Proposition 1 passed 1,689 votes to 1,187 while Proposition 2 passed barely with 1,498 for and 1,384 against. “From day one our goal was to educate voters about both propositions,” Dan Stauffer, co-chair of the Yes Matters campaign to pass the bond election. Sports Page 1B “We appreciate the community support for both bonds and community investment in our schools. The positive momentum we’ve seen will continue now in our growing school district,” Stauffer said. “It’s a change in the San Marcos CISD and our community, and validation we are moving forward and upward,” Superintendent Mark Eads said. “This will have a positive impact on our businesses and our community.” The two bond packages have a total value of $76.98 million dollars and include the following: Proposition One: $58,580,000 Major Renovations and Equity Upgrades at Existing Facilities - $24,760,000. Renovations for energy efficiency, handicap accessibility and interior, exterior and site improvements at the following campuses: • De Zavala Elementary School • Hernandez Elementary School • Mendez Elementary See SMCID, Page 2A Crowley retains spot By DAVID SHORT Staff Reporter Place 5 SMCISD Trustee John Crowley was re-elected by a vote of 325 to 256 for his opponent Michelle Hamilton. Crowley, who will now serve another three-year term, is a former administrator in the SMCISD and currently works in the Dripping Springs ISD in the nutrition program. “I’m very happy to be reelected,” Crowley said. “I worked this election hard, running a strong grass roots campaign, talking door-todoor to voters. Running during an election which also featured bond propositions made it a little more complicated, but I’m just happy to be returning to the school board and helping to move our district forward.” Fallen officers to be honored on Wednesday BIG LEAP FOR BOBCAT GRADUATES By ANITA MILLER News Editor Daily Record Photo by David Short Christopher Green, Tiffany Cinco and Matt Wood take the traditional plunge into the San Marcos River after graduation from Texas State on Saturday.
