DISCOVER WHAT THE EYE CANʻT SEE greateyes Product Information LumiSolarOutdoor System Electroluminescence (EL) Inspection of Solar Modules directly on-site The award-winning1) greateyes LumiSolarOutdoor system allows to investigate the quality of solar modules directly on-site by utilising the electroluminescence (EL) phenomenon. Defects will clearly show up and can therefore be identified quickly. As a highlight of this innovative greateyes product, EL tests can be performed with the modules still being mounted to their substructure. In contrast to other systems the LumiSolarOutdoor system does not require a dark box or enclosure. Measurements have to be made at twilight or overnight. It is the first system which is capable of performing measurements in the open air. That saves cost and time as the modules can stay in its place. Moreover damages due to assembly work and/or transport are prevented. left image: solar module mounted on a tracker right image: EL image of the same solar module, still mounted There are two versions of the system available. A battery-powered equipment allows to measure single solar modules without the need of an external power source. If threephase electric power is accessible at the facility, a complete string of solar modules can be measured in a stepwise procedure using the mains-operated version of the LumiSolarOutdoor system. 1) The LumiSolarOutdoor system has been awarded with the 3rd prize - Innovation Award 2012 at the prestigious Bad Staffelstein Photovoltaics Symposium. greateyes GmbH • LumiSolarOutdoor Information • copyright © 2006-2014 • info@greateyes.de • V06/2014 1 DISCOVER WHAT THE EYE CANʻT SEE greateyes Inspection Capabilities • • • • • • • • Micro-Crack Identification Shunt Detection Potential Induced Degradation (PID) Finger Defects Dead Cells Broken Cells Hotspots (partially) Inhomogeneities and Impurities Areas of Application • • • • • • • • Direct Inspection of Solar Modules at the PV Power Plant Inspection of Rooftop PV Installations Incoming Goods Inspection Failure Analysis of the PV Power Plant Pre-delivery Inspection at the Manufacturer or Trading Company Final Inspection before Installation Documentation Purposes Acceptance Tests System's Benefits • • • • • • • No need to demount the Solar Module (save time/cost) Direct outdoor Measurements possible Excellent Sensitivity and Image Quality Quick Measurements (~2sec for c-Si Solar Modules) No dark Box or Cover needed Mobile Solution, no Transport Vehicles needed Battery based System allows independent Operation Successfully tested on various Solar Cell/ Module Types • • • • • • • Monocrystalline Silicon (mono-Si) Polycrystalline Silicon (poly-Si) Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) Copper Indium Sulfide (CIS) Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin Layer (HIT) greateyes GmbH • LumiSolarOutdoor Information • copyright © 2006-2014 • info@greateyes.de • V06/2014 2 DISCOVER WHAT THE EYE CANʻT SEE greateyes Battery-powered LumiSolarOutdoor System The battery based version of the LumiSolarOutdoor system does not need any external power source. A powerful battery generates the electricity for both, camera and the solar module being measured. It is possible to apply up to 100V and 7.5A to the module. In a step-wise procedure the operator will still take an image of each module individually in order to increase image quality and resolution. The 10kW power supply of the line-powered version needs to be fed by 32A-three-phase electric power. In order to obtain perfect image quality when working outside in the field it is essential to keep disturbing influences like wind, ambient radiation, etc. to a minimum. Short exposures are key here. This is realised by big pixel sizes, a backilluminted sensor with NIR coating (→ high quantum efficiency), high-end lenses, and state of the art low noise electronics. Two camera models are available – a one megapixel solution respectively a 4 magapixel solution. It is furthermore used to capture and visualise electroluminescence images. Additionally, intensity profiles of the 16 bit high dynamic range image data can be displayed. Besides some image manipulation functions the software also offers image and data analysis features. Some of the main software functions are listed below.
