The success of the Family Legacy promotion has had a large influence on the structure of our 2014 firearms promotion. Order your Family Legacy set before they’re all gone! The generous 1:1 match of proceeds from this promotion continues! Our 2014 firearms promotion builds on the continued success of the Family Legacy model. Participants can choose to conduct their respective fundraisers with a shotgun only or a shotgun/knife combination. Once the Foundation’s supply of shotguns is exhausted, all requests will revert to the shotgun/knife combination in which participating organizations will receive one (1) Browning Silver Sporting, limited edition 12 gauge with a compliment of 96 custom Browning fixed blade knives. Both the shotguns and knives will be available in January 2014. Please continue to visit our website for updates! The July 2013 Grant Cycle Update Grants are available to any team with a balance in their Scholastic Shooting Trust endowment account. Ideally teams will leave funds untouched in their account for a year following deposit allowing for dividend growth, at which point grants draw from dividends leaving principal to continue to grow as a source of perpetual funding. Teams can request grants of up to 5% of their endowment account balance once per year, either in January or July. The recent July grant cycle was the Foundation’s busiest to date with 164 grants submitted totaling $446,006 in allocated funds. The total funds requested during the July cycle is over 71% higher than those of the January 2014 cycle, in which $259,612 was allocated from 89 grant requests. Although teams are prohibited from using grant proceeds to purchase firearms, they may use funds for travel expenses, uniforms, ammunition, entry fees, scholarships, range fees, etc. If you have a question regarding grant proceed usage contact Mandy at the Foundation. Introducing Friends Asking Friends (FAF) Friends Asking Friends (FAF) is a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising software program which is available to teams holding endowment accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation. We will activate FAF in July 2013 at which time you will have an opportunity (free of charge) to design your own fundraising page, send/receive emails and much more. Inaugural USAYESS Youth Outdoor Experience USA Youth Education in Shooting Sports (USAYESS) recently hosted its first Youth Outdoor Experience (Y.O.E.) in the state of Washington. The hugely successful event was held at the Fort Colville Gun Club in Colville, WA. The USAYESS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization with the mission of introducing and educating youth using hands-on competitive shooting sports and wildlife /habitat conservation. The USAYESS is dedicated to establishing, supporting, and growing youth shooting programs primarily through partnerships with key conservation groups, state organizations and outdoor industry sponsors. The organization has six (6) Youth Outdoor Experience events with “Breaking Clays” clinics scheduled through November in Washington, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and California. The events are free to the general public and are intended to introduce youth from elementary through high school ages to the shooting sports, including skeet, trap, archery, .22 rifle target shooting and BB gun marksmanship. All instruction is offered by certified instructors. Initial feedback from the inaugural Washington event seems to indicate the event’s viability in growing new shooters, as over 65% of the youth in attendance had no prior firearms exposure and about 35% of the parents in attendance weren’t aware that shooting sports existed for youth. In attendance were representatives from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), the Civilian Marksmanship Program, Delta Waterfowl, Dallas Safari Club, USA Shooting, the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Whitetails Unlimited, Wild Sheep Foundation, Pheasants/Quail Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Mule Deer Foundation, Quality Deer Management Association, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. This represented a premier opportunity for sharing of best practices and capabilities as well as allowing for integration and synchronization of MidwayUSA Foundation fundraising promotions and programs across these diverse groups. New connections and relationships were formed, information was shared and all in attendance played a role in furthering the MidwayUSA Foundation mission of growing youth shooting. USA Shooting From the Executive Director (with MidwayU SA Founda tion Executive Director Dick Lee per) Attica High School at 2013 Indiana SCTP state We would be happy to feature your competition photos in future newsletters, social media and on our website. Send them to Jeff at jhmcclure@midwayusafoundation.org From time to time it is valuable, both as an organization and on a more personal level, to step back from what is often our hectic daily routine, to reflect on where we’ve been and ultimately, where we’re going. We continue to identify more and more active youth shooting teams and raise more money to support the mission of providing permanent funding for every youth shooting team in the country. At the end of June 2013 we exceeded 2700 active youth teams and $38,000,000 in endowments, which is a direct result of your efforts in your local communities. This year we will award over $700,000 in grants to 250 youth shooting teams compared to just two short years ago when we awarded $30,000 to 25 youth shooting teams. What a dramatic difference in just two years! Through the combined efforts of Foundation promotions and the support and generosity of the Potterfield Family, we are making a difference for youth shooting sports. Check the web site for current and upcoming promotions so you can continue to grow your endowment and take advantage of Potterfield Family matching money. As always, send us your input regarding how we can assist you in reaching your goals for your youth shooting team. Have an idea or suggestion for this newsletter?
