Enjoy the sun in a deck chair or rock yourself to
sleep in a hammock under the trees. Enjoy sunny
beverages and delicious food together with your
friends then challenge them to a round of petanque.
Children have enough room to hide between the
trees or enjoy themselves in the playground. If
you desire a quiet moment, grab a book from
our ZOMERBIBLIOTHEEK.
The ZOMERBAR is located on the Sloepenweg
near the bend in the Scheldt River. The lights of
the port twinkle in the distance. It doesn’t get
more romantic than this.

books for little ones. Piles of lovely, funny and exciting

will find beautiful childhood memories.
Would you rather listen to a story? Every day a storyteller takes you to a different world. If you prefer arts

The most magnificent amusement institute, HET

spectacle devices. It will be something with canaries,
a motorised rickshaw, a bunch of trained flees and a
canon. HET KABINET works in the ZOMERBAR all
summer long building, training and presenting their
progress.

YOYOGI
KOEN DE PRETER
Dancing and jamming in the park
Hundreds of people gather in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo every Sunday. They play music together, dance, perform acts
and small shows. Choreographer Koen De Preter hosts
an Antwerp version of this initiative and invites you to
visit the Rivierenhof Park every Sunday.
Get out of your rehearsal studio! Grab your guitar,
saxophone, violin or ghetto blaster and perform the
concert of your life. Show off your coolest moves on
the open podium in the grass.
You don’t like to grab centre stage? Participate in numerous free workshops: dancing games, martial arts,
rope-skipping, tai chi, etc. If you always wanted to
dance with a professional choreographer, this is your
chance. Dancers in different styles will teach you the
tricks of the trade.
We provide impressive dance interventions from Antwerp choreographers. There are also mini concerts,
sing-along sessions and so much more.
Your are always welcome to lay down a picnic blanket, play a round of badminton or whatever else you
can come up with.

TIMECIRCUS & MADAM FORTUNA
Wonderland
TIMECIRCUS has built a labyrinth in the middle of the
city. HET LABYRINT is based on a rubbish dump. Discarded objects like furniture, wrecked cars, plastic bottles, Barbie dolls and microwave ovens form the building
blocks of HET LABYRINT.
A pile of unused and used up things are recycled into an
enormous labyrinth full of wonders.
You can get lost in the labyrinth for free during the day.
In the evening MADAM FORTUNA performs HET
LABYRINT VAN DR. ADAMS in the labyrinth. You can
find more information about this show on p. 12 on the
other side of this brochure.
You walk around HET LABYRINT in open air. Be sure
to dress warmly or bring a raincoat if necessary.

TAMARA CUBAS
60 dancers in Den Bell
MULTITUD is a powerful dance performance that takes
your breath away. Sixty performers attract and repel each
other. They become entwined or run away from each
other. It is a dance full of emotion: sometimes grand and
elusive, other times intimate and recognisable, but always
direct and in your face.
TAMARA CUBAS travels around the world with
MULTITUD and selects local performers for the shows.
This time she chose 60 people who live in and around
Antwerp. They all have a different background and are
different ages.
These dancers become a very tight-knit group. Their connection with others is dissected and elucidated in every
possible way. You witness the power and wilfulness of
the dancers from nearby.
MULTITUD takes place outdoors. Don’t forget to bring
a warm sweater or raincoat if the weather requires it.

WUNDERBAUM
A hilarious road show
WE DOEN HET WEL ZELF is spectacular music theatre about the end of the welfare state and the rise of
the participation society. The government slowly withdraws as a caretaker and leaves more and more up to
its citizens; they must do things themselves.
Offering asylum seekers shelter. Helping the police to
keep an eye on things. Playing games and pouring coffee in a home for the elderly. We choose what we want
to do and can do. We expect less and less from the
government.
WE DOEN HET WEL ZELF is a slightly chaotic and
very hilarious show full of live music in which you
determine the order of the scenes.
For this show, WUNDERBAUM looked for Antwerp
residents who do things themselves. They are given a
spot on stage. This is an open-air show. You watch the
spectacle while sitting on bleachers.
The show is not suitable for small children. Bring a
raincoat or warm sweater if the weather requires it.

MUZIEK IN DE WIJK
The most beautiful show in the city
Music and parties on squares around Antwerp
Does all that beauty make you a little hungry? Use our
grill. You only need to bring charcoal and something
delicious to eat.
Expect a mix of local celebrities and international
names. Every MUZIEK IN DE WIJK is different.
You can often sample tasty dishes at food stands.
Sometimes there is a flea market, circus animation
or an after party. You can find all the details on
the website or in the MUZIEK IN DE WIJK folders.
There is a separate folder per square.
When the sun touches the water of the Scheldt River after a warm day, the city is briefly a different colour. You
have a fantastic view of this lovely show on our wooden
bleachers. Incredibly beautiful: a different show every
day.
The moment when the sun will set is listed in the calendar. Don’t forget to arrive half an hour earlier because
the spectacle starts at twilight.
MUZIEK IN DE WIJK comes to you and throws
a party on the square around the corner. Everyone
can participate. It is a great opportunity to ask that
special woman or man to dance, or to chat with
neighbours that you have never met.

July 6 - 10 - BAMBA WASSOULOU GROOVE
Blues from Mali
The Super Djata Band was one of the most popular
bands in Mali in the seventies and eighties. Their mix of
African grooves with blues and Jimi Hendrix-like rock
got everyone on the dance floor. Co-founder Bamba
Dembele is back with Bamba Wassoulou Groove. These
seven men have resurrected old African psychedelia.
July 13 - 17 - LA FANFARRIA DEL CAPITÁN
Catchy brass band from Argentina
They are from Buenos Aires but this crazy brass band
has more to offer than just tango. They play rock, Latin,
Balkan, ska and some reggae with masses of energy and
have lots of fun doing it! They look like actors in a Pirates
of the Caribbean sequel, with Capitán Tifus at the helm.
Contagiously festive!

a DIY attitude that creates a very special sound and
brings them to the biggest music festivals.
July 27 - 31 - KING DALTON
Hip Belgian funk
Blues, jazz and folk are combined with African avantgarde. The sound is raw and funky. It’s danceable and exorcising. King Dalton has a sound of its own that cannot
be categorised. It’s wonderfully fresh yet familiar enough
to get stuck in your head.

Catchy Colombian rhythms
Descendants of run away slaves live along the western coastline of Colombia. They have their own culture and music. Rancho Aparte is one of the most
popular party and carnival groups from the region.
They play their own version of polka and quadrille
music with incredible percussion and invigorating
wind instruments.
August 10 - 14 - RIBAB FUSION
Moroccan seventies funk
© Malik Choukrane
Highly-spirited Berber funk influenced by southern Moroccan sounds from the seventies. The ribab is a traditional violin that only has one string but is able to keep
everything together. You can expect quick percussion, a
jazzy sax, hypnotising vocals and a ribab that you won’t
forget.
August 17 - 21 - MOKOOMBA
Wonderful Zimbabwean grooves
An exciting hodgepodge of Latin, soukous, reggae and
other influences make Mokoomba a band worth following. They are called the future of afro-fusion and have
performed at dozens of festivals all over the world. They
will be in your neighbourhood this summer!
