Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad VOL-I ISSUE-I Jan-March, 2010 Memorandum of Understanding: Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College has achieved yet another unique distinction of being the first institution in U.P. to have received approval from Dept. of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, for establishment of Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in the field of Industrial Automation & Robotics under the mission REACH of TIFAC. For effective implementation of the project, a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ was signed by Dr. R.K. Agarwal, Director, AKGEC and Mr. B.K. Raichandani, Registrar, TIFAC. The MOU was signed during Inaugural session of TCM-2009 at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore on 22nd December 2009 in the presence of Dr.R.Chidambaram, Principal Scientific advisor to the Govt. of India and Prof. P.V.Inderesan, Former Director, IITChennai. Certificate Training Program: Skill development through training on advance technology areas is one of the important objectives of TIFAC-CORE. Towards this, TIFAC-CORE (A&R) has already started a 50 Hrs duration short term training program (evening batch) from 8th March 2010. The program for B.Tech students is in the fast and emerging field of Automation & Robotics Technology. The following course contents are planned to be covered during the course: Flexible Manufacturing System l PLC Fundamentals & Programming l Robot Fundamentals & Programming l SCADA Overview l Sensors & RFID l Drives l TIFAC-CORE Steering Committee: A TIFAC-CORE Steering Committee has been constituted to monitor the establishment, development and efficient functioning of TIFAC-CORE.The composition of TCSC is as follows: Ø Dr. R.K. Deptt., Member Ø Mr. Trilok Singh Khatri, Chief Accounts Officer, Member Ø Mr. Sanjay Behari Lal, Chief Procurement Officer, Member Ø Mr. Ashiv Shah, Head TIFAC-CORE, AKGEC,Member Secretary and Convener The committee had its first meeting on 22nd Feb 2010. TIFAC-CORE Lecture Series-2010 Continual Industry Interaction is one of the main driving force behind the development of TIFAC-CORE at AKGEC. The “TIFAC-CORE Lecture Series, 2010” under the theme-Automation in Manufacturing, has been started to keep our students and faculty abreast with the latest technical trends and Industry expectations. Under this initiative senior and eminent person from Industry or Academia are invited to deliver a talk to share their views and knowledge on the given theme. Mr. Naresh Kantoor, CEO, ENCON systems has delivered first lecture on 23rd March 2010. Guest Lecture: Following Guest Lectures were organized at TIFAC-CORE: l Mr. Kamlesh Singh, Asst Manager, Volksvagon Ltd. delivered a lecture on “Industrial Robotics” on 1st March 2010. l Mr. Sheraz Ahmad, Vortex Automation delivered a talk on “Programmable logic Controllers” on 25th March 2010. l Ms. Paramjeet Kaur, Asstt Prof., MAIT, New Delhi, conducted a Hands on session on “workspace software” on 1st April 2010. l Mr.Sudhanshu Kantoor, Sr. Manager, Pepperl & Fuchs Ltd..,Gurgoan delivered a lecture on “Role of Sensors in Automation” on 9th April 2010. New Initiatives: PLC Test Rig – A new PLC Test Rig has been designed & developed at Industrial Automation Laboratory of TIFAC-CORE. The test rig is equipped with Allen-Bradley make Micrologix 1400 & Micrologix 1100 PLCs. The test rig is capable of handling analog & digital inputs to facilitate students to understand PLC Controlled integrated architecture concepts from small to medium level automation projects. Digital Library Project Digital Library Project –A project to develop and build “Digital library” for TIFAC-CORE has been initiated by Mr. Vikash Kumar and Mr. Devender Singh, Faculty,TIFAC-CORE,AKGEC. This will enable faster dissemination of information and publishing it on the Internet or on CD-ROM. The Digital Library will be developed on open source Greenstone Digital Library software. Greenstone is produced by the New Zealand Digital Library Project at the University of Waikato, and developed and distributed in cooperation with UNESCO and the Human Info NGO. Resource Development and Activities: Planned Activities of TIFAC-CORE during First Quarter (Jan-March,2010) of First Year of Operation: Sr.No. Activity Status 01 Establish Administrative Setup • Department Office equipped with two telephone lines and Fax, computer with internet facility, printer and scanner has been established for smooth functioning of TIFAC-CORE • Procurement of new vehicle is under process for TIFAC-CORE activities 02 Faculty Induction • Three regular faculty from various Engineering departments have been appointed as Head,TIFAC-CORE and Scientific Officer (R & T). Eight part time faculty have also been attached for TIFAC-CORE activities. 03 Appoint Support staff • One Full time Project Engineer and Office Assistant have been appointed 04 Setup TIFAC-CORE Website • Domain Name has been registered as www.tifac-coreakgec.org. and website development work is under process. 05 MOU with TIFAC, DST, Govt. of India • Signed on 22nd Dec,2009 06 MOU with Partner Industries • Draft is being prepared 07 TIFAC CORE Steering Committee • Constituted. First meeting held on 22nd Feb,2010 08 Facility Design & Laboratory • Layout of five laboratories has be finalized in consultation with developmentrespective industry partners and development work is in full swing at existing building. • Requirement of additional 3000 sqft floor area to setup robotics laboratory, e-learning room and resource centre with office is under development at AKGEC campus. Resource Centre l The establishment of fully functional Resource centre to cater for future demand of research and training needs of TIFACCORE has been undertaken. The resource centre is presently equipped with nearly 100 titles in the field of Industrial automation & Robotics and 24 CD ROMs. l Nearly 15 titles were lent from Central library to create ready reference for faculty l The procurement of 15 New titles has been initiated by the faculty and one new magazine named “A&D” has been subscribed for the year. Training/ Workshop/Conference Attended Following Faculty Participated in Conferences, Workshops and Seminars during Jan-March, 2010: Ø Mr. Ashiv Shah, Head, TIFAC- CORE, attended one day workshop on “Virtual Lab” on 6th Feb at IIT- Delhi. Ø Mr. Mandeep singh, Scientific officer (R&T) and Ms. Vani Bhargava, Astt. Professor, attended one day workshop on “Industrial A.C Drives”on 26th Feb 2010 at Rockwell Automation (I) Pvt Ltd. Ø Mr. Ashiv Shah, Head, TIFAC- CORE, attended two day workshop on “R & D Projects under National Mission of Education through ICT of MHRD” on 16th & 17th March at IIT- Roorkee. Ø Mr. DK. Singh, Scientific Officer (R & T) attended One day workshop on “ Robotics Arc Welding”on 26th March 2010 at KUKA Robotics India Pvt Ltd. Pimpri Pune.
