Installation Options Crossarms Depending on load conditions. J.H. Baxter TimberWood Lighting Standards may be directly embedded in firm soil. Under heavy load, or in poor soil conditions, concrete embedment may be required. For parking lot instalations, the standards can be fitted with either bumper guard protection devices or a concrete collar. Laminated wood crossarms with metal raceway inserts are available in one and two-way models. They give added flexibility of design when used with the straight standards. For acceptable combinations of length and fixture the luminaire manufacturers should be consulted. The raceway access hole for underground wireing is centered 2'6" below the ground line and rises 30° to vertical for use where underground splicing is permitted. Above ground junction boxes of various types can be used. The ground line is marked on each standard at correct depth for embedment in soil or concrete. Standardss are branded just above ground line with the date of manufacture. Various brackets, crossarms and mounts are available. J.H. Used by designers to further enhance their project’s landscape,TimberWood Light Poles may be selected from our standard product listing or customized for your project. Here is a quote recent study* by University of Oregon scientists. “ If we use the [nationwide] replacement rate, the average pole service life would easily reach 80 years in many areas of the country, far in excess of the perceived 30 to 40 years. Thus, old wood does not mean weaker wood. ” The Natural Look PROJECT: Northstar Condominium Village at Northstar Ski Resort near Truckee, CA TimberWood model 12PV pole installed using TimberWood B-1 steel base bolted to concrete and covered with stone. In the right hands of leading landscape architects or experienced developers, wood becomes like an artist’s clay by enhancing the material’s natural beauty as it is placed back into nature’s surroundings. The designer uses wood with confidence because it is truly a natural and renewable raw material. While solar power gains in popularity, we recognize that wood has grown from the physical power of the sun since the beginning of time. TimberWood Light Poles fit naturally into many environments—most predominantly into rural and suburban settings. From housing developments to recreational and resort settings, entertainment and sports venues to shopping centers and industrial parks, wood can provide the warmth and pleasing appearance while fulfilling the functional and structural need.To enhance local community projects, many investor-owned and public utilities specify TimberWood because their customers prefer the esthetic look of wood. • Decades of Superior Performance • Lowest Installed Cost • Easy to Install, Easy to Maintain Average Installation Cost Per Foot $18.90 $15.21 $8.83 $16.20 PROJECT: Village North Condominiums near Truckee, CA TimberWood model 8815PV pole and matching bollards. 8” x 8” square poles and posts with center lighting channel. Baxter TimberWood Light Poles are engineered and laminated from Pacific Coastal Douglas-fir utilizing waterproof glue. Knots, checks, color and grain variations are kept to enhance and present the natural characteristics of wood. Checking may appear over time. This process does not harm the strength or integrity of the light pole.TimberWood may be stained if other than a natural color is desired. However like with any stained product, periodical maintenance to re-stain the structure may be desired. Key Benefits of Wood Light Poles • Flexible, Resilient & Strong Wood poles already have substantial advantages over other materials because wood is renewable, sustainable, generates less greenhouse gases during manufacture, and provides a longterm repository for atmospheric carbon. Prolonging the useful life of a wood pole further enhances the carbon footprint through requiring less replacement activities, keeping thousands of tons of carbon stored in the existing pole plant (i.e. a utility distribution and transmission system) and allowing growing replacements to continue carbon sequestration in the forest.* Composite Steel Aluminum Concrete Source: Edison Electric Chart from Shakespeare Composite Structures • Natural, Renewable & Sustainable • Provides long-term repository for atmospheric carbon While various heights and widths are available, the majority of TimberWood models are square to rectangular in shape. Many designers and contractors looking for a fresh, new look specify the _____ HEX model. The HEX is a six-sided shaped standard providing an updated design with additional angles and dimension. Measured luminaire weights and EPA loading criteria are easily calculated using formulas available upon request. • Generates less greenhouse gases during manufacture * University of Oregon, Dec. 2008 PROJECT: Pronhorn Golf Resort Community near Bend, OR TimberWood Custom pole and crossarm, both 6” x 6 ¾”.
