AND DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S NEWSLETTER

District Governor’s Message
DG Bert Colley
First of all, I must correct an error I made in my article last
month. I said our District LOVF rep is PDG Norma
Shoemaker. Wrong! Our LOVF rep is PDG Jack Turner.
PDG Norma is our LCIF rep. My apologies to both of you,
and to everyone who was confused by my remarks.
There are only 3 months left before I have to turn over the
reins to 1st Vice District Governor Mark Pennypacker. Mark
is ready to lead us, whether we approve redistricting or
not.
We will vote on that issue at the State Convention in
Roanoke on May 19-22. I encourage you to r to vote for
3M [Editor’s note: a list of all clubs in the proposed 3M
districts is appended to this issue].
Remember that the District will have a meeting at Marquis Methodist Church in Staunton on April 16. We will
vote to endorse PID Wayne Davis for Third Vice President of LCI. If you forgot to send me the Delegates Form,
please just bring it with you, signed by either your Club President or Secretary.
It’s time for the Incoming Officers’ Schools! We try to make it more convenient by holding them in three areas
in the District. Each one starts at 9:00 a.m. and should be over by 11:30. There are three classes at each
location: Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers. All are on Saturday~~ April 23 at the Linden Heights Baptist
Church in Staunton; April 30 at the William Monroe Middle School in Stanardsville, and May 7 at Middletown
Middle School. The schools are not limited to incoming officers; they are open to all interested Lions.
Once your Club’s Officers and Directors have been elected, remember to report the information to the State
(lions24c.org ; Club Officers Reporting Form) AND lionsclubs.org and then go to MyLCI. So much of our
communication now is being done electronically that contact information has become more important. Please
include email addresses!

Fellow Lions, thank you for the extra time and effort you are spending to
endorse me for Third Vice President of Lions Clubs International. You are
sincerely appreciated!
I know that it will be a challenge for your club’s delegates to come to Staunton
on Saturday, April 16, 2016, to the Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church
at 1614 West Beverly Street to cast your ballots, endorsing me.
Special thanks to Rev. Bob Sharp, President of the Augusta Lions Club and
District Governor Bert Colley for coordinating this meeting. The phone number
at the church is 540-886-1176.
It is exceedingly important to obtain as high a number of delegates there as
possible. MD 24 Virginia has not had a President of Lions Clubs International
for 72 years. It’s now time for District 24-C to take the first step by getting our
delegates to Staunton so our sub-district can endorse a candidate for Third Vice
President of LCI.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We appreciate everything you do for
us to make this a reality.
Sincerely,
Lions Wayne and Marge Davis

Incoming Club Officers’ Leadership Schools
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus believed that the only constant in life is change. He
famously said that “No man steps into the same river twice.” Constant change is a reality for Lions
Clubs also. Every year we change our leadership, electing new officers and directors to govern our
clubs.
To assist these new leaders to carry out their duties knowledgeably and effectively, District 24C will again offer training sessions for newly elected Lions Club presidents, secretaries, and treasurers
as well as for any Lions wanting to know more about the duties of these officers.
The dates and locations for the Incoming Club Officers’ Leadership School sessions are
o Saturday, April 23. Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton. From I-81 take Exit
220 onto VA 262. Take the US 11 Exit, turning right onto US 11 North. In less than a
mile turn left onto Lincoln Avenue. Turn left onto Linden Drive; then bear right to

Visitation Guidelines for 2015-2016
For District 24-C
Selven Powell
As we begin a new fiscal year, 2015-2016, in District 24-C it is my privilege to serve once again as your
Visitation Chairman. It is my hope that more clubs in 24-C will take the opportunity to visit other clubs and
share the positive and innovative things your club is doing.
I could assume that there are clubs making visits but are not reporting them. This year 2015-2016 as you set
your club goals and priorities please consider placing visitations at the top of your list of things to improve on.

District 24-C Visitation Program runs from July 1 through June 30. Please use the form attached to this
article when reporting visitations.
 Visits to other clubs must be reported within 10 days following a visit.
To be eligible for an award a club must meet the minimum standards outlined below:
Class A: Clubs with 30 or fewer active members. One or more members are required when visiting another
Lions club to make it an official visit. We encourage clubs to visit as many other Lions clubs as you desire, there
is no maximum or minimum requirement.
Class B: Clubs with 31-55 active members. Two or more members are required when visiting another club to
make it an official visit. We encourage clubs to visit as many other Lions clubs as you desire, there is no
maximum or minimum requirement.
Class C: Clubs with more than 55 active members. Three or more members are required when visiting another
club to make it an official visit. We encourage clubs to make as many visits to other Lion clubs as you desire,
there is no minimum or maximum requirement.

Points are awarded as follows:
A visit to another MD 24 club earns 5 points, plus a mileage factor.
An out-of-state visit earns 10 points, plus a mileage factor.
Visits to Fall Conferences, Mid-Winter Conferences, other District Conferences, State Conventions,
International Conventions, USA/Canada Forum, Pin Trader Conventions, Eyeglass Recycling Centers, Lion
Schools, Bland Contests, Zone Meetings (outside your own zone), visit to Lion International Headquarters,
LCIF cruises (if a Lions meeting is attended), projects involving Lions (such as RAM/LAMP) each earn 10
points, plus a mileage factor.
A Zone Meeting within a club’s own zone counts as 10 points for visiting clubs plus a mileage factor). Only
one visit to any club per year will be eligible for points.
The mileage factor is based on the round-trip travel distance. Distance traveled out of state or to a foreign
country, attending a Lions Club, will be awarded 10 points. Remember, visitation forms are to be submitted
to the District Visitation Chairperson, when at all practical, with 10 days following each visit using the
attached visitation form.
16
Please Note:

Any club that sends the required number of delegates to Multiple District 24’s State Convention or
the International Convention may claim a visit.
 A club, at the request of another Lion’s club, who sends a member to work as SAHMSU screeners or
technicians will earn 10 points plus the mileage factor.
 Official visits will not be accepted as Visitations. Any Lion, Lioness, or Leo who presents a program at
another club is considered to be making an official visit.
A Governor’s Award will be presented to the Lion, Lioness, or Leo club in each Class category, who attains the
most Club visits and or point totals in accordance with these Rules.
Remember: If you visit a joint meeting of 2 or more clubs, it can only be counted as one visit to one of those
clubs if you have not visited them previously.

Centennial Service Challenge
By Mary Schwab
Most people want to help make our world a better place to live. Protecting our environment is
one way to do that. Recognizing the importance of this, Lions International has included the
environment as one of the four campaigns of the Centennial Service Challenge (CSC). The goal is
to serve 25 million people through each of the four campaigns. Each club that completes an
environmental project during any year of the CSC will earn an award patch. The look of the award
depends upon the number of CSC Campaigns reported. If a club completes all four campaigns in a
year, they will receive a diamond award. Clubs that receive the diamond award for three or four
of the CSC will receive a special pin for each member of their club that is active as of June 30,
2018. LCI has a list of environmental project ideas on their website. The projects are varied and
can be tailored for any club. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve our world and receive
both club and personal recognition.
