The Detroit Symphony Orchestra`s Civic Youth Ensembles` goal is to
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles’ goal is to have music education programs for all ages that instruct and inspire current and future musicians and audiences. ENGAGEMENT We engage the community through music education programs that provide exposure, training and advocacy. BRIDGE BUILDER We know that knowledge and understanding of music connects all cultures and generations. CHALLENGE We seek to inspire and develop imagination while challenging participants to achieve their full musical potential. OPPORTUNITIES We provide opportunities for musical development for people of all ages, economic status, and skill levels. Approximately 700 students participate in the Civic Youth Ensembles in a variety of musical settings including orchestras, jazz ensembles and chamber music. Participants receive coaching by DSO musicians and have the opportunity to work with guest artists performing at the DSO. We are committed to teaching the smallest of hands to play the biggest of movements. Your Voice is an Instrument of Music Advocacy Research overwhelmingly demonstrates the positive effects of music education. It dramatically enhances children’s abstract reasoning skills necessary for learning math and science and improves long-term spatial temporal reasoning leading to consistently higher scores on the SAT test. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is passionate about and dedicated to making our program accessible to any and all students who wish to pursue the study of music. Our DSO Education Programs are only sustainable thanks to the dedication of donors like you. You make the music possible. continued on other side The Motown Musical Mentor program offers donors a unique opportunity to underwrite the cost of a student’s annual tuition. A donor takes financial responsibility for 1 student for 1 year, and personally invests in the musical future of an entire orchestra. By becoming a Motown Musical Mentor you will support a community striving for artistic excellence, illustrate your commitment to music education, and advocate on behalf of a child’s dream. As a Motown Musical Mentor you provide the following for an aspiring young musician: ➢ High quality music instruction for one year (September – May) ➢ Exposure to world-class artists ➢ Rehearsals and performances in unparalleled facilities ➢ Access to DSO performances Great Expectations! As a Motown Musical Mentor, you become more than a donor; you become an advocate for the arts on behalf of children. Our program is profoundly personal for both the donor and the Civic Youth Ensemble student. Come to the DSO and witness firsthand the impact of your gift. Twice annually, the Civic Youth Program will present Motown Musical Mentor Appreciation Concerts. Listen to the full value of your collaboration and support!
