Each session is held live in our College, and video-linked to centres around the UK and overseas. For the most current list of available video-link centres, please visit our website. Course Information: Over the course of the 5 evening sessions, each of the PACES stations will be looked at in detail, with each evening representing one PACES station, as follows: Station 1: Respiratory and Abdominal Systems Station 2: History Taking Station 3: Cardiovascular and Central Nervous Systems Station 4: Communications and Ethics Station 5: Brief Clinical Consultations Each evening includes an introduction to the station, examiner calibration and a live run through of the station as you would see it in the exam (including real examiners, patients and candidates), as well as plenty of time for questions and discussion. Station 4 also includes a session with the Director of Medical Examinations and Assessment for the College. Each session begins at 18:15, and runs to around 19:30 (depending on discussions). Course Aims: • Explain the skills-based marking scheme used in PACES, and how to score well in all skills. • Allow you to watch examiner calibration, understand how it works and what it means for you in the exam. • Provide tips on the best examination techniques, and what should be avoided. • Show you how best to use your time when examining patients/surrogate patients. • Demonstrate the best approach to examiner questioning. • Present the common issues seen by examiners that are fed back to candidates. • Provide an informal environment, allowing you to ask questions of our facilitators and examiners, to clarify and respond to any issues you may have about the exam.
