 pm at St. Phillips’ Church located at 85 Fairway Drive in Donelson. They
also play cards the 4th Thursday monthly at Donelson Station at 9:30 am.

FiftyForward Donelson Station’s trips and events have become more popular. To ensure
members have adequate opportunity to attend trips and events and that staff time and
center resources are properly utilized, the following polices must be followed:






All trips require a minimum of five people. Trips not meeting the minimum number will be
cancelled 24 hours in advance and credit will be given to those already signed up.
When you sign up for a trip or presentation/event, you are making a commitment to this
activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar and showing up on time. Please
remember that presenters work hard to bring education/information to the center!
There are no cash refunds for any trips.
