Justin Lay Homeschooler Weekly Volume 1, Issue VII Daniel Ditëlindje In all honesty, I’m rather glad Daniel had his birthday this week, because if he hadn’t, then I’m not sure what I would have written about. Daniel and the Homeschool group eating cake at his party Usually surprise birthday parties don’t really work because the person can guess that something is up because no one mentions the birthday coming up. This birthday surprise (as far as we know) caught Daniel Watanabe offguard. The reason? The surprise was 3 months before his actual birthday party. The Zimmermans are leaving in May, so to include them in the party the Wa- tanabe parents decided to throw an early party. After basketball practice on Saturday, everyone hurried on ahead of Daniel to get inside the house and lock the doors. When a frustrated Daniel finally got in, we were all there to yell happy birthday in his face. Hot dogs, fruit, cake and soda, or pop as the Ohioans would call it, were the lunch. After giving him our generous gifts, we played pig in basketball and penalty shootouts. We also learned a new card game: Milles Bournes. The time was ended with a fast paced game of “3-times-around-thehouse. Sports Reports A few issues ago I got rid of the sports page because there simply was not enough information to fill it and make it relevant. This issue I’m opening again with a new addition. There are literally thousands of sports out there, and many of them are quite crazy and interesting. Something interesting we can do is try to cover all different kinds of sports. Each week a different sport will be featured in the sports page. You can write your own article for a sport if you want and see it featured in the next issue! -Justin Lay Happy birthday Daniel! 1/5/11 -Justin Lay Special points of interest: Contact info for editor (p.2) Any information on events you have (p.4) Any photos of events you have (p.4) Calendar (p.4) Weekly Media Player (p.5) Inside this issue: Daniel Ditëlindje 1 Sports Reports 1 Polo 2 Calendar 3 Weekly Media Player 4 Birthday Photos 5 Cartoons 6 Page 2 Contact Info Acacia Hills Compound by Blur, the middle house Phone:+355692708456 Email: editor.hweekly.gmail.com Personal Website: j-website.yolasite.com Homeschooler Weekly Info Email: info.hweekly.gmail.com Website: h-weekly.yolasite.com Bringing you the “ooo” in homeschooler. The game is rather like soccer and golf combined… on horseback. The objective to hit a small round ball, rather like a golf ball into the opponent’s goal using a polo mallet. The game begins with both teams lined up at the middle line facing each other with some space in between. One of the umpires hits the ball hard between the two teams and the game starts. The polo players can only hit the ball with their mallets. Of course, things like attacking other players with the mallets and rough play will be called by the referee or umpires and a penalty will be awarded the offending team. However, players are allowed to block other players’ mallets with their own to prevent them from shooting or by throwing their shot off. They can also use their horses to bump into their opponents’ horse to throw off their shot or concentration. Polo was first played in Persia (modern-day Iran) around 500 B.C., and was played a training game by the king’s cavalry. -Justin Lay Volume 1, Issue VII May 2011 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Page 3 Schedule of Events Every other week: Homeschool group meeting Every Sunday: New issue. Page 4 Homeschooler Weekly Featured Artist/Album Sonicflood: Cry Holy In 2003, the original Sonicflood band all (except one) left, leaving others to take their place. This album was the result. There was some debate at that time as whether the new band members could carry on the solid, rock-versions of popular hymns and worship songs that the original members had made Sonicflood known for. This album, probably their best, dispelled any doubt. A great collection of solid, biblically founded, “church friendly” music! Great songs: Satisfied, Everyday, and Cry Holy. -Justin Lay Album Art Description Barlowgirl: Grey Barlowgirl isn‟t one of the artists I usually listen to, even though I like her style, but this song was recommended to me by Kaitlyn Stire and I liked it. Alyssa Barlow, the lead singer of her 2 other sisters in the band, sings to God about how she needs his fire and purpose in her life, in black and white, not monotonous grey. Great song! -Justin Lay Steven Curtis Chapman: Heaven is the Face In the wake of his little daughter‟s, Maria, death, Chapman made an album made for her: Beauty Will Rise. In the front song of the album: Heaven is the Face, Chapman is so forthright with his grief and longing, that all who listen to it cannot help but weep with him. Amazing song and album. -Justin Lay Lecrae: Crossover This is the third time in a row that I‟ve featured Lecrae, which can only mean one thing. I really like him. This song is one of my favorites in his album Real Talk. As the title suggests, the theme of the song is reaching out to unbelievers, crossing over to them. Even though, as he says in the intro of the song: “They‟re gonna hate this one! They‟re gonna hate us cuz we love „em so much!” -Justin Lay Charlie Hall: Better is One Day In collaborative effort with many other artists, the album Best of Passion {So Far} was made. My favorite of the album is Charlie Hall‟s Better is One Day. Charlie Hall sings about how “better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere.” As assistant “sound guy,” this song is often my choice for before and after services. Movie Suggestion: Horton Hears a Who Horton Hears a Who, a Dr. Seuss story, was taken, modified (though not much), and then reproduced into a family friendly story of a faithful elephant and a world so small it was a speck on a dandelion in our world. Horton with his sensitive hearing finds this world and is prepared to go to any lengths to protect it… Even when the leaders of the community decide that the dandelion is bad for the children of the community and throw Horton in prison. -Justin Lay Volume 1, Issue VII Photos From Daniel’s Birthday: Page 5 Page 6 Photos: Cartoons:
