Keep the Love alive. Man am I fed up with all this snow. Enough Already!!!!!! Talk about flooding this spring, it's going to be rough. Welcome to 2008, another year is here and this is going to be a good year for driving the "Vette". Our events committee of Pat & Diana, and Kelly & Jackie have lots of good things coming. That's what a car club is all about, driving our cars. Each month we are going to have "club" sponsored events in addition to non-club events. (Events put on by other clubs we attend) a club sponsored "Dinner Run" and a club "Run of the Month". We will start in April and end in October, weather permitting. Plan on a big Labor Day weekend in September, more details later. Things we need to address now are our 50th anniversary plaque for the National Corvette Museum, and a 50th anniversary party for the club. In short I need volunteers. Please step up and help us all out; I know you can do it. As always, I am open to suggestions that benefit the club. Dick and Joy left me with huge shoes to fill, I hope I can meet your expectations. Everything I have read on the upcoming 2009 ZR1 is awesome. Talk about a racecar for the street. It makes the previous "Z" look like it's still in Kindergarten. Expect dealers to ask $150,000, or more initially for the privilege of owning one. Only 2000 units per year will be made. Should be a-hell-of-a-car. Well, till next month, "Save the Wave" Chuck Volume 50 Issue 2 2008 In 1991, 4,305 of the 14,967 Coupes sold had the #10 White exterior color code. Corvette Black Book Gary & Carolyn Rust purchased their car on August 8, 2006 at 8 PM on EBay. Carolyn called her boss and told him she wouldn’t be a work the next morning. They caught a 7 AM flight to Seattle the next day and was picked up by the owner and driven to Marysville, WA. The car had 39,000 miles on it and was in excellent shape. They went to the DMV, bank and then drove it home. It is stock except for a Pioneer DVD multimedia AV navigation system they had installed. They call it their sporty economy car because it gets better gas mileage than their 2007 Camry. There were 48 members and guests present. Barb Beck gave a Treasurer’s report. The club had a beginning balance of $3,923.93, income of $1,682.92, expenses of $820.97 leaving us with a balance of $4,785.88 Minutes from January: Motion to approve by Bryon McLean & seconded by John Wiener OLD BUSINESS: Corvette Lover’s Cruise Christmas Party—65 members & guests attended - Casino asked if our group could be moved to a smaller room as the needed the larger room for another function. When asked how many the room would hold, we were told 65 but they could make room for more if needed. It was not known until we arrived at the Casino that the “room” was actually the bar area across from the buffet. There was no one to blame in the club as we were going on what we were told by the Casino. It will not happen again and we want to thank Denise again for the great job in organizing the Christmas Party. There was no way for her to know that to the Casino, a room was not defined as having walls around it. Elections voted with the following results: President - Chuck Adams Vice President - Mike DeFreese Secretary - Bob Crabb Treasurer - Barb Beck Barb will be cutting back on the stocked clothing. She will still do a special order for you from Brunetts Continued on page 3 Volume 50 Issue 2 2008 Continued from page 2 NEW BUSINESS: Events Committee: Kelly & Jackie Brown, Pat Railey & Dianna VanHook 50th Anniversary Committee: Kelly & Jackie Brown, Arlyn & Pat Thurber, Jim & Patty McVey and Bill & Katherine Moore Glass on Grass Committee: Mike & Denise Defreese, Randy & Linda Rumiser, Kelly & Jackie Brown, Roger & Joyce Bippes and Kevin & Mae Johnson. Following the drawings, the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM Respectfully submitted by Lori Adams and Pat Thurber ( Bob was off to the races in Daytona) Volume 50 Issue 2 2008 CORVETTE LOVERS CRUISE There were 12 Spokane Corvette Club members on the cruise as well as Bob’s niece and her husband. A great time was had by all even though some of the weather made part of the trip a bit rough. Some had a rougher trip than others. Wonder what Pat did to irritate the Pirate? “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum” or would that have been a case? Corvette Lovers from all over the country AARGHH!! Tag Team Massage? OR Shampoo anyone? That’s not Kelly It’s a clone. He doesn’t wear shorts. According to him, he doesn’t read either. The question asked “Is He Still Alive?” Volume 50 Issue 2 2008 ON SALE IN OCTOBER 2008 We’ve all been waiting and now they are coming. The car previously known as the “Blue Devil” will be getting the ZR1 badge. No official numbers yet but it should go from 0 to 60 in less than 3.5 seconds, with over 600 horse. There will be a polycarbonate window in the hood to showcase the engine along with other changes including more visible carbon fiber. But don’t worry, these panels won’t yellow or crack over time. A secret elixir, a pricey $60,000 per gallon, will be added to the clear coat to block the harmful ultraviolet rays. More good news, this baby will come with Michelin’s Pilot Sport 2 ZP (run-flat) tires. It will be the first Corvette with a gas guzzler tax, but with all that giddy-up and go, is it any surprise. They will only be producing 2000 each year, through the rest of the C-6 production years (about 4 more years), so get in line now if you want one. Of course the more than $100,000.00 price tag could be a deterrent for some of us. Lets see, sell Corvettes (‘68, ‘82 and ‘03 Z06), Harley, car, truck, dog, maybe that will be enough for a down payment... “Hey Jim, can we do a 30 year fixed on a ZR1.” ZR1 info from Automobile Magazine February 2008 and Autoweek December 24, 2007 Photo courtesy of chevy.com Members may submit business cards for use on the website and in the newsletter by sending them to the club at Spokane Corvette Club P.O. CHRONOLOGY 1954: Corvette production moved to a renovated facility in St. Louis, Missouri, where production started in December 1953. Chevrolet had projected annual sales of 10,000, but this was optimistic as 3,540 1954 Corvettes were built and nearly a third were unsold at year’s end. A mid-year camshaft change increased the six-cylinder engine’s horsepower to 155; all 1954’s continued with Powerglide automatics. A beige interior and at least three new exterior colors, blue, red and black, were added. Few 1954 models saw race action, but Tom Benevides did drive a modified Corvette to a C-modified secondplace finish in the SCCA event at March Air Force Base in California Sponsored by Camp Chevrolet Cadillac A Lithia Store—Spokane WA WWW.CAMPCHEVROLET.COM 509-456-7890 Jim Driggers, Corvette Manager The Spokane Corvette Club Newsletter is published monthly for members of the Club.
