Program - Brandon League of Fine Arts
May 2016
Volume 57 - Issue 35
Program
Monday May 16th
“Paint it - Take it”
with Bonnie Phillips
6:30 - 7:15 pm
For April: Adult Coloring Book
Coloring is relaxing, therapeutic, relieves stress and is fun. Color pages for your journal,
cards or even to frame.
Bring a set colored pencils or markers if you have them. There will be some supplies.
The program following our General Meeting will be:
Work on Yupo Paper
Demonstration
Artist: Barbara Ann Tudek
following our 7:30pm meeting.
Barbara’s Bio:
I attended the Ridgewood School of Art (Ridgewood New Jersey) and studied fine
arts. Among my studies were oil painting, life drawing, surface anatomy, sculpture, pottery and silk screen. Studied oil painting under Helen Van Wyk author
and famous oil painter; her television program is called welcome to my studio.
I moved from New Jersey to Vermont where I lived for several years and continued my very traditional oil painting and water color. I was an organic gardener
and worked for Vermont Public Schools.
I returned to New Jersey where I continued my education and became as School
Business Administrator. I realized at this time that the term starving artist was very true. I continued to paint and
serve the State of NJ as a School Administrator for the next 25 years.
My husband and I moved to Florida in 2010 where I continued to study
art. Since I am now retired I am able to dedicate my time to my first
love (art) without the restrictions of a very demanding career. I have
been studying experimental water media at the Art Center of Manatee
and I am a member of the Brandon League of Fine Art. I have broken
away from my very traditional style of paint to a whole new world of
creativity.
I have been painting with air brush paint, acrylics, liquid water color,
various dyes, yupo and masa paper and enjoying every minute of it. I
am currently giving small group art instruction in my home studio.
From the President
Dear Members,
Our May Demonstrator is Barbara Tudek who has been painting with air
brush paint, acrylics, liquid water color, various dyes on yupo and masa paper. We
are going to be treated to a demonstation of her use of the paper. It proves to be an
interesting time.
We have hung the Member’s Show and the show is filled with excellent
work by our very talented members. The winners are listed in our News and
Events on page 4. The reception will be held Thursday the 19th of May. We will
have a very good time with your help. We need our members to bring finger foods
so that we have the special event that we deserve.
Betty Fairbanks sold her watercolor painting “ROOSTER” at the BAC (Bay Area Cardiology) in Brandon. We congratulate her and we are grateful for this opportunity to show and sell our work.
Three of us, Roxanne Tobaison, Doreen Donovan and I judged the first Arbor Day Art Contest of the
UF/IFAS Extension of Hillsborough County in Seffner. It was a great time as we chose the 3 winners from the 3
age groups. We will probably be more involved with this next year. We will let you all know more then.
Diane Newsome has set up another Paint-Out for us at Betty Fairbank’s place at Lake Thonotassassa
. The last Paint-Out there was really nice and produce several very special pieces of Art. She has a nice yard and a
large dock. The info is on page three. Hope to see some of you there.
We will be on our Summer Break for June and July so the Board Meeting after that will be on August 1st
and our Members Meeting after that will be on August 15th.
August has us preparing for our September Open Show “Artworks 2016”. The information and instructions
are on page 6 and 7. It is always a great show.
I hope to see you all at the meeting on Monday May 16th. We will fill you in on any more news there.
Oh, and don’t forget the Paint-Out on the 16th. The details are on page 3.
Hoping for the good health and great success of you all,
Christopher Klein
2015 BLFA President.
We want to thank Randy Matthews for his
teaching us so much about the use of our cameras
and for his generous guidance through the Circle B
Bar Reserve on a Paint-Out using cameras.
He helped us to understand the use of the
camera’s function in Wildlife Photography.
The place was beautiful and the wildlife was
abundant.
Thank you Randy and Maggie

We want to give a special Thank You to
Liz McLaughlin
for her generous continued support in having
funded the Chuck McLaughlin Memorial Award
for 15 years.
It helped to carry on Chuck’s legacy of great talent
in both Water Color and his great singing voice
that the many members who knew him will attest.
We really have appreciated this gift to our group
and give her heartfelt thanks.

by contemporary artists and points out why they
succeed as painted images.
This week, Christopher Leo Klein’s “Medard Park,
Plant City.”
Lead Image: “Medard Park, Plant City,”
by Christopher Leo Klein, walnut ink, 9 x 12 in.
A solid ink drawing with a touch of an antique
feel to it, reminiscent of the sepia botanical prints.
There is a nice range of values and a variety of
interesting textures to liven up the scene. A variety
of diagonals that counter each other help to lead
your eye around the painting.
