Hall of Fame Hall of Fame Photos by Sean Cridland www.visionsofpower.com For Jim Hall, with thanks Hall of Fame 5.27. 2012 Midland, Texas As an automotive designer over the last 40 years, my inspiration has come from many different sources, including product design, fashion design, new technology and sociological influences. I have also drawn great inspiration from every Chaparral that was built, and have been a student of their many advances. What inspires me most about the Chaparral cars is the American spirit of innovation they represent, the intrigue and mystery that surrounds their development, and the great Chevrolet V8 engines at their heart. Many designers are drawn to the Chaparral 2H because of its elegant proportions, innovative aero solutions, creative window graphics, and distinctive profile with one continuous sweeping line from the tip of the nose to the edge of its tail. It has always been my assumption that the shape of the 2H body was created by Bill Mitchell’s designers and sculptors. In fact, I’ve attributed the car’s sophisticated shapes and forms well ahead of the styling trends of their day to them. It wasn’t until recently, during the delightful weekend I spent with you and Sandy in Midland, that I learned the credit actually belongs with both of you! You are the team that created those unique and well executed shapes, some of which can only be appreciated fully when you are close to the car. What a magnificent vehicle. Thank you, Ed
