As winter sets in, product takes on a protective shell to the elements as soft, tactile fabrications are fundamental. Outerwear has a hairy exterior as brushed, borg, fur and woolen fabrics envelope the body. An alternative to the coat comes the blanket coat, seen with a western, Navajo look across men’s, women’s and interiors. Elsewhere animal is given a wild look this season as exotic & shaggy furs bring newness and animal prints are updated on fabrications including brushed surfaces and lurex. We see retailers bring a new twist to “Ath-Leisure” styling a hybrid of sportswear & formalwear. Tailoring is given a playful retro vibe in pop primary retro colours and with quirky checks & ginghams. Grey continues to be a core colour across the board, while camel shades are popping up as the new core tone for those who already mastered grey last year. This month we take a look at what the girls were wearing during the SS16 shows. SAMPLE SAMPLE SAMPLE 70S FOLK Channelling a carefree spirit the 70’s revival was spotted everywhere contrasting against the cityscapes. Vintage floral motifs, appliques, craft embroidery mashed alongside bold retro prints. Lacy borders and buttoned-up Victoriana blouses re-imagined sophistication with an eclectic edge. Takahashi struck out on his own in 1990 while still in fashion school, fuelled by a love of music and punk style. He was even in a Sex Pistols cover band in high school and collected vintage Vivienne Westwood Seditionaries pieces. His experimental but street-smart collections always have a note of subversion; something unsettling, that has garnered a legion of fans. Showing in Paris from 2002 helped bring the brand to an international audience. WORDS: Sophie Joy Wright IMAGES: WWD, Fashion Times, Vogue.com SAMPLE SAMPLE SAMPLE ‘The true origins of textile design and patternmaking‘ It’s not often that fashion and it’s rich history are brought together without today’s inescapable pop-culture attachment. However, the newest exhibition at the MET displays the genuine roots of the industry, with their extensive collection of textile pattern books.
